Description:
What happens when you strip a fighter down to its most basic components to make it a lean, mean killing machine? You get the Slicer-5. James had an idea after seeing the many fighters and interceptors on the market. Most had a level of what he considered superfluous gadgets. So he decided to remove all of them and create a fast, agile interceptor and escort fighter. First he removed the hyperdrive, back up hyperdrive and navicomputer, freeing up a great deal of tonnage and making the ship much faster. Then he removed all on-board life support, reasoning that fighter pilots who engaged in this vessel would wear suits with their own life-support. This also reduced a great deal of the weight, making the Slicer-5 much faster and more agile.
By removing these commodities, James made the Slicer-5 a much slimmer silhouette, adding what he called “natural defense” to its capacities. Those who looked at the designs and flew the prototypes said that going into battle on this thing would be “almost like going into battle on a engine with weapons and shields strapped on. Its pretty basic.” James felt this would good; calling it a ‘hearkening to a bygone era’ when star fighters had one purpose; shoot the other guy out of the sky and be fast doing it.
In combat its function is simple; first be hard enough to hit and agile enough to swarm and take down the other fighters. From there its purpose is second fold; move in past the slow and heavy laser turrets, heavy missiles, and even some of the ubiquitously slow anti-fighter units and tear into the hulls of the larger ships. That, of course would be in an ideal galaxy where everything goes by plans.
