Arlan was a bit taken aback by Leo's suggestion that he teach the boy something. Knowing full well that his own time as a Padawan had been grinding by painfully slow, Arlan just didn't feel like he was anywhere near a level in which teaching another would be acceptable. Perhaps Arlan was a tad bit more experienced in some areas but that alone did not justify going out and trying to impart his knowledge on another. So for the moment, Arlan sat there in silence. His mind was caught deep in thought as he continually tried to think of a way to safely navigate this situation without upsetting his new companion. Arlan nodded to himself, stood, and turned towards Leo locking his eyes upon him. Perhaps he could not show Leo anything spectacular in the areas of the Jedi, but Arlan did know other things that could benefit Leo if he was willing to listen.
"I won't pretend to be a master when I'm not, and Sera has cautioned me several times learning from false sources." Arlan stated as he took a step forward. "Chances are something I teach you in the ways of the Force would counteract what your own master has. That is something I'd never wish to do. So, there isn't much I can show you in the ways of the Jedi." Arlan then smiled and shook his head. "But I wasn't always a Jedi, time was when I was just another merc running and gunning for credits. I had to learn to fight to survive, and turns out those learning transferred pretty well into the combat styling of the Jedi." Arlan stopped yet again then sighed. "I can't show you how to use a Lightsaber better, or be more proficient in the Force, but I can teach you how to fight with your own strength."
