Avalonia
Dosuun, First Order Space

At one time, the bustling city of Avalonia would take Connor’s breath away. Compared to others he had visited, it was nothing but an impressive standing on the First Order who ruled with an iron first. The propaganda was flying high from tall buildings, red and black flags waved in the sky. White Stormtroopers did the rounds. Citizens and soldiers went about their daily life.

Now, it all looked so meaningless to the man that stood at the base of the capital building. His amber eyes burnt as he looked up to the heavens, watching a flag lazily flap in the breeze.

Connor knew of the struggles he had – or his former self – had faced. From meeting the girl called [member="Ara Ren"] in the plaza behind him that opened up the First Order to him, now standing there after escaping the clutches of the Galactic Alliance after capture on Skor II. It had all been the necessary steps to bring him here today.

A man who stood beyond what any of the First Order or the weakening Ren could be. Not serving a blind leader, but serving the will of the Dark Side. The natural force that had been in him since birth, now free from the shackles of the Light and the doubt that one man could put on a mind.

He owed them nothing.

They left him to the will of the Jedi in the Sullust prison and made the former Jedi face his past, accept his sin and die a free man.

Maybe he owed them something actually; thanks for letting him die.

There was another - [member="Kaalia Voldaren"] – whom he had to thank. He turned, walking across the plaza to the large park opposite. It was around here he met her first….if the memories were right…having a run, or a fight….it wasn’t clear.

It didn’t matter. Through the way into Avalonia, he had searched for her and called her name. She was on the planet. She was in the city. That was evident, and she was strong in the Force. Confident.

The Force would bring them together here. He just had to wait.

As Kaalia walked through the capitol building towards the exit after a meeting with First Order staff, it was the only reason she would visit the place anymore nowadays, she could feel it. Her facial expression shifted to show a mix of surprise, confusion and a tinge of anger. There was no doubt in her mind that none other than Connor Harrison, in Avalonia of all places, called out to her through the Force. Despite it being Connor, his presence in the Force was different. That edge of Light that had been there before was gone and he felt like a different person.The last time she had seen or heard from him was during the battle for Skor, a day she didn't very much enjoy reliving. All she knew was that he was captured that day, but it seemed he had regained his freedom. The final words she had spoken before his comm was cut off were ones she vividly remembered.

I trust in your ability, and now I choose to trust in your judgement. Don't make me regret that decision.

The redhead felt that trust was misplaced that day. She wasn't happy, and at first instinct wanted nothing but to hurt him. Yet, she wondered what brought him here, and more importantly, why it was her he sought out. It was fair to assume his days as Ren were over and she owed him nothing. Why did he risk coming here while knowing he was wanted just to see her? Immediately resorting to violence was never the answer, even as a wielder of the Dark Side it was something she very much believed in, so if he wanted to talk, he could. You better know what you're getting yourself into, she thought to herself, tempted to say it to Connor directly through the Force but deciding against it.

Kaalia stepped out into the daylight, looking around. He was here somewhere, there was no mistaking it. The Force guided her steps as she walked towards him, making her way towards the park they had met first the first time. Many things had changed since then, and for the the woman that was a good thing. She had become more powerful, established her secret Sith identity, found someone to share her everything with, and so much more. The thought lightened her mood again somewhat, realizing that in the end Skor wasn't even a personal setback. It was one for the First Order, but that didn't bother her nearly as much.

When the Sith Ren entered the park her steps were just as guided by the Force as before, and without hesitation she lessened the distance between her and Connor as she moved. Her pace didn't stutter a bit when she finally laid her eyes on him and simply walked towards him, stopping with a bit of space left between them. She stood mostly neutral, sporting a voice that was very much matter-of-factly as she spoke. "It is a surpise to see you. You are risking quite a bit coming here, yet here you are. I wish I could say it is also a pleasant surprise, but that wouldn't be entirely truthful." Her emerald green eyes pierced right through Connor's corrupt ones, but her emotions were kept to herself. At least for now. "So, why is it that you called me? I'm curious."

Connor stood by some iron railings and looked out over the park for what felt like a good ten minutes or more. He just looked at what was going on, but didn’t care for it at all. When he felt eyes on him, and a strong focused aura, he turned gradually to watch the Ren coming over. That unmistakable red hair. That scar. She certainly stood out.

