OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: Forethought- to set up the Sith Empire’s Kolto supplies, independant of manufacturing outside of its borders.

SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: Sith Imperial Kolto Growth and Processing Plant
  • Classification: Aquatic Industrial Plant
  • Location: Shusugaunt | Dubrillion
  • Affiliation: The Sith Empire
  • Accessibility: As underwater facilities, the only reliable access is via submersible vehicles. While not locations anyone can randomly walk into, both military and civilian contractors, as well as approved business contacts may gain clearance to the Kolto production areas in particular. Easier civilian access is available to the small Quarren colony attached to the facility.
  • Security: A primary security feature of the Kolto plants is their location deep beneath the surface, making breaching them with standard fleet accompaniments difficult, and deep enough to protect them from orbital bombardment. The plants are protected by automated turboblaster turrets, external blast doors, armor plating, and Ray Shield Generators. Heavy Surveillance systems in place are well monitored- because all of the atmosphere and environment is artificially maintained, the system has been set up to allow shut down and venting of air from individual areas, allowing the control to easily starve fires…. Or intruders… of oxygen and neutralizing the threat.
  • Description: Situated at the edge of geothermal vents that power the stations, these structures are built to sustain the incredible pressure of the ocean deep. Industrial and practical, the facility combines function…. And more function. Kolto harvesting and processing occupy their own wing, while laboratories and cloning facilities occupy another. Half of the stations are taken up by living arrangements for those stationed here, as well as the Quarren who are the primary caretakers of both the facility and the means of production.
POINTS OF INTEREST

Shusugaunt Business Hub: Located on the surface, the Shusugaunt business hub is a natural wonder of smooth, sleek lines, white alusteel and glittering glasteel. It contains offices, board rooms, fully-functional laboratories where big customers can receive a taste of the produce and more. All in an attempt to show the whales of the Galaxy that the Empire is serious about its commitment to export kolto without ideological interference.

Progenitor Ranging Grounds: Carefully arranged to be as non-invasive to the lifeforms as possible, the trench above the geo-thermal vents has been cordoned off with subtly crafted power fences designed to not only work underwater, but to mimic the natural flow of the underwater scenery. Deep, warm waters are necessary to keep the small population comfortable, and the biologists that are these animals’ keepers take their job and responsibility very seriously, doing as little as possible to disturb them in their natural habitat. Kolto collection sweeps are done only once an area has been confirmed clear of the Progenitors, allowing the collection to proceed with minimal disruption to the animals.

Laboratories: Occupying an entire wing, the laboratories are more than just locations for refinery and experimentation. While Imperial Scientists are given reign for further experimentation in the field of kolto refinery, medicine and related topics, as in their sister facilities, the underwater labs have a much greater charge. These are the nurseries that clone, grow, and care for, the cloned Progenitors, allowing the entire operation to exist at all.Because this is not their natural habitat of Manaan, the animal’s lifespan is drastically shortened, requiring a cycling population to maintain productivity. Imperial Scientists hope that with time and partnership with Sith Alchemy, they will find new and better ways to expand their lives as well as overall production, while lowering the input required further. The intention? Making Imperial Kolto the cheapest to produce in the galaxy, both for the sake of domestic markets and the potential to undercut competition across the galaxy.

Quarren Colony and Living Quarters: Obviously, the Selkath were unwilling to work with the Empire, after the One Sith’s attack on their homeworld. The Quarren however, long known to working well with the Sith, were more than eager to find a niche in this new business. Taking up a full half of the available real estate in the underwater facilities, the Colony wings contain living quarters, first aid, offices, rec areas and other amenities necessary for the long term living arrangements of both the Quarren caretakers and the more temporary contractors stationed there.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Many of the orthodox healing agents are currently produced by corporations and nations that are either directly hostile or ambiguously neutral to the interests of the Sith Empire. The solution to this was to look inward and become self-sufficient in one way or another.

They had bacta through the operations on Yavin and Tiss’Sharl, but it was relatively expensive and difficult to cultivate.

What the Empire needed was a healing agent that could see wider-spread use without the costs running out of control. The solution came in the form of kolto. Years ago the One Sith conquered Manaan, sinking Ahto City and killing the Progenitor. Silk Holdings and the Selkath managed to bounce back from the damage wrought.

But little did anyone know that the Sith did not leave the corpse of the Progenitor to waste.

It was now that the corpse saw true usage.

By the way of a certain assassin and an alchemist, the last two Sith Lords, who had seen the One Sith destroyed under their vigilant eye, the corpse found itself to the Sith Empire. The alchemist worked together with the scientists and from there… kolto sprung up.

Less special than bacta, half a dozen worlds making it through one way or the other, but substantial enough that the Empire wished a source of its own.

It chose two ocean worlds within its territories: Dubrillion and Shusugaunt, to serve as the main production spots for their kolto supply. Once more one world would be focused on the domestic side, making sure that the Empire’s Legion was well-supplied.

While the other was made into a hub to supply the Galaxy with a new source.
