Sinner's Despair and New Beginnings

OOC: Can't keep up with Nether, this is open to anyone who has a slower posting speed like me in addition to those tagged, below :)

IC:

Head throbbed. Gray-blue eyes fluttered open beneath glass lenses. The slicer blinked. The world was upside down.

"Wha," voice trailed off. A pen fell from her pocket and floated upwards. "Wait." Nope, she was hanging upside down and the world was upside right. Feet were wedged beneath a jammed seat of a speeder and she dangled from the passenger door. The speeder had clearly crashed but it looked as if it had crashed long ago.

In a 16-foot tree.

But what was more disturbing was what she felt, or didn't feel. Broken memories and whole names churned in her sandy-haired head. And a set of magma-orbs decorated her inner lids between blinks.

Alderaan. Had begun there, the shetstorm that made everything so much more complicated. I was perched on a rooftop, picking off Sithspawn and vongified nasties from my nest when something crashed into me. I found myself flying, then falling and eventually I woke up...somewhere else, moment my eyes opened I felt a rage uncurl inside of me. Something I had never felt before, it consumed me and I blacked out, next thing I know... I stood bowed over a girl, couldn't have been more than seventeen, maybe eighteen. Cut throat, bloody knife in my hand. My work. I couldn't remember it, but it was all clear to me what I had done.

Left the blade there, grabbed my gear and started running as fast as I could from there and deeper into hell. I have no idea how long I have been here now, days, weeks, months, hours? But I belong here, after what I had done? Yeah, this was the place to be for me.

I scouted out the nearby area, saw some kind of speeder, girl inside of it. She seemed.. strange, very post-vintage hip. Huh. Didn't approach though, the sheet I have seen here? Well, you become slightly on edge.

Her gangly-form still dangled from that speeder in the tree. Arms flailed as she tried to swing herself up at the waist. Movement below caught her attention.

"Hey. Heeeeeey!" She hollered from above to the brooding type of man. "A little less stare and a little more help. Do I....do I know you? My mind seems to be a bit jumbled. I mean, not that I'm rambling. I just want to clarify that I don't find myself hanging upside down from a speeder most days. At least, not that I remember. Have you seen someone named Qun around? I think we were friends but I can't remember..."

A nervous giggle erupted from her throat as she clamped her lips closed.

Oh data circuits, she was rambling.

"Think you can help a girl out? If you don't, fine. But don't take my pen," the one that fell from earlier. "That's my favorite."

Raised eyebrows everywhere. Any thoughts on traps were washed away when she started talking, there was almost no way she would be part of some sort of scheme. Too... rambly in a genuine non hold up. Didn't I know this girl, couldn't put my finger on it, but there was somet- she looks just like her. Something crumbled within myself and I wanted to turn around, not look back and just move o.

Didn't do that though, I failed her once, I wouldn't fail her (I knew this was a different person, but... ya know.) twice. So I approached her location cautiously, wasn't sure how to help her though. Too far up to reach her without something to stand on, looked around for a bit, until I finally settled on plan two.

Climb into the damn tree.

'Hang on, retrogram.' Heh, still got it.

Wasn't long before I was up top, started looking for ways to get her out. Halted in the middle though.

'Erm... hi. Khaleel. At your service.' Awkward. Quickly started to untie her, one hand around her waist, legs wrapped around the branch. Let's just hope none of us fall, would be even more awkward.

Retrogram?

"Okay Mister Smoothhhhhie," she quipped back more bold than usual. She blamed the blood rushing to her head. The word smoothie triggered the word fruit. Then chocolate. Then a voice she couldn't quite remember. Odd.

"Spark. Spark Finn," she squeaked as his arm wrapped around her waist. She hitched herself up so she wasn't so upside-downy, thin arm wrapping around his broader shoulders, her back pushing against one side of his chest.

Color crept into her pale cheeks.

"Okay, I think I can just twist...yup, just let me," she grunted and pulled her converse-clad feet free. The pull was more of a jolt. As she pulled free she felt herself tipping back against Smoothie with enough force to knock them both off the branch. A yelping squeak left her throat as they began to fall.

Yup, things were about to get extremely awkward.

And this is why I prefer not to climb trees.

Found myself falling, white paladin mode settled in and I wrapped myself around the girl. Best as I could I would try and cushion the blow she would receive at impact, didn’t even consider the awkward-factor this time.

The scruffy side of my cheek brushing past her neck, the- okay, I think we got just about enough outta that. Point was, awkward.

Felt like an age, but it was probably more akin to a few half a seconds that we crashed into the ground. Her body wrecked into mine and everything rattled, but I had been through worse, far worse.

My eh.. no-no zone was slightly less comfortable at the moment, but at this point the only thing I wanted to do is lay there and just wait for death to come knocking.