She looked older, held herself higher. There was a big shift in the girl from what he had seen the first time they had met. And, to be expected, she didn’t seem best pleased he was here. But then, he hadn’t come back for warm hugs and reminiscing.

"Kaalia Voldaren. Knight of Ren. Sith warrior."

He raised his brow, looking into her mind and turning away with an unamused expression.

"He knew that the Ren were weak, and it seems you do too. Very good. And I am not here for anything except to see a face from the past and tell you that what happened at Skor was not your fault, and you did the right thing."

Connor leant forward a little.

"The Dark Side is strong in you, and I feel it bubbling away. The First Order cannot hold you back forever, Kaalia. Your destiny is more than serving a blind old preacher. Your destiny lies in serving the Force. An invincible destroyer of the Light."

Inhaling and clearing his head for a moment, he turned his head slightly towards her.

"You are one he trusted. Why did the Ren leave him with the Alliance. And why have you started to leave the Ren."

[member="Kaalia Voldaren"]

Kaalia's eyelids narrowed as Connor referred to her as Sith warrior. There were only a handful of people who knew about her status as Sith, yet he knew. She let him speak until he was finished however, the things he said adding to the things she wished to comment on. She pushed that aside for just a moment, taking her time to assess the things she did not recognize. The very way he spoke was different, one touched in a kind of Darkness previously not present within the man. The most striking thing however, was how he referred to his past self like a different person altogether. Perhaps there was truth to that, maybe he was completely different now, but only time would tell. After asking the pair of questions she stood for a moment before walking over to the railings, enjoying the slight breeze caressing her face as she stood next to him, looking out towards the greenery of the park in front of them. "Before anything," she said as she cocked her head to the side towards Connor, "How did you find out about me have any connection to the Sith whatsoever? You must understand that it is not yet meant to be public knowledge, so to say. If someone opened their mouth about this they will likely do it again and eventually leak it out to the people who aren't supposed to know, and I cannot let that happen." There was an edge of power in her voice, but was still mostly calm. "I will not allow anyone to destroy what I am building. I will take lives if I have to."

"Second of all, about Skor," the woman continued as her tone once again shifted, this time towards something more nonchalant, "you can rest easy knowing I never doubted any of my actions on Skor. I did what I was supposed to do." A shrug followed the words. "Either I would've come to your position anyway, or I did what I did and bolstered another position. The fact you sealed your own fate there wasn't preferred but I wasn't your caretaker." She let out a small chuckle as a leaf that twirled in the wind caught her eye. "Although, I doubt you gave it too much thought."

Then, a small frown. If there was one thing Kaalia fought for, then it was to be nobody's servant. Perhaps for now she didn't have that yet, but every step she took was a way forward towards her goal. "Third, the old preacher still has some pretty tricks left for me to learn. It's just too bad he's a bit... careful, about who he lets in on those things. I'm doing my time, and eventually I will get the chance to be cut loose without blowing everything to pieces. Patience is a virtue." In the end, the First Order was an ally. She looked to keep it that way if at all possible. "And the only destiny I carry is the one I shape myself. What is there to gain in serving if the master has nothing to give you in return?" The things Kaalia cared about were what was around her. Anything further than her figurative doorstep was completely irrelevant to her. "Powerful I will become, but I will not bow down to one master and only live to serve for their goals, not even the Force. If anything, I look for the opposite. The Force should serve me."

A slight pause followed as the young Knight recalled the two questions. Turning her head back towards Connor she looked at him, hands grasping the railing. "The First Order left... him," it was an odd thing to say for her, "with the Alliance because in the grand scheme of things, he was seen as a pawn. Sacrificable. The Alliance looked to play a game with you as a piece and the First Order wasn't interested in playing. Even if they would have loved to have you stand trial for your actions on Skor. They probably still do." Her tone revealed no remorse. Instead she was uncaring about the fact. "And to answer the other question, nothing has changed between me and the Ren. Perhaps you see things from a different perspective now, but I am doing what I have been doing for a good while now." Once more she looked out to the park. "I explained it to you when we met, down there. They give me what I want and in return I work with them. A business relationship that has been very profitable for both parties. Now, for how long it remains profitable remains to be seen. Still," Kaalia mentioned, "I have built things here. Simply walking out will cause it all to come crashing down. I will keep supporting the nation because I wish to keep what I have here. Whether that is as Ren or not..." She pushed herself away from the railing, taking a few steps back. "Preferrably it will be the second option eventually, but that is for the future."

