OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Siniteen
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins: Mileva, Milevan System
  • Average Lifespan: 100 years, with adulthood recognized at age 20, physical decline becoming noticeable at 70, and a maximum recorded age of 125 years in a natural body.
    • Some Siniteen have extended their lifespans past 125 years by using remarkable life-extension technologies, but this is true of most species.
  • Estimated Population: Scattered
  • Description: Siniteen are humanoids between 1.2-2 meters in height, with pale beige, pink, olive, or gray skin. They have oversized heads where their brains give the appearance of spilling out of their skulls in elongated melon to wide mushroom-shaped masses, covered only by skin. This is a somewhat deceptive appearance.
  • Their eyes are often yellow or gold, and sometimes lack a discernible pupil. This is because a large yellow covered lens covers their entire eye, reflecting some of the potent yellow light from their system's sun away from the sensitive eyeballs.
  • Siniteen range from slender to robust body frames, with the variation of strength one would expect in such variation of body form. However, Siniteen necks are very strong, likely an evolutionary development to support their large, heavy heads.
  • The seemingly visible portion of their enlarged brains does indeed house a brain at least twice as large as that of most humanoids. However, much of the external portion of their braincase is a mass of cartilage and fatty tissue designed to protect and cushion the large brain within. Siniteen brains continue to grow and develop for a third of their lives, and the soft cartilaginous braincase allows it to grow with the brain within. It visually appears that the brain is very exposed and vulnerable, but the inches of cartilage and fatty tissue actually provide ample protection for the sensitive enlarged brain of the species.
  • Most Siniteen have a naturally downturned mouth and resting 'stern' expression. This is merely the default face of their people, and they can smile and laugh and be merry just like other humanoids.
  • Siniteen have small or recessed ears, often only visible as small depressions or canals on the sides of their heads.
  • Some Siniteen exhibit pronounced facial ridges at the upper cheek and brow, along with an amount of hollow concavity in the cheek itself.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I Atmosphere, Nitrogen-Oxygen
  • Average Height of Adults: 1.75 meters
  • Average Length of Adults: NA
  • Skin color: pale beige, pink, olive, or gray skin.
  • Hair color: Hairless
  • Distinctions: The primary differentiating aspect of Siniteens from humans is their enlarged brain case, which is sometimes shaped like an engorged elongated melon, and sometimes is shaped more like the top of a mushroom, festooned with lumps and crevices that make it look like an exposed brain. This super-enlarged braincase does in fact house an enlarged brain within, with between two and three times the volume of human normal brains. One aspect of the creviced and lumpy braincase is that its increased surface area allows the Siniteen to better radiate the heat generated by their large brains. Siniteen consume about one and a half times the calories per day when compared to a human. Other than their enlarged brain case, and the strong necks which support them, Siniteen are comparable in most ways to most other humanoid species. Other distinctive distinctive appearance details include yellow protective lenses over their eyes that reflect some of the light of their intense native yellow sun, giving them poor night-vision and excellent vision on brightly lit worlds. They also have naturally downturned lips, small or recessed ears, and slightly thicker than normal skin.
  • Races: Northern Siniteen and Southern Siniteen developed in relative isolation for much of their history, with Northern Siniteen tending to have more 'engorged and elongated melon' shaped heads and the Southern Siniteen trending towards more 'Enlarged Mushroom Cap' heads, although the actual function of the brains within these heads is not distinct in either instance.
  • Force Sensitivity: Low
Strengths:
  • High intellectual capacity, with the ability to make highly complex mathematical calculations without a computer, including the ability to mentally figure hyperspace jumps without a nav computer's assistance.
  • A trend towards photographic memory among the majority of the population.
  • Eyes have a natural protective yellow lens that gives them better vision in bright environments.
  • Strong necks are difficult to garrot or choke.
  • Siniteen have thicker skin than average, making them slightly more resistant than other humanoids to cuts, abrasions, and pricks. This is not enough to mitigate weapon injuries, but can mitigate the bumps, scrapes, and cuts associated with environmental factors.
Weaknesses:
  • Eyes have a natural protective yellow lens that gives them poorer vision in dark environments, often needing artificial illumination to see in dark conditions.
  • Heads are larger and heavier than most other humanoids, making it easier to trip them in combat due to their top-heavy nature.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivores, with a preference for sea foods like fish, crab, kelp, sea-cucumbers, and algae, due to the large oceanic topography of their world.
  • Communication: Siniteen native language is Siniteen, with specific dialects of Northern and Southern that can generally understand each other. They can also speak many other languages and Galactic Standard.
  • Technology level: Their technology level is largely Galactic Standard due to importing so much of their technology rather than relying on native industry. However, their understanding of the sciences is at a higher level than the Galactic Average due to their cultural emphasis on research. This results in them having a high tech level of understanding but a typical tech lifestyle.
  • Religion/Beliefs: Mostly atheistic now, the Siniteen used to hold to a mother goddess belief, and their homeworld and system name is an allusion to their mother goddess, Mileva. Few Siniteen hold such beliefs today, but some still enjoy ruminating on the old beliefs for nostalgic reasons, and some allusions to the old religion persist in modern Siniteen speech. "By the Mother," remains a popular exclamation of surprise or dismay.
  • General behavior: Siniteen come from a culture that values intellectualism above all other pursuits, and they believe (with some justification) that they are among the smartest of humanoid species in the galaxy. This has given them an attitude of intellectual superiority which can rub other species the wrong way. Siniteen are expected to desire intellectual pursuits, and those who do not follow this cultural directive are politely (and also somewhat impolitely) encouraged to find their fortunes and fates in the wider galaxy. Most Siniteen encountered in the galaxy are from this politely ejected diaspora, and have more tolerant beliefs due to their own status as misfits and their exposure to a diverse group of other sentients.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Siniteen hail from the Mileva (also known as Milevan) system, from a world also called Mileva. They evolved from a type of arboreal ape on the world, which evolved for greater intelligence over time. In this way, their evolutionary history mirrors that of human beings. However, their evolution towards greater intelligence proceeded, with their heads becoming bulbous masses to accommodate and protect their enlarged brains.

