So i was thinking, what if the map got filled and a new major faction wanted to emerge?

This scenario has come into my thinking in the recent times that have come to pass, as well as another topic. These two topics are as follows.

  • First: If the map is filled, than the addition of major factions is impossible as until one faction is utterly destroyed?
  • Second: What if an Ally invades another territory, BUT without fighting.

Now these two topics are but a small but very interesting thought. Imagine this, at this current rate, i see the map most possibly full by thanksgiving or christmas, granted that the Republic does not fall. Now, this brings up the question (As it may come up with the faction that i am looking at possibly joining) could a faction start inside the influence cloud of an active major faction, BUT instead of through rebellion, as part of a deal made with the faction who owns the cloud. Now this would be an Independence sort of deal, a counter to the whole Rebellion thing, and in turn would create a alliance off the back between the original faction and its new neighbor. Something to think about for both current major factions, staff, and new factions that are up and coming.

The Second comes of the... MORONIC fact that we have had more than 4 invasions in the past month alone. But also because this has never been truly addressed. Lets say the ally A wants a certain planet ally B has, and ally B wants a planet or thing ally A has. Think of it as an Invasion, without any fighting, and a completely diplomatic affair. To give the diplomatic and characters without physical strength a chance at being useful in a invasion.

Actually faction growth has been rather stale. With so many invasions going on, no one has time, patience, or energy to really dive into dominions. At least not the biggest factions. Great time to be a little guy.

But why not create a deal with the parent faction, think of it as a way to emerge in a faction's cloud but -WITHOUT- pissing off the original faction's members. Both good for story and feelings.

Interesting points.

For the first one, it's something that was being addressed to a degree with the faction one of my alts is in. It's meant to be a group working within the Republic on behalf of certain citizens, but there was a notion brought up that if our full demands were met we would have become a separate independent faction that kept up an alliance with the Republic if we seceded.

On the second, I guess it would be less of an invasion and more of a diplomatic trading of planets. Making peace talks more important in surrendering planets and such would be pretty cool, like if in return for not conquering this one defeated planet the faction offers something else (maybe more planets? XD) If there were trade routes and such detailed on the map planet trading would become more important in the grand scheme of things, but I imagine it would be a bit complicated to enact something like this.

For the second one, this is something i thought of back in January before the Republic branded Yusan fenn a traitor, ruining my dreams of one day becoming chancellor and trying something like that. As such, i come baring this thought now as i am looking to get up in the ranks in one faction, thus allowing for me to be able to push for something like that. Its a way to give diplomatic charaters, like members of the Senate, a way to be useful in a Invasion.

It would be pretty simple to do after all. Just have a short thread after the invasion for an official surrender from the defeated party involving appointed diplomats, and have all inter-party agreements (like cease-fires and such) done IC by the diplomats instead of OOC by the faction leaders. It would add an interesting layer to invasions if there could be negotiations between the two factions to broker deals and such, and yeah it would give more charismatic talkers opportunities to help out.

Who knows? Maybe someone could convince the attackers to just...leave! :p

If I was the leader of one of said already established major factions, I'd happily give a new faction a few worlds and RP it out. Problems can always be surmounted by cooperation.

As funny as that would be, i think it would hurt more than it could ever help. Imagine the... hate for pretty much throwing all effort out the window. -Some- are not as accepting as others.

I honestly push for this immensely if staff could talk it over. Think about it, perhaps set up rules or not to allow for such rises as what i suggested that would allow for the rising faction to be created on a good note with the mother faction, and from there become allies. I would love to see a softer way to rise to power than just constant struggles of factions saying. "We got better PVPers, were going to win this."

Going to plagiarise/mangle Churchill here. “The invasion system is the worst possible…except for all the other options.”
If you can invent a better way of doing it AND have people agree with it enough…well…you’re doing better than me. :p
