TRAITS
  • [Strength] Highly Trained - Castellans are fascinated not just by waging war, but the theories behind it. The logistics and management of garrison troops are their primary skills. Not something one might expect from Sithlings, but here they are anyway. Castellans are adept at training troops, maintaining discipline, and overseeing the defense of important facilities. To station a Castellan permanently at any location is to increase its chances of withstanding an outright assault or attack by the enemy.
  • [Strength] The Force - Unlike their cousins, the Justiciars, the ways of the Castellans are far less... Subtle. Castellans are fond of using the Force to increase their physical strength and endurance rather than speeding their movements. Instead of manipulating the minds of others, Castellans are more introspective, using a very basic form of Battlemind to increase their effectiveness in combat. A few Castellans have demonstrated an affinity for Force Lightning, though these are few and far between. Lastly, like most other Force Users, they are capable of basic displays of Telekinesis.
  • [Strength] Protectors - Large, galaxy-spanning games of intrigue and subterfuge are of no interest to Castellans. Such things are the purview of the Justiciars. But any Castellan is the master of their domain, wherever they might be stationed. They are masters of hunting down any informants, spies, or infiltrators that happen to stumble into them.
  • [Weakness] Too Battle Friendly - Despite their talent for battle and apparent love of it, Castellans don't seem to see very much of it. Eventually they get tired of sparring, start getting jittery. This tends to impact their performance negatively. It becomes necessary to cycle them through frontline military units to give them their fix of fighting before returning to regular duty. Regardless, it will never take long for a Castellan to jump right into the thick of battle if a facility they're stationed at comes under attack. Killing a Castellan will generally have an adverse affect on soldier morale and discipline, so it's best to counsel them against any irrational actions... Or kill them quickly, if that's your goal.
  • [Weakness] Dark Side - Castellans, while perhaps more professional and restrained than their peers, are still typical devotees of the Dark Side. They are abrasive, rude, and hot-headed. Their skills in battle and sniffing out traitors may be respected, but they are universally feared and disdained by everyone else in the Empire. Their trends of competitiveness and cruelty do them little favors, both in their social and work lives. The Castellans also have an intense rivalry with the Justiciars, and so the two should avoid crossing paths wherever possible.
DESCRIPTION

Castellan is the official title given to Force Sensitive Warriors serving in The Saaraishash's Eye of Truth. These men and women are charged with maintaining the defense of the Empire's most valuable locations. Whereas the Justiciars operate as itinerants, traveling through a multitude of planets and locales in pursuit of their duties, the Castellans are stationary. Unless being cycled through the front lines or between posts, they do not leave the location they are stationed at. They remain where they are for as long as necessary, purging incompetent personnel through, ensuring defenses are up to standard, and clamping down on any spies or dissidents that might attempt to share their home.

As with the Justiciars, the Castellans have a simple hierarchy composed of similarly labeled ranks: Minor, Major, and Commander. A Castellan Minor is a recent admittance and has yet to prove themselves fully to their new home in the Eye of Truth. Castellan Majors are veteran adepts, far more disciplined than their underlings and having served in their capacity for far longer. These are the commanding officers of three Castellan Minors, and direct them as they see fit. Castellan Commanders are the rarest of them all and cannot - under normal circumstances - be found outside of their headquarters on Bastion. Each holds authority over three Castellan Majors and their underlings as well. However, they prefer to monitor things and coordinate remotely. As always, the higher a Castellan's rank, the more formidable a foe they are.

If a Castellan Commander is seen in the field, then it cannot be understated how colossal someone's failure must be. An entire garrison is likely to be ordered slaughtered and replaced, as are the Castellans who failed in their duties.

There are four main tasks Castellans of the Eye are charged with: Evaluation, Protection, Inquisition, and Preparation.
  • Evaluation: Fortresses. Factories. Shipyards. Supply depots. Enemies of the Empire may lash out at the vital interests of the Sith Empire at any given time. It is the duty of the Sith Castellans to inspect such locations - and many more - to ensure they are adequately protected from any conceivable form of assault. Castellans on evaluation duty frequently do not stay for very long, merely observe the state of affairs and pass on a report to the High Inquisitor. If more Castellans show up several days later, then the garrison commander can rest assured that their is a problem - and he had better hope it isn't him.
  • Protection: The Justiciars have ears everywhere. If they suspect an impending attack, theft, or kidnapping or great significance, they will report it to the High Inquisitor, who will in turn dispatch Castellans to dissuade or stop such actions. While the Justiciars labor in the shadows to undo the plotters, the Castellans will act to ensure that any attempt to execute the plot ends in failure.
  • Inquisition: Spies and informers can crop up everywhere, including within the Empire's most secure facilities. If such entities are suspected of taking up residence in areas of import, a Castellan of rank proportionate to the posed threat will be stationed there. Once present, the Castellan will labor tirelessly to draw out the network of spies and cleanse the facility of any traces of subterfuge. Castellans will remain at the location until the saboteurs are determined to have been killed.
  • Preparation: Sometimes military and security officials fail in their duties. Sometimes decadence and laziness seep in where diligence once reigned. Castellans are dispatched to combat these habits, restoring discipline and readiness wherever it may lack. Garrison soldiers will be drilled and re-trained and officers set to simulations until the incompetents are drawn out and removed. The Castellan will remain until a higher authority determines that the garrison in question has been restored to an adequate state.
The Sith who become Castellans are pulled from recent graduates of any given Sith academy - generally those who were just short of becoming Justiciars. Castellans demonstrate the same loyalty to the Empire and strength in the Force as the Justiciars, but fall short beyond that. Castellans show less initiative, cunning, and intelligence than their counterparts. The problems faced by Justiciars are said to require more than just brute force. The same is true for the Castellans, albeit their brute force is more helpful in their more limited and specialized capacity.

Once their Castellan training is completed, their final admission into the Eye of Truth is contingent on approval by the High Inquisitor.

In terms of equipment, Castellans are given an assortment of advanced support technology to help in their duties. Their armor is heavier and more protective than that worn by the Justiciars. While Justiciars prefer the elegant style of Makashi, Castellans prefer Djem So or, on occasion (and especially true among the Commanders), Jar'Kai. The Castellans share the low opinion of everyone outside the Saaraishash that the Justiciars have, viewing them as disposable fodder. As such, the more proven Castellans will sometimes be allocated droids to serve as personal guards, assistants, or minions.

These sound really cool and really scary. Definitely crossing my fingers I never run into a Commander lest nobody hear from my characters again...

I only have one small request and hopefully, it'll be fulfillable -- I can't see to find any photo credit for the header you've used at the top? Once you add that I'll be able to give this my trainee stamp. :)

[member="Darth Osano"] -- I gave it a try and I believe the original is from here, so just include that as a link with the rest of your sources and you'll be good to go :D