Connor went to speak once, and then twice, but Kaalia was letting everything out, and so he took the lead and said nothing, did nothing, except look at her now and then and listen. He looked at the way her hair fell, and noticed the colour which was like blood. He looked at the scar down her eye which was a beautiful stamp on her history - something to embrace. He looked at her physical stance and movement when she talked about certain things.

The way her shoulders relaxed, or tensed, and her eyes dropped, her head tilted, her lips curling.

She certainly knew a lot, and had a strong view, if at times it seemed she was still clouded. When the girl stepped back, Connor followed with his head and turned, leaning back on the rail, pushing out his greatcoat.

”First. Don’t threaten me. That’s the only warning you will get. And for sensing your devotion to the Sith? It didn’t take long as it cycled in your mind about what you wanted to summon to stand taller before him, for I know he is a failure to you too. You follow what path you want. I don’t care enough now to spread idle gossip, for if they can’t even sense it or see it then they really are blind."

He kept on.

”I have seen far greater things than you, Kaalia Voldaren, and all I will say is that from my time in the galaxy inside his soul I know that you may well have the Force serving you," he pointed at her chest, ”but you will always serve the Dark Side. Remember that and you will go far. Two very different aspects. Don’t let your arrogance and quest for power blind you to that one truth as he did."

His head turned to a pair of Stormtroopers looking over at their direction. Connor didn’t hesitate to wave his hand away, and the pair straightened their backs, turned in unison, and walked away under the influence of the Dark Sider.

”The First Order will not support your….business venture…. forever. I am not degrading you or your ventures, for that is not my business, but he saw enough to know, as you have confirmed, that each one serving their leader is an expendable asset. The sooner you break your tie to those who can destroy everything you have will be the day you finally have it all. You serve the Dark Side, not the First Order and not some Leader." He stepped off the rail and took a few steps towards her. ”Don’t let the will of others dictate your future. Dictate it yourself, and cut out those who will hold you back."

With that, he walked around her to stand beside the girl facing out into the garden again and had a neutral expression on his face.

”Tell me, Kaalia, what of the girl. Ara. The one he opened his heart to and lost.”

There was a little bit of a chuckle when Connor commented on Kaalia's alleged threat, amused by the situation. "I am pretty sure I was speaking in hypotheticals. Someone may have told you, and that particular person would have had to die. If you see that as a threat to you directly, that is ultimately none of my concern. I was merely speaking the truth." In the end, she was not too impressed by the warning. "You don't seem like the type to gossip, anyway." She wasn't much concerned about the man knowing about her ties with the Sith and saw no reason to threaten him directly. When he implied it mattered little to him she believed him.

The woman let Connor say everything he wanted to say from there, feeling no other need to interrupt him until he took multiple steps towards her. He spoke as if he knew everything, but he was still just a being as everyone else, and Kaalia questioned everything. Everyone and everything. The truth was never out in the open and lies and falsehoods were everywhere. "Everyone's perpective is flawed. I question everything I hear and see and that includes everything you say. I am looking for the truth, and as it stands I do not know if you speak it. Even if you believe it to be the truth." She looked the man in the eyes directly. An inner debate on where she stood with him was ongoing, undecided on whether she saw him as an enemy or not. Time would tell. "I may die the moment I see the truths of the galaxy, but I will find it. No matter how long it takes." Kaalia was talking in the abstract, and she knew this, but in her mind it made sense. If it didn't to Connor that wasn't an issue to her.

"And, I know. That venture isn't going to last forever. For as long as it works for me however, I will continue reaping the benefits." It was all about timing. As much as most followers of the Dark side would argue that relationships and bonds made one weaker, the redhead was learning to use them to empower her even more. They were her reason to fight, to keep on moving forward. It was a powerful drive that many dismissed, but she embraced who she was and let nothing get inbetween that. The fact the people she cared about most were allied to the First Order merely meant she would be of assistance to them. Her pursuit wasn't mindless conquest, but happiness. She had no qualms about doing whatever was necessary to reach it, but they were the means to an end. "All in due time, Connor Harrison. All in due time."

