Should opposition writers have to interact in invasions?

Writers should be aware that the implication of writing a Victory Condition encouraging user interaction in Invasions mean the presiding Roleplay Judge will have free reign to determine the weight of such interaction in his decision for victory.

Meaning that yes, in a traditional Invasion, to win you must fight the opposition - and you will be judged on how much of your faction is doing it.

Edit: to further elaborate my transparent position, I am not for this suggestion solely for the implication of infringing on a writer's freedom in an Invasion. I am for encouraging writer interaction, but I am against requiring an RPJ to judge it.

I don't think people should be allowed to just walk all over a planet in an invasion doing what they want with no opposition. That said, I don't think people should be ganged up on by the opposition just because direct interaction is a part of invasions.

This whole thing is more of a matter for the administration of the factions involved than anything.

No, but the reason is because of nuance.

The question was worded with Writers having the obligation interact with the opposition in Invasions. Writers should ideally have as little obligations on this site as possible. I'm a firm believer that people on Chaos should be allowed to write the stories that they want to do within reason. Someone that wants to write their own adventures on the loneliest island in an Invasion should be free to do so.

There are consequences for this, though. Going off the Victory conditions of Invasions, the Attackers have to write a Story about taking over the planet if they wish to win the Invasion. The Defenders have to respond to the Attackers' attempts if they wish to win. This necessitates interaction in some manner - and attempts to stop the other side in any way is a form of interaction. A side that actively avoids interaction with the other Faction just can't stop the other side writing a Story that supports their victory.

So if the question is, "Should a Faction's Writers expect to interact with the other Faction's Writers in order to win an Invasion?"

My answer is yes.

Yes.

The fact that this question even needs to be asked is idiotic. Invasions are literally the only place that you should be required to interact with the opposition.

Sure you can write great solo stories in invasions, and you're welcome to them, but writing your own stories about your own characters shouldn't count for jack in taking a planet/hex/whatever. If you're invading a planet, and you want to win, the only story that should matter is the story of taking the planet itself.

That requires interaction between opponents, those who own the planets and those who are trying to take it.

If you're interested in taking a planet but dont want to interact with opposing factions, go do a dominion.

What this guy said. Duh.

Absolutely yes.

Some of the most fun I have ever had has been in invasion crafting a story around beating the crap out of that pesky Jedi. Or trying to blast away at the enemy while waiting for reinforcements that never showed up.

I think the most fun for me was Vengeance/Corvus on Balmorra. Granted they spent 95% of the time in a battle of wits without doing any real combat but it was fun, it was engaging, AND it made sense in the larger scheme of what was going on.

Along the lines of what others have said if you want to only slaughter NPCs then Dominions are a better option for you.

Yes, I believe everyone is fair game once they step into any PvP environment. Why someone would believe they could enter such a thread with any kind of immunity is beyond me. We have the option for closed/PvE threads for writers who want exert more control over plots and outcomes.

It should be noted that the post says "Engaging" that doesn't necessarily mean fighting or dueling. Even in stories like that, you should still be interacting with people on a diplomatic/counter-political level rather than everyone just doing their own little stories in the thread.

I think this is where some people get hung up. The other day I was chatting with someone who didn't want to duel another writer trying to interrupt their actions, but I told them while the opposing writer was within their rights to attempt to disrupt their activities, that it didn't mean they had to get into a fight. They could run away, crack insults, or do whatever, so long as they at least acknowledged the other writer through their actions.
