Strengths:
Well balanced - No real weaknesses
Easy to build and maintain, no exotic parts to materials
Runs on any chemical fuel
No exceptional at anything
Not highly "advanced" - Low tech compared to many top of the line fighters
Needs astromech to fly (no on board nav computer)
Not as stable as a standard X-wing design in atmosphere
The Sigma-5 Class Starfighter / ARwing is a single seat/unmanned starfighter designed by ORC to help them standardize their fighter core. Like the original X-wing line of fighters it was designed to be a utilitarian fighter, a jack of all trades but master of none.
Development began in 851 around the time of the "incursion". The ORC, wanting to move away from using older, cast off designs, began looking for a way to improve on the X-wing design used so prominently for over 800 years. It was during this time Bryce Bantam discovered a little know fighter design that gain some popularity during the first reign of the First Order or the "cold war" era. Though patterned off the X-Wing it have a few advantages that made it unique and a good match for the outback. The main feature being it's unique s-foil designed that instead of spiting into an X they sweep back from 120 degrees to a full 180 degrees. This ability gave the AR-wing amazing balance and would allow for easier storage, while sacrificing in atmosphere mobility and overall stability.
This combine with common components, and engine and power plant designed to work with any chemical fuel made it a cheap to build, easy to maintain fighter that many in the high command hoped would make it a standard going forward. Built on most member worlds it has become the standard ORC fighter.
