So how does the Netherworld work, really?

Alright, I've currently been doing a lot of think about far future arcs to bring Abyss' story to some sort of closure one day. The questions bugging me tho are: how does the Netherworld work here on Chaos?

Sadly I wasn't here during the event exploring that question, and while I know that there are certain changes that followed from it (the veil having grown thin for example allowing lost souls to escape with comparable ease to before) I still don't think I got the full extent of these effects.

And of course the real question: Would it be possible to become some sort of ruler of the part of the Nether called Chaos/Hell/The Void? I know this is a pretty outlandish thing to ask lol, but my intention isn't to end up playing some god of death. Instead I want to end his story by him leaving the physical world behind fully and best case become a demonic gatekeeper trying to keep spirits from returning back into reality (as fluff, I obviously can't tell anyone that they can't to bring their characters back from the dead anyway lol).

Thoughts, information, ideas, critic (Like seriously I'm fully aware that this is a pretty out there idea so feel free to throw my own stupidity at me lol), etc?

[member="Darth Carnifex"] [member="Cedric Grayson"] first thanks for the answer, the warp is what I imagined the Netherworld to resemble as well lol. With you both having written about it I have a follow up question if you care to answer: I've seen a few people write about going to the Nether without being dead, which asks the question just how physical that place is? Is it only the spirit given from by it when someone travels there, or can actual matter cross over? If not what happens to the body then, does go to some sort of slipspace in between?

[member="Darth Abyss"] during the Netherworld Crisis a number of location subs were made for the different parts of it, I think there were like thirteen? Field of Blades was one, there was a Garden Maze, one where it made it's own specific hell for each individual etc., stuff like that. Some portals made it so that as spirits crossed into the physical realm they became wholly flesh and blood again (as was the case for Voracitos's return to life years after his death as Emperor), though it usually came with a catch at the time, though I forget what the effects were. Most of them closed, but I think two still exist, one over Brokellia (Corellia but smashed to bits with an extragalactic world that got warped there by Akala), and the other one I think might be on Alderaan?? Though I'm pretty sure I'm mistaken on that second part.

As for how the Netherworld works when I write, I pretty much treat it as just another spatial dimension, except its filled with powerful energies (spirits/souls) as opposed to regular hard matter, giving it its illusionary effects on any beings that end up in there (living or deceased), and making it wholly different from our normal reality.

Also, I thought that Marka Ragnos reigned as King of Chaos (in the Netherworld), but it appears I was wrong! No rulers of either Chaos or the Netherworld it seems!

[member="Darth Voracitos"] thanks a lot for your answer, I'm currently looking through the mentioned location subs for more useful information. You seem quite knowledgeable on the topic (as far as possible for something considerably vague), so may I have yet another follow up question: Is it actually possible to rule chaos and if yes how? Is it simply a matter of how powerful someone is with the force?

Also another question for everyone reading this (one I'll most likely ask a codex judge soon), is it still possible to add location subs for the Nether or build something in those that already exist?

Wookiepedia

Outside the Netherworld event which is the exception to entering it, the Wookiepedia simply states that it is a place where Force Sensitive's souls go after their physical body dies. It for all intents and purposes is the afterlife, though it may be more akin to Purgatory as Enyo put it. It has been noted that only a small handful of individuals were ever mentioned to retain their own individual identities within the Nether, those being Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Yoda. They were only able to return as Force Ghosts due to their interactions with the Force Priestesses who taught them how to become Force Ghosts. Darth Plagueis also made a comment about the Nether basically being where one becomes one with the Force and surrendering their identity to become with the aether of the Force and only the strong were able to keep their individuality.

To say that you could claim the title of ruler over the Nether is about as feasible as you saying you are the ruler of nothing, because there is quite literally nothing to rule over unless you can somehow manifest the souls of the FS's that died and went there. If you were to claim rulership on such a realm, it basically means that you have mastered some godly Force power that no one in the history of Star Wars has known or heard about, otherwise there would have been mention of it. As far as I know the Force Priestesses are about the closest to that as one can be since they possess knowledge of returning from the Nether as a Force Spirit. I'm not sure on Chaos' spin on the Netherworld but if you want to stick to canon/legends, there's really not much you can do with it.

And here is a list of the Rift Events during the Crisis, and here is the submission of Brokellia (the merger between Corellia and the planet Lashtu, as I described earlier) where the Rift still exists, and I think according to this post cross referenced with the previous to links, means that the other Rift is on Csilla, since apparently that is where Omni's facility was during the event where the "Clockwork Rift" was located.

As for becoming ruler, as stated above, I find it unlikely to be respected if you attempted it. Even if you did become ruler, you would be hard pressed to be anything more than a gate-guard from wandering spirits and near'do'wells who freely wandering into the Netherworld and steal souls, such as myself >.>

[member="Darth Voracitos"] I'm actually more interested in something along the lines of gatekeeper then an actual ruler. I might should've made it clearer that this idea is meant to end a story not create a new one, while still offering the opportunity for occasional threads as guardian/whatever of the place. It's not about Abyss commanding the dead souls of Chaos or something similarly absurd, but rather something like him trying to watch over them, keeping them in and others out, effectively become some sort of entity roaming the place. My main concern is mostly if something like that would even be possible without him eventually losing the rest of his sanity, as well as the question if he could even do harm or otherwise manipulate others in that realm? I hope I'm making sense, I'm honestly having some troubles with expressing my ideas about this lol.

There are a few ways to enter the Netherworld.

  1. The netherworld event had rifts created by what was essentially a force deity that act like a door between the living and the dead.
  2. You can die.
You can probably pull off the concept of guarding one of the rifts, but you can't stop people from dying and going in or leaving as ghosts.
