Private Spacer's Remit

Halden still wanting to follow Nielum's obviously deranged advice didn't help her mood, but Ranna also didn't want to push him away. "Fiiine," she dug into her pocket and handed the comm link over to him. "And no, I did not appreciate his slipshod attitude about almost destroying everything electronic we carried as part of a sales pitch."

She listened as Halden talked about the whistle and bristled a little at mention of 'the fright' being 'put in her' but settled herself down. It was prudent to be worried about the device they'd come here to recover as well as worry about the comm that housed all her personal contacts and served as a link to her employers. Sure her ship had its own relay, but it wasn't the same. So instead she countered. "If he knew what he was doing he wouldn't be showing off blatantly illegal tech to strangers you know." On Lonesome he'd have been beaten and under the thumb of a gang by now, or shot for messing with the wrong person. Shifting in her seat, Ranna considered that maybe the law had things more under control in these underground cities than she thought. They'd certainly prevented the type of environment that would have shifted the Sullestan's attitude towards a more cautious one.

"No way it worked!" She said springing up to check over Halden's shoulder as he declared success. And it had against all belief. "Yeah," she said taking it back still a little stunned. "Yeah, I'll drive." She accepted the consolation with gratitude. It'd likely be a nice way to get her mind off of Nielum and back on straight.

There was a conciliatory glint in his eyes and he offered her a soft smile "I understand" he said, giving her a chance to vent her frustration without all too much opposition. A wise path, it would seem, for Ranna continued noting her annoyance with the Sullustan.

Apparently having decided to die on another hill, Halden simply shrugged as he continued working on getting the comms pad unlocked. Still, he would offer a playful "Hey, my whistles aren't illegal. Take that back!" with a light laugh.

Eventually, the comms pad yielded to whatever device it was that the mechanic had given them. He leaned in her direction as she approached and showed the screen to her with a happy "Right?" Halden made sure to let his friend see what he was looking at on the display. The name, a few different communication channels, a contact list, a file storage and a holonet link were all immediately visible. There were plenty of places to be looking when investigating their attacker.

The two of them were of the same mind as they moved on to talk about leaving. "I'll leave the comms pad with you and go and wrap things up in there. I'll be right back" With that, he jogged back into the shop with Nielun's device in hand.

Upon returning, he no longer carried the cable-heavy device and instead held a bag containing the electro whistles. With one smooth and energetic motion, he hopped onto the back of the speeder bike and tossed the keys to Ranna. "Let's head for the spaceport. If you'd like, we could review this on the ship - if not, we can probably make a copy and have a look on our own. Up to you."

"Copy sounds good." Ranna agreed as she straddled the bike and looked over its controls as she pulled on a pair of sunglasses. She could feel Halden shifting behind her as he settled in and the bike gave little bounces on its repulsor field. Reaching forward she adjusted the knob controlling the field, strengthening its resistances until it barely reacted when she tried to rock it. Perfect. "You ready? Hang on!" She called back to Halden as her foot rocked forward in the accelerator cradle rocketing them forward. She pulled the bike higher, clearing the pedestrians and lower flying vehicles where traffic was thickest before pushing the accelerator to its maximum output causing the bike's turbothruster to scream out in a high pitched whine. At the first corner she took, she pitched the bike up again, gaining room to loop up and around the building's corner rather than slowing. She immediately dropped to just above the ground traffic. Using the bike's small size and other vehicles as ground clutter in conjunction to confuse and throw off any traffic enforcement cameras. Often they were long past before the automated system even realized there was a speeder to be tracked.

In front of Halden, she was grinning like a woman possessed as she pressed herself closer to the bike's surface. Most people thought Y-wings were slow and ponderous, and that was true even of the Outback line which she preferred. They were decidedly 'average' across the spectrum of fighter performance until their SLAM drives were activated. This was like that, in an asteroid field. Once Ranna even put the bike over on its side, preventing a hover truck entering cross-traffic from taking their heads off as they zoomed under it in the blink of an eye. Righting the bike, she laid it over on its other side, boosting the resistance coils to their max to push against the face of another blocky building that rose to meet the roof of the giant cave housing the underground city. Then they were out on the main thoroughfare and things settled down as much as a straight-line drag race could.

Arriving at the spaceport, Ranna let the bike coast down into a more sedate pace to ensure that they'd be able to stop in a reasonable time and to prevent alarming any staff watching the approach. The bike settled on its landing skids with barely a bump as she set it down on the curb and Ranna swung her leg off over the nose of the bike as she stood. "Thanks Halden, you were right about that cheering me up!" She patted him on the shoulder in thanks before stretching her shoulders out not caring that it exposed the pistols she carried under her jacket. She could still feel the thrumming of the bike's engines in her thighs where she'd been gripping it down to her toes and in her hands. "I'll send you a clone copy of the data but it may be awhile before I can follow up on anything or even really look at it. But don't let that stop you okay?"

The mood seemed to shift quick after their affairs with the native had settled. Halden joined Ranna on the speederbike and dug the keys out from his pocket and handed them to her wordlessly. He watched as she made herself comfortable, eyes tracing her hands and feet and lingering by the field control knob for a few extra moments.

Upon being asked if he was ready, Halden eyed Ranna with amused suspicion and a smirk. Placing his hands on the back of the seat, he let out a tentative "Sure"

As soon as they took off, every muscle of his arms and core tensed - the speeder lurched off of the platform and shot off into the speeder lanes at a tremendous speed. Quickly, Halden leaned forth and brought his left arm around her core. Trying to maintain the more distant position would likely have been lethal. Although he may have been startled at first, the youngster soon embraced the thrill, laughing and letting out joyous howls as they rushed through the Sullustan cityscape.

As they arrived, he squeezed her lightly for a hug before hopping off. "That was awesome! Anytime, Ranna! That cheered me up! We've got to do that again, I'll get helmets" his words were excited and cheerful as he took a few adrenaline fueled steps around the premise. It wouldn't be long before he returned to her with a bright smile lingering on his lips. Seemingly calming down, his voice remained up-beat "Sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself, but we should definitely do it again. Maybe not today. Y'know: I love my ship and it goes much faster than the bike - but there's something different with feeling the fresh air, wind in hair." The sentence ended somewhat abruptly but the enthusiasm in his eyes remained

Before too long, they returned to the business at hand. He nodded "Yeah, you have my contact information. Go for it! I'm busy the next few days but I'll skim through it as soon as you send the copy over and take a more thorough look when I have the time." Halden hopped back onto the bike, readying himself to take it to the ship "and if you ever feel down or want to talk, feel free to shoot me a message, okay?"
