Strengths:
- Fast Knife-Blade: The Strident-Class Star Defender could close the distance quickly and deliver devastating close up assaults.
- Able to land in Atmosphere: The Strident-Class Star Defender could land in atmosphere much like the Venator-Class and could be used as a main base for drawn out campaigns on foreign worlds.
- Formidable: Able to fight toe to toe with most ships in its category and even some battlecruisers with its vast amount of weaponry and firepower.
- Exposed Bridge: Placed smack on the front tip of the ship the bridge is the head of the ship and looks onward into battle.
- Slave Circuitry: Most non-combat related functions were operated by droid brains on a slave circuit. Ion weapons and mass computer viruses could shut down life support, gravity, or other functions that would disrupt the crew's functions.
- Exposed Shield Generators: Two shield generators were exposed on the ship's spinal superstructure.
The Strident-Class Star Defender was a blend of Imperial and Corellian design. Despite the dislike for factions such as the First Order and Sith Empire, both of the factions' ship designs were second to none which resulted in Corellian designers taking the best of their own design choices and the Imperial ones. Comprised of two wedges, the Strident-Class bristled with weapons across both sides of the main superstructure. Down the spine of the star defender the structure housed two shield generators as well as the ship's main hangar and was protected by a series of point defense cannons and turbolaser batteries. Turbolasers were also scattered along the broadsides of the ship. Its hangar was very simple and was positioned right before the engineering and main reactor decks. Two sets of three docking tubes were set on either side of the main wedge.
The ship's bridge was place at the front of the ship. An odd, and dangerous placement oversight in the original design but its Corellian captains relished the chance to dive headfirst into danger. The bridge thus had its own shield generator and heavy armor plating shut over the viewport during combat situations. With the viewport shut off, advanced cameras and aural sensors worked together with top of the line holo-displays to project an accurate image of the battle all around them, which gave the the bridge crew a 360 degree view of the bridge's surroundings. The bridge also had its own set of escape pods. Behind the bridge were most of the crew quarters, which were rather spacious for a warship. This was due to the ship's incredibly low crew count, as most of the ship's non-combat related functions were delegated to slave circuited droid brains.
The ship's secondary hangar held mostly dropships like the Chariot-Class U-Wings. Typically the Strident-Class main hangars were fitted to house an assortment of old Alliance and Corellian fighters, but specialized fittings could be utilized for more exotic fighters. That being said, the Strident-Class wasn't meant to be a carrier. Its main focus in combat was to pelt the enemy with turbolaser fire and close the distance quickly to be within knife fighting range. The Strident-Class was designed to fight one on one with the Sith Empire's own destroyers and battlecruisers. It also replaced many of the Alliance designs still in service with the Corellians and slowly became the mainstay destroyer in the small Corellian Fleet.
