HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Striga was discovered thousands of years ago during the height of the Galactic Republic. Though initially considered quite an interesting world, it has few interests from potential colonists thanks to its downright miserable climate. There was, however, a group of colonists from Naboo who decided to settle there thanks to the planet's similar terrains, even bringing some sea creatures from Naboo with them. These settlers were almost exclusively human, and spent a long time constructing settlements on the planet. At first, these planets were similar to typical Naboo architecture, but with a darker and more moody tone to them thanks to the materials used giving them a more dull colour.
As centuries passed, contact was lost with Striga from the rest of the Republic, and what exactly occurred is unknown. Records have been lost as to how the human colonists from Naboo became the Ripokasta who now inhabit the planet. The Ripokasta claim that their 'Elder One' reached down and changed them to be a more pleasing form, while some believe a rapid mutation came about thanks to something within the climate of the world.
One thing for sure about Striga is that most life upon it is gargantuan. Even the usually small Convor who are treated by the Ripokasta as mythical beings are huge by most animal standards. Eventually, the Ripokasta were rediscovered just prior to the Gulag Plague - unfortunately, the visitors they welcomed with open arms were the ones that brought that Plague with them.
Believing that the outsiders had either poisoned them or their Elder One was punishing them for allowing outsiders to roam freely, the natives either excommunicated outsiders or they disappeared into the cityscapes, with nobody knowing their fates. As time went on into the Four-Hundred Year Darkness, this attitude only got worse as the natives of Striga became more and more reclusive, refusing any entry.
The Netherworld event changed things on Striga significantly, with earthquakes seperating cities from each other even more than before, sending the gargantuan creatures into a frenzy and increasing the Ripokasta's force-sensitivity percentage even more than it already was. With walls collapsing and damage to the planet itself, the people of Striga took time to heal and rebuild, even allowing some visitors to aid in this healing process. Though they now allow some well-meaning visitors under strict guidelines, seeing even just a human from off-world makes the natives of Striga skittish, and many now live in a state of paranoia.
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To provide a homeworld for the Ripokasta species.
- Canon: N/A
- Links: Ripokasta
- Planet Name: Striga
- Demonym: Strigan
- Region: Wild Space
- System Name: Striga
- System Features: Within the system, only the planet Striga and its sun reside, though the planet is farther from its sun than most inhabited planets. This, combined with a certain tilt of the planet and the fact that almost all the land is concentrated in the northern hemisphere, makes 'daytime' significantly shorter than it would be on most worlds.
- Coordinates: AK-36
- Major Imports: Durasteel, Osmium
- Major Exports: Lommite
- Gravity: Standard
- Climate: Striga is temperate, but is often much colder than many typical Temperate climates and tends to have cloudy, rainy weather.
- Primary Terrain: Most terrain on Striga is Grasslands and Plains with scattered forests throughout. There are certain regions that have more hilly or mountainous terrain.
- Blackhaben: The largest of the cities across Striga, Blackhaben is known for having the greatest defenses across the planet; with large turrets that protect the outer walls and then further inner walls to further keep the most important areas of the city alive, Blackhaben is a veritable fortress. It sports high-rise gothic architechture and institutions all sorts, from military academies to museums of art.
- The Gray Sea: The largest body of water on Striga, the Gray Sea begins at the most northern and largest continent of the planet and is named for its very dull colour. Though most inhabitants are simply the giant creatures that live beneath the surface, there is at least one decent-sized city that sits on top of it.
POPULATION
- Native Species: Ripokasta, Sugati, Balyeg and Giant Convor
- Immigrated Species: Humans, Sando Aqua Monsters, Opee Sea Killers
- Population: Moderately Populated
- 99% Ripokasta
- 1% Human
- Primary Languages: Ripokastan, Galactic Standard Basic
- Culture: Most Ripokastans will spend much more time on education than other species; school hours are often over 12 hours long and by the time any member of society reaches adulthood, he or she is expected to fully understand all that they learned. Humour, art and entertainment often seems overly complicated or contrived to most other species, making it feel uncanny or uncomfortable at times. Sports are the same, with the planet having mainly unique games with a rule list longer than some that were represented at the Galactic Games.
- Government: Striga is led by a Geniocracy, where a group of ten of the most intelligent members of the planet's population are put on a ruling council over the planet. These positions are renewed every ten years, though a council spot may be quickly re-filled in the case of death or psychological or mental damage.
- Affiliation: N/A
- Wealth: Medium - though the people of Striga are usually highly intelligent, or at least are supposed to be, their distrust and suspicion of outsiders means that they are importing and exporting far less than they could be, and generally do not boost their economy as they could through trade, which holds it back.
- Stability: Medium - Law and Order within the cityscapes of Striga are usually quite high, with crime rates being quite low thanks to the sometimes excessive punishments that can be issues in the case of violating multiple laws, something that's extremely easy to do in the process of committing a crime. It is quite dangerous outside of the cities however, thanks to the gargantuan creatures that roam the lands and oceans.
- Freedom & Oppression: Though there is no inherent fear of the ruling Council, the laws in Striga are highly complex, with various technicalites and small violations that have quite unusual punishments in some cases, being much harsher than most sentients would see as required. For most natives, this is not an issue as they are thoroughly educated on the law and all its facets.
MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
- Military: Each cityscape on Striga, depending on size and population has a different level of military defense. Blackhaben is notable for not only its very well-trained militia who defend the city from its walls regularly, but the large anti-air turbolasers mounted on the walls that are used not only for taking out potential enemy ships, but are also used on any creatures attempting an attack on the city. Most cities will mainly utilize a garrison/militia, without any emplaced defenses.
- Technology: Striga has Galactic Standard levels of technology.