Gnrgf.’ I managed to get out, before I groaned again. ‘You good, retrogue?

[member="Khaleel Malvern"]

She had him in a death-grip, knee in a place that probably wasn't the most comfortable for him. Finally, she lifted her head from the scruff of his neck. Glasses were askew on her pale-freckled face. "I," she finally untangled her limbs and realized the placement of her knee. "oh. OHohohohOH. SORRY!"

She fixed the glasses and climbed off Khaleel.

"I hope my datapads didn't crush you too bad, Smoothie," she checked her pockets and made sure they weren't broken. She offered Khaleel a hand-up as she hovered over him. "Nothing broken on my end, how about you?"

And yet she wasn't too concerned about injuries. It was as if she expected them to heal on their own. WEIRD.

Gray-blue eyes scanned the ground around them. "Oh look. There's my favorite pen!" If he had accepted her hand up, he would find the pressure suddenly released as she let go and bent over to scoop up the writing utensil. Sometimes the technopath was a bit A.D.D.

Her ‘datapads’ is that what kids call it these days?

‘I am fine, probably won’t be having children anytime soon. But marginally fine.’ I finally replied, grabbing her arm to pull myself up and crashing down again halfway there. Kept my eyes closed, feeling a migraine coming up with the speedyness of this girl.

‘So.’ I said, still hugging the dirt with my back. ‘Spark. Sassy name, btw. Very neo-vintage. What is a girl like you doing in a place like this?’

[member="Khaleel Malvern"]

"Sassy? That's a new one." She frowned down at the man. "We don't have time to nap all day." She went to tug him up, like a flower trying to move an injured nexu. "Here?"

She looked around and scratched her head.

"Where is here?" Hand went to the datapad in her pocket as if a comfort-reaction. "Funny. I expected to feel something when I touched this. But I feel like something is missing. Muted. My memories are like developing holo images. I can almost see them but not...quite. C'mon Goldylocks. What are you doing in a place like here? Makes me wonder who you really are besides an excellent tree climber and faller."

She grinned but with a hint of caution.

Like I said, I didn’t have a vistage of a clue how long I was roaming around here, gut feeling was a few months, but who really knew. Point was, I had been in a lot of places, most of ‘em… well, they weren’t savory. You read shet about hell, evil places where people get tormented, well.

I had the feeling we were in hell. Wasn’t going to tell her that, she was a little mouse, on edge, big glasses, cute. Ya ain’t gonna try and scare such a lil’ thing.

Stretched myself slowly, feeling and hearing popping sounds as bones and muscle went back to where they belong.

Man, that had been a fall.

I am surviving.’ finally said. Wasn’t going to tell her I was a… sorta Jedi, or a criminal, or a personal friend of the Chief of Security. I was just a guy, Khaleel. ‘Just a guy, miss. Nothing more, nothing less.’

A shrug.

We gotta keep moving, place like this? Never know what the feth will appear outta nowhere.’ I demonstrated the fact by turning around, grabbing my sniper rifle and slinging it over my shoulder, looked over, brushing some of those golden locks away. ‘You coming, miss glass act?

[member="Khaleel Malvern"]

"Just a guy. Carrying a heavy duty gun." Sandy-brows rose in scrutiny. "And you think I'm sassy." She gave the speeder one last look up in that tree, feeling like she was leaving something behind.

She brushed herself off and stumbled after Khaleel. She plucked a pine-needle from her hair. Then another. The landscape went from a wooded forest to the beginnings of a sea of sand dunes.

"Ah, feth," she was out of shape. The back of her hand brushed the sweat forming across her brow. "Hey, Goldylocks. Wait. Up," she was heaving and she had a flash of a memory that involved a talking tree and someone named Master Vanilla. She shook her head. "You packing any water?"

I forgot that not everyone had my stamina, that’s what ya get when you are running up and down the city dodging punks, and then becoming a Jedi in the Republic Army. Slowed down a bit and gave her some room in the walking speed, we probably weren’t in huge danger at the moment anyway.

As long as we kept on the move it would be fine, probably.

Scratched my chin and pondered, I did have some remnants of water in my satchel, but if I gave it to her? I wouldn’t have any left. Thief struggled with Jedi, before I finally sighed and nodded.

Yup.’ took it outta the bag and handed it to her. ‘So, Finnema. What’s the last thing you remember?

[member="Khaleel Malvern"]

"Thank you," she breathed and took a healthy swig, not letting the germaphobe in her come out. She was thirsty in stars knew where with some guy carrying a rifle. Germs smerms. She handed it back to her honorary guide and fanned herself with her free hand.