When he went to stand next to Kaalia and asked her about Ara, a connection was quickly made in her mind. It was a realization she should have had made earlier, but thankfully it wasn't very much relevant until now. She stored it for the moment, but after telling him what had happened to her she would bring it out in the open. "Ara was stabbed by a lightsaber and left for dead when the Alliance launched an attack on Hoth and Bespin." There was fire building up inside of her. The brunette had miraculously survived, but in her mind it could not go unpunished. They had laid their hands on one of the people closest to her, and she would have her revenge. The anger slipped into her voice, becoming darker and vengeful. "After reviewing security footage and help from the security bureau I have a name and a face behind the one responsible. Someone I am sure you know well." The trio of Kaalia, Connor, and Ara had encountered her on Mustafar, and it was clear Connor knew her from the way he reacted to seeing her. He wanted to face her alone, which only added to her suspicion back then. Now, that person deserved to die in her eyes.

"Taeli Raaf."

Kaalia glanced sideways to gauge his reaction after speaking the name out loud. "I doubt you'd like sharing much about this woman, but understand that I wish to see her so I can return the favor." The fact Ara had survived was left out on purpose, he did not need to know. What was relevant was her anger and her wish for vengeance.

The girl was obviously following a blind cause - be it the Order, or her own. As if there was some...prize at the end of it, or some status she would achieve. There was a nonchalance to her that was part admirable, part irritating.

It sounded as if she didn't know what she was chasing, but she had to chase it and find it, for herself. There was much to her it seemed. Of course, the choice of siding with the Ren was...understandable. A group accepting those who were nothing but failures themselves, mis-guided and blind seeking a place to feel wanted, needed and in a place of power. That much he felt from the thoughts of Harrison and what he had seen.

Connor put his hands behind his back and stood listening. A few thoughts fluttered through his mind; what was her motivation? What was her vision of her future? And then she moved the topic to the girl Ara, and he glanced sideways at her recollection of what had happened. So Ara was dead, and Taeli Raaf had been the one to administer the blow. The group had met before, and there was much linking them. Connor looked back to the gardens and nodded. It was just like she had said all along. His face didn't show any emotion.

”So. She died. Taeli always said that if you were weak then death would be the only way. Seemed like she was right about your friend." He felt her anger and irrational thoughts. ”And take it from me, you thinking the way you are will not lead you vengeance, but another grave beside hers. If she really is dead at all."

He sighed.

”The killing blow doesn't always mean death. If her heart was true, then maybe the Dark Side can save her yet. If not, then you're already proving your weakness by holding a candle to her name. She failed, and she died. You didn't. So if you want to focus on revenge, then please do, it will be amusing to see and watch what happens when you think because you're angry at the loss of a friend you can know take on the world. Taeli Raaf is far stronger, wiser and deceptive than you or any of the Ren. Ara was dead before she even drew her blade."

Connor lowered his head for a second, looking at the cracks in the pavement below his feet.

”Give it time, and I am sure Taeli will be happy to see you. I will see it happen, and then you can have your say."

The girl beside him was dangerous, that much was clear, but he wasn't going to be impressed with her guile and reckoning, because he had seen and heard it all before, and he had seen the result of where it led to.

[member="Kaalia Voldaren"]

All Kaalia could do was smirk. It was obvious Connor could feel her anger, her wish to take out the one who had seen to severely wounding one of the people closest to her, and she did not mind that in the slightest. Perhaps, deep down, she even wanted him to know. It was her fuel, carefully guided to empower her. Her steps were taken with a clear goal in mind and nobody was going to get inbetween it. She wanted happiness, freedom, and the presence of the people she cared about. Perhaps the last want was seen by many as a weakness, but she didn't care. She knew who she was and nothing would change her. In fact, it had served as another source of passion. It was one that was more difficult to control, but also one that went deeper than so many other sources. The hurt that was inflicted on Ara was fuel to accomplish greater things, to become even more powerful. Eventually becoming powerful enough to take out Taeli was a palpable goal to reach.

