Once more, everything was happening at the same time. The confrontation that had been staring them in the face had evaporated as those who had threatened them backed off with barely a word beyond a soft threat that a future moment might not be so easily walked away from. These people are all so...difficult to pin down, Alys thought to herself. One moment, drawing violence, the next minute banishing it without a fight. All so very confusing. She half wondered if she'd fallen down and hit her head somewhere, making this an odd delusion.
Karrus' presence at least seemed real enough - he was just like her, younger, newer to this particular Hell, but desperate, innocent and yet not, clearly scared of the world opening up around him that managed to threaten to crush him down, all at the same time. Welcome to the real jungle, kiddo, she thought silently, glancing at the youngster as Sanya put him down to stand once more on his own two feet. Less trees than a real jungle, but the monsters here are every bit as real, and far less forgiving. That much she knew to be a rule - and she could not yet even rule out her companions as such. Wouldn't be the first to play with their food before they eat it.
Even so, she couldn't entirely maintain her distrust of the group - they'd protected Karrus from being taken in by the law, and Sanya had even armed Alys, though she still felt entirely too uncomfortable having a blaster in her hand. It felt too big to sit truly comfortable in her grip, the weight of it more than it looked, but yet less than might be required to cause her to drop it. Her wrist ached slightly from the tension it created, but she was coping. Though Sanya's right - maybe it's not a good idea to carry this thing openly, she noted, moving to tuck it into the belt that encircled her slender waist. A person armed is a person who might have something worth protecting. And that was bound to draw more predators.
The instruction that the woman provided meant little to Alysara. Clear your mind of all distraction? What are you, nuts? Never mind that most children her age were nothing but distracted...there was the simple knowledge that they had been a few moments away from potentially being blasted. Had she a mirror to look into, Alys knew her eyes would be wide, pupils dilated, breath coming a little quicker than her normal resting rate, her nerves aflame with the rush of adrenaline pumping through her system. I'm not scared...well, not exactly. Okay, maybe a little. Nobody wants to die for no reason. Or at all, really. Sanya had more chance of a local Hutt Lord dropping by to offer her a case full of credits.
She wasn't the only one that was nervous: she could see Karrus' uncertainty mirror her own. He's gotta be really scared, but he's not showing it as much as he could. Alys felt bad for him, truly - he was too young to plunge into this nightmare, and now to find himself in such an unusual situation above and beyond that...it was all a little much. She reached over and patted him reassuringly on the shoulder. An odd gesture - she'd never had siblings, nor much reason to have or want friends, but there was still that strange sisterly feeling. He doesn't have anybody, either, or maybe didn't until these guys showed up. What would happen next was anybody's guess, but she had a feeling that neither Karrus nor she would be the ones to decide. Somebody's doing all the decision-making, and I've got no clue who.
How else to explain the odd circumstances, on a day such as this? None of it seemed real.
"At least we're still alive," she said in a slightly tremulous voice, directing her words more to Karrus than to the others. Let's be honest: we're the only ones that didn't look like we might enjoy getting into a fight. Even Sanya had seemed very much prepared for a conflict, and that was more than a little intimidating. "And the law didn't get you, so the day can always get worse," the girl added with the softest of giggles.
"So what do we do now, Miss Sanya?", she asked softly, her gaze flickering to the woman, as well as to the two that accompanied them, lingering for a moment on the masked creature that was truly like nothing else she'd ever seen before. The little Togruta that was with them seemed even younger than she was, but carried himself with a good deal more composure. Where'd he pick up that confidence, anyhow? It didn't seem natural. "Do we just keep on walking until we can't keep going, or is there somewhere you want to go?"