Siniteen dominated the predators of their environment using their superior intellect. The name of their world, Mileva, and the name of the system's star, also Mileva, refer to an ancient mother-God believed to have birthed all life. The native Siniteen eventually developed high technology and a space program, which allowed them to colonize both of their moons before they first interacted with other members of the galactic community about 5200 BBY.

The native Siniteen soon realized that their intellectual capacity exceeded the galactic norm, and gradually converted their system's economy with an eye towards leveraging their intellect for the benefit of clients. By 5000 BBY, their world had been converted to a Geniocracy filled with centers of learning and advanced research institutions. Siniteen who fell below the intellectual average, or had personalities of nonconformity, were encouraged to seek their fortunes outside of the Milevan system.

There is a phenomenon of some modern Milevans becoming restless, due to the fact that their modern culture does not have a place for many pursuits beyond the intellectual. Once, the Siniteen population was as diverse in purpose as the sapients on any other world. Nowadays, an ancestral and evolutionarily derived need to perform physical labor, creative expression, and even hunting, military and security work is unfulfilled. Rather than cater to these needs, the Milevan government will actually pay for the travel tickets of non-citizen residents who wish to travel out of system. This has created a diaspora of Siniteen persons throughout the galaxy, who take jobs in all manner of industries. Siniteen have worked as remarkable artists, engineers, menial laborers, mercenaries, and military personnel.

Only those Siniteen who travel out of system truly have a chance to understand the equality of beings, for they have seen the value of things beyond the raw brainpower a brain case can contain. In their own way, these Siniteen include the most accomplished of their species, even if not recognized as such by the Milevan government of the Siniteen people.

I love what you are doing with the canon species and planet here!

There is one thing I am going to have you edit. Since you did submit the planet of origin go ahead and use that for origin and edit out the canon. You link it under links in the OOC section so that will be fine for me.

Just tag me when that is done.

Thanks!