"Perspective is an interesting thing," the redhead said after Connor finished speaking himself. "What happened, happened. Nothing I do will revert any of it. Mindless revenge is not what I seek. What happened has given me the drive to become more powerful, to eventually overshadow her. I wish to see her dead, and although that does nothing for me in the end, but the path towards getting there, that is what truly matters." There was a slight chuckle as she took a quick glance to a man passing by, jogging much in the way the man did when they first met. "As it stands, I am no match for her. I understand and accept that. For now. I will have to become stronger. I will have to become wiser. I will have to become more deceptive. Those things do not fade. That power is not just to be able to face Taeli. Call my motivation a weakness, I simply do things my own way."

There was a slight pause as she moved back to the railing, resting on it as she faced Connor. "Making an arrangement would mean it would be on her terms. I would have to walk up to her front door. I don't have to explain to you why that is a bad idea." She tapped her fingers on the railing. "I will do it on my time and when I'm ready, and that will take a while. A long while. She won't be sitting still either."

"In any case," Kaalia said after she had concluded her response, "I somehow doubt you came here just to catch up with an old friend and reminice about the past. I could be wrong, but if I'm not I would like to know." An inquisitive look was sent Connor's way. "Is there another reason you wanted to see me?"

With a slow nod, Connor took in her words. This was not his fight, but he certainly knew which side of the battle was best to be on if, and when, things escalated quickly. She had given him enough of what he needed in those few minutes.

”Very well, I am not here to talk about what happened. That is your business, and yours alone." He carried on looking out. ”The past does not concern me in the slightest. It was his past, not mine. I want to look to the future. I came here to…to understand the current state of the Knights of Ren and the First Order."

He turned his head a little towards her, still not looking directly at her.

”Yet give me some respect and don’t start talking about what I should and should not know. You yourself can’t call yourself a dedicated Ren following your current path, and I know enough to throw a spanner in the works so what I ask isn’t going to make much difference for us both on that part. I simply need to lay my foundations. To find what paths he crossed and what he laid down and why so I can either rip them up and start again, or nurture the seeds for growth."

Now, finally, he looked at the red-head.

”The next war is coming, and I know what side I stand, but I need to know what alliances I have out there. The main question is are you one of them or not."

[member="Kaalia Voldaren"]

When Connor immediately demanded the respect he felt he deserved without Kaalia even speaking, not even waiting for her response and seemingly expecting her to not answer his question, she blew a bit of air through her nose. When he turned to directly look at her she barely reacted to it, looking back almost blankly. "You were the one telling me not to threaten you before, but it seems I have to do the same. And, much like you, I don't give any more warnings than just one." Through the causal tone there was a very real tinge of seriousness. She was not impressed by him in the same way he wasn't impressed by her. "Although you are in hostile territory and are definitely aren't on the thickest of ice with me after Skor, as much as you claim to be a different person now, to immediately think I'm going to refuse telling you anything is a bit of a far-reaching assumption." The redhead was willing to show some patience, but there was a limit to the amount she could and would muster. "So, in short, don't threaten me."

Kaalia's facial expression lightened back up, if only slightly, after saying that. "Now that I've gotten that out of the way..." she tilted her head slightly while looking at Connor. "Am I an ally or not, now that's a good question. The only thing I know in answering that question is honesty, and if it were more straightforward I would've immediately said no without thinking any further. After all, you have run off before. Or the old you, as you claim." The woman was still tempted to say no, but there was still an opportunity here. "But... there's more to you being different than just your claims. You are different in the Force. Whatever happened has changed you, the edge of the Light that was once there removed." The change within him was intruiging to witness.

The young Knight mulled over the question for a moment, remaining silent while she did. After deliberation she went to speak. "War is perpetual. It doesn't end. But that is not what is relevant. I could be an ally, if it provides a benefit for me. I am sure you are not stupid, so you should understand that throwing myself into battle for someone without reason is something I will not do." Kaalia raised an eyebrow. "I will have to trust you to not walk out again, which I can do." A slight nod came from her. "I fight with you, and you fight with me. Nothing more." She wasn't looking to reconnect personally, but allies were allies.

Connor smiled, amused by her sharp way with words and how she evidently listened and processed everything.

"Trust me, I was not threatening you. I don’t believe in threats. Warnings? Yes, but threats? No. You either carry out the deed or not."

