"Apologies if I've been bad for business, but this is more important," she said with a soft smile, but he likely wouldn't appreciate that very much. So when he mentioned a clash between rival gangs, Valery quickly produced a credit chip to divert his attention away from what he had lost out on, and refocus it on what he could earn instead.

"I could use names and places, times as well if you have them," she said as she pulled out another pair of credit chips. The money wasn't actually her own, and given to her for Jedi missions specifically. So paying for these things wasn't exactly going to be an issue.

"If you know who to be most careful with, and what kind of gear they might bring, I'll pay extra for that as well. Anything that can help me get those people off the streets."

Eugh, yes, definitely a Jedi. The greater good was more important than him being able to fill his ship with enough fuel to get off this ring. He should be glad to be giving up life for a chance to bring down a crime lord.

Next week the jedi would be gone and their replacements would be in place and keeping criminals back on the street. There were not enough jedi to police the galaxy.

"Boss of the scythes is easy enough to find," Vetru explained. "His place is over the Bedlam Club on red seventh. You can expect at least thirty goons there with compact repeaters on any given day," Vetru explained. "Now for..."

He trailed off suddenly, looking over the jedi's shoulder. A houk, two twilek and a human wearing the colours of the scythes and carrying serious hardware. They were pointing at the pair of them.

"I think we got trouble."

While he began to offer her some information, she narrowed her eyes and took mental note of everything he said. Dealing with that many thugs was going to be tricky, but as long as she planned it right, she had a feeling that she'd be able to handle it. Perhaps she would have to contact other Jedi or the local law enforc-

She paused in her thoughts as he pointed out some trouble.

Valery could feel it as well, in the Force — they weren't just being pointed at, but she could sense their hostile intentions,
"Yup, trouble," she confirmed before she gently pushed against Vetru's shoulder to get him moving away into the alleyways. But as expected, the group behind them wasn't planning on letting them go and picked up their pace in pursuit of the two.

"There, lead them around the corner,"

The second they were around it, she pulled on his shoulder and hopefully forced him against the wall. Footsteps were coming closer quickly and the second the human and Twi'lek came around, Valery appeared and sent a powerful, Force-augmented kick up high to knock the human out instantly. The Twi'lek tried to react but her speed was almost impossible to track for them, and so another punch later and he was down as well.

Only the Houk and one more Twi'lek remained, and they were approaching with blasters drawn.

"What? Come on!"

Vetru offered mild protest as she jedi-handled him around the corner and pressed him against a wall. What followed was a high kick to the head.

Suddenly, the zabrak wasn't sure if he was angry or aroused. It was deeply confusing. What wasn't confusing was the pair of enforcers bearing down on them.

Vetru wasn't as dangerous as a jedi by and stretch of the imagination. He was quick enough on the draw and the houk was a large target. Shooting a blaster was foolish and might draw some attention, but Vetru wasn't thinking far ahead. He hardly ever thought far ahead.

Three bolts struck the houk in quick succession.

Three bolts were fired and all of them connected with the Houk, who was sent down to the ground. The Twi'lek who remained, however, pulled a pistol as well, and the second he pulled the trigger to shoot Vetru, Valery jumped in between them and held up a hand. The bolt struck her palm and deflected back into the man's blaster to blow it apart in his hand.

Using her flexibility, she aimed another kick and sent him crashing against the wall of the alleyway to knock him out for a while too. With him down, almost immediately a silence fell that was only broken by a small sigh from Valery.

"You okay?" she turned around and stepped back because she had gotten a little too close, "More of them will come because of the blaster fire. You know a place where we can lay low or get away from them?"

"Kark," Vetru gasped.

She had deflected that blaster bolt with her bare hand. If she hadn't, it would have lanced right through him.

Vetru heard the question, but instead of answering he turned to look at the spot where he would have crumpled and died.

"Close call," he said, holstering his blaster. He was half tempted to tell her to go far, far away from him and this entire world. This was sort of her fault.

She had still saved him when he hadn't been particularly helpful.

"Yeah, yeah I do. Come on."

Vetru didn't waste any more time. He turned on his heel and broke into a jog. His pace only lasted two corners before he pulled his coat tight around himself and slowed to a walk.

Vetru led her through a crowded street, before turning into a side street.

"Keep watch," he hissed as he opened a locked chain with a code cylinder. He pulled it free and threw open a door into an abandoned floor of the building.

He looked alright, he said he was fine too, but something felt different to her. She wasn't going to pressure him about it, but she had a feeling this little encounter didn't really help with his desire to assist her. Not that she blamed him for it — info brokers were usually the types who avoided these clashes for a multitude of reasons.

It was likely that working here for him would now be too risky.

But for now, she just followed him without saying a word, and matched his speed through the jog and when they slowed down to maneuver through the crowd without standing out. They ended up at what looked like an abandoned building, where she stopped and glanced around before going inside after him.

"Sorry about all that," she said with a small frown. She did actually feel bad about dragging him into all of this, even though he likely really didn't want to be in the situation with her.

"Do you think we're safe here for a bit? Or will they be able to find us here?"

Vetru was not enamoured with this Jedi mission at all. It all felt like interfering in matters as a one off trick instead of making any real changes. They called the Jedi the guardians of the peace but he saw little of their work down on the ground.

On the other hand she had gone out of her way to save him. Save him from trouble she had brought to his street corner, but he liked to consider all angles.

Vetru turned to look at her. There were a few desks in the corner of the floor, a portable power pack that might have hooked up to a comms unit and a terminal. Behind him, opaque plastic sheets bulged and sank as the wind flowed through smashed windows.

"Safe enough for a few minutes," he said. "They might be looking but they've got other problems tonight."

Vetru crossed his arms over his chest. As if to make his point for him, the sound of a distant explosion rang out.

"What's the plan?" He asked. "What are you trying to achieve here?"

Walking over to the table, Valery leaned against it and took a brief moment to catch her breath and process everything that had happened up until this point. She had the information she needed and had already taken out a couple of thugs, but there were some loose ends as well. The info she got still needed to be used to actually bring down these criminals, and she also had to deal with Vetru here. Normally, she would have offered for him to go and get to safety, but he still needed to be paid.

She doubted that he'd trust her to come back to pay him.

Her eyes then shifted back up as Vetru finally broke the silence,
"The plan?" she blinked and turned her gaze away, in the direction of the explosion that echoed through the streets. "Right now, I'm not sure — on my own, I can do a lot of damage to these groups, but I'd rather not drag you into more trouble," she said.

"But I do still need to pay you..." she sighed and ran a hand up through her hair, "Maybe we just lay low, and when everything is clear, I'll handle the payment and deal with these criminals another time."