"I don't know," she pushed the black-rimmed glasses up the bridge of her narrow nose. "I see snippets of a lot of things. I think I was with the jedi for awhile. I know I had a friend besalisk and his name was....Qun. Then there are other things that don't make sense. Is that weird? Do you have your memories? Oh codes. Am I losing my mind? Is this from heat-stroke?!"

She faced off with Khaleel, panic widening her gray-blue orbs.

Looked into the flasket and noticed she had used all of it, the floozy. Not that I can really fault her, she didn’t really seem all that healthy, sweaty mostly and very anxious. Suppose that’s what happens when ya ain’t got no memory and suddenly wake up in hell.

Not that she knew this was hell.

Yet.

Part of me wanted to slap some sense in her, the other thought she was far too cute to be slapped in this specific scenario. So I pulled on my big boy trousers and remembered I could be a responsible person.

Turned around and faced her, put my hand on her shoulder and replied.

You are fine.’ confident. ‘All is well.’ slightly less confident. ‘You probably just hit your head or something, it will come back to ya eventually.’ raised eyebrow. ‘You good?

[member="Khaleel Malvern"]

She looked slowly down at his hand on her shoulder then back up to his gaze framed by golden-locks. "Wha...," hands came to rest on his shoulders. Fingers curled against his shirt. She pressed down tightly, keeping her balance in the sand and the heat. "NO! I am NOT fine. I haven't seen any speeders, no cities, and something I know is missing is giving me a headache. I'm tired. It's fething hot. And you're a stranger with a ginormo gun. I AM NOT FINE. YOU'RE NOT TELLING ME SOMETHING. WHAT. Is. It?"

SLAP.

A second passed.

SLAP.

Hand burned, but oh man… didn’t that feel good. Both her cheeks would burn from the queen slap just delivered by the hand of the judge, and she would now in that one specif-

Okay, too melodramatic.

Get a grip, Sparkanzo.’ I finally said, other hand still on her shoulder and giving it a soft squeeze. ‘If you shout too loud the monsters will come.’

I wish I was kidding.

[member="Khaleel Malvern"]

If his hand wasn't on her shoulders and her hand gripping his shoulders, she would've ended up on the ground with one slap. Glasses fell down the bridge of her nose. She released his shoulders as if she had been burned. Trembling fingers came up to fix the glasses on her face. The other hand balled-up into a first and went for a quick jab to his nose.

"Owwww..gggggawwwwshhKRIFFSTICKS." It was hard to say whether she was reacting in pain to his slaps or her attempted punch to his noggin.

After the swing to his face she jerked away from him, stumbled, and fell on her rear in the warm sand.

"Monsters?" Voice was significantly lowered. "Don't be silly. Monsters don't exist."

There was a roar in the distance.

Got punched in the jaw, girl was small. Couldn’t hit me right where she wanted too, but packed a good punch anyway. Huh. Looked differently at her now, maybe she wasn’t a lost cause all the way yet.

She dropped down, and I didn’t hear her anymore. Because I heard something else, five seconds after she’d hear it too, but at this point I was practiced at it. Diggers. Fecking. Diggers.

We were screwed.

Didn’t hear her anymore, instead I scoped her up, blood flowed richly from a little wound on the mouth, but I would live. Instead I ran. Sniper rifle, bag, girl… training or no training, I wasn’t going to keep this up for long.

But she had been tired after a little walk, she wouldn’t be able to ran ‘em off and we needed higher ground.

Shut up.’ I ordered, battle commander mode slash gang leader on, kept running.

[member="Khaleel Malvern"]

She protested and bounced along as he ran. A hand gripped his shoulder another the back of his scruffy-haired head. Glasses bounced on her nose. Sandy-hair broke from the messy bun and sprinkled loose against her face.

Eyes widened as the sand moved where they just were.

Something big.

"Must. Run. Faster. Faster Commando-man! It's," bounce-bounce-bounce, "coming!"

Another roar. The ground suddenly sunk to their right. Her grip tightened around the scruff of his neck as she twisted in his arms. "Rocks. There! Go over there!"

Feth right, it is coming. Whose fault is that, glass mistress 3000?

Didn’t say it though, really I had to be more understanding of her situation, no memories, spawning in somewhere and not knowing where, getting slapped by a ridiculously handsome individual and then being chased by wyrms, digging wyrms, I really should have been more understandable.

But ya know how it is with ‘should’s’, they never really work out as you want them to.

Ygkfhah.’ I blurted behind my breath as my beloved sniper rifle, her weight and the bag was starting to become increasingly more heavy. Rocks! Oh thank goodness, I was just about to throw this girl to the sand and let her sort it out for herself.

Just kidding.

Probably.

I leapt, with the gal in my hands at the rocks and landed, again curling up around her to save her from the blunt of the fall. Rocks digged into my body, bruising it at places. Sighed. ‘Least we were safe for now.

You were saying something about monsters and them not existing.’