He turned back around to face her as she spoke about her feelings and thoughts. The actions Connor had taken in battle seemed to made him an un-trustworthy, almost cowardly and confused warrior. He was intrigued to see the footprints left in the sand by him.

"Kaalia Voldaren, I will not ask you fight a war for me. With me, if I need your skill and fierce power in the battlefield? Then yes. But that man you saw before on Skor is not here anymore. There will be ne running away, or moral conflict. The war is constant, and the threat ever changes. Everything changes except the Force."

With a nod, he confirmed it.

"I will fight with you if you need it against the Jedi or the ones taking the Dark Side away from us. I see you as nothing but an ally on the side of right, and one day you will see that the man you knew isn’t the man I am today." He winced. "If I was I’d rather have been burnt alive with him on Maena."

After a few moments thought, he extended his hand.

"Alliances go a long way. You have one with me."

[member="Kaalia Voldaren"]

Kaalia nodded and smiled when he spoke about warnings and threats. That was the way things were supposed to be. Empty threats were a waste of time, if something had to be done you did it. It was evidence he had truly become a different man and that was a good thing. She remained silent while he spoke, seeing no reason to interrupt. Still, what he said were things the woman could get behind. Caution would not be dropped just yet, but an alliance was something she could agree to.

As Connor winced and talked about something that seemed to have happened on Maena, a planet that sounded familiar. That was not very relevant however, but what was relevant was that whatever happened to him took place on that world. "So the old Connor Harrison died on Maena, if I understand correctly. He died in a blaze of fire. A death a coward deserves. And from the flames, you emerged." She stepped forward towards the man, looking at his extended hand before shaking it. "So an alliance we have," she said as she looked up at his face, her face completely neutral.

"I fight with you, you fight with me." She let go of his hand and took a step back. "Nothing more, nothing less. When you say you are a different man, I sense that you speak the truth. I wish to see the Connor Harrison who is not held back by the Light."

Her words amused him. Harsh, biting, honest words that he relished. More facts and dots to join about the Jedi Master.

"Connor Harrison died on Maena. When I find my identity, it will be that name you associate with his legacy – not the cowardice of his own. Do me a favour if you can? Tell those in command who fought with him that Connor Harrison didn’t leave Maena alive. There is a new force in his place now."

It was a step in the right direction and one he needed as a building block upwards. He looked around once more at the vast city that surrounded them, and he could see the desire Connor had to serve a mega-power such as the First Order.

"I wish you well, Kaalia Voldaren. I wish you well on your journey both personally and in service of the Force. Just be careful. Don’t let your heart rule you head.”

He took a step back and held up his hands with a soft smirk, the black cybernetic limb catching a ray of sun.

"And that was not a threat. Just a friendly piece of advice from one who has seen the effects of it. I will see you again."

Connor nodded a farewell, and turned to walk back through the plaza. He had said his bit, and she had hers. They had shaken, and made their stance quite clear. Nothing more could be said or done that probably didn’t need to be, but a bridge had been fixed – albeit a little shaky for the moment.

Two Stormtroopers stood and watched him walk by.There was much legacy to erase and to forge at the same time.

[member="Kaalia Voldaren"]

For a moment Kaalia wanted to retort on his wishing well in service of the Force, but decided against it. That was his viewpoint, and she had hers. It mattered little more to her than that and simply let it go, concluding she simply didn't care enough to debate it any further than they already had. Perspectives were hard to change, and she would get nothing out of it personally. The advice he then gave was one she understood completely; she took a risk with the things she did, the bonds she created. But risks had to be taken, such was the way of life. The ones who were willing to go further were the ones remembered for their deeds, and the woman aimed to do the same.

"I will tell them, do not worry. It's the least I can do. And don't worry, I did not see it as a threat. I will keep it in mind." She nodded back as Connor told her they would see each other again, to which the redhead had no doubt. "I wish you well too, Connor Harrison. Until we meet again." Watching as the man walked off she moved over to the railing and looked out, pondering over their meeting. The young Knight would head back to her transport soon, going back to the regular order of the day, but she needed some time to process everything. Big decisions had to be made soon, and she wasn't sure about the answers just yet save a small amount. There were things she would never give up, and all her other decisions were going to be meant to protect those things. A carefully played game.
