Public Summer Time - Kattada

Valery had noticed how he looked at her, even through the shades of his sunglasses. She made no comment though, and just met his gaze with a knowing grin. One that spread further across her lips when he began to look around, almost as if he was making sure that nobody was watching him.

"Something got you on edge?" Valery teased before reaching for her cup — a coconut-looking object with a colorful straw that slipped between her lips. She sipped from the fruity juice inside and hummed in delight.

This is exactly what she needed.

"I'll be honest, I was not expecting to see you here. You struck me as an all work type." Another grin, as she continued teasing away in the safety and warm comfort of the sun.

Lily blushed when she realised that she came across a little odd with the rapid fire questions, she knew that Ran did not mean anything but a jest, but she could not help the embarrassment of the situation display as a soft pink glow on her cheeks. She listened to the answers that Lossa gave and she nodded her head, "well, you don't necessarily have to find out. It only matters if you wish to involve the father." Lily mentioned, she had been raised by a family of women with no father or male input.

"I am sure you will do a great job and I am sure Master Briana is excited to have a niece to spoil and babysit." Lily knew she would be terrible with children right now, she was too focused on herself and desires to improve massively with her skills, however there would be some day that she would be ready to settle and form her own family. "What is her name?" Lily asked, realising she did not know the child's name.

Hearing about Sid, she smirked, the droid had protected her a couple of times in the past and he was very blunt in his words and actions. It was something that Lily respected and needed at the times. "He is very good, though some can find him too blunt at times." Lily added in as she looked over to Ran.

The galaxy was a weird place. There were people from all walks of life, and really, Coren was trying to welcome them all. Though, at times it came at the expense of his extended family at times. Working on making sure the visitors to Kattada were having a good time, still, when he saw Iona, there was a part of him that was glad she was around.

More Starchasers that still came home, and didn’t only think of the Dawn Chaser as the only home base. Sure, Kattada was in the envelope of the Galactic Alliance, but they stood as a more free-port for the Jedi of the galaxy. And those who were sort of Jedi, by association. Like most of his family. He may be the last one to call himself Jedi, even if he had a side of Warden. But he was a Wayseeker so it all worked out.

“Out there trying to help people? Kaia has been doing that. I don’t think she even made it back here as shes just out… there.”
He nodded up. Coren wished there was still a space for him there, and maybe soon again. But he had Sentinels and Shadows to train.

“And life is good…Been working on getting out there more, but keep coming here, nice to have a base that isn’t being sieged for a while.”
He laughed. Yeah, he was so good at conversation.

“Looking to stay a bit? Take some classes at the Temple?”

Didn’t need the Force to know what Jared was thinking and he regretted that he wasn’t more practiced on keeping it away from others. The heat, and mild dehydration, he was going to blame it on. Not her at all. Nope. But it was why he was on alert. Looking around, the Mirialan Wayseeker was smirking.

“Just making sure you didn’t bring some of your Jedi as an entourage. Kattada is a hub for Sentinels and the like, so definitely others out here to hunt and spy.” He didn’t want to make the Shadow aspect publicly known, even if Kattada flew an NJO flag.

“Well, Kattada does have my father running the Temple Enclave here.”
He offered with a glance at her. “So sometimes its better to come around and see whats going on. Plus some of the witches here have offered me extra lessons.” How she was going to take that bit of knowledge was up to her.

"Are you worried they're going to spy on you?" Valery flashed him a smirk, most certainly aware of what was going through his mind. Not because she was reading his thoughts — she'd never invade privacy like that. No, she knew because of the look in his eyes and the way his emotions echoed through the Force.

A little fact she'd keep to herself.

"Ah, so it is work that brings you here, then," Valery teased. "Though, I'm sure neither your father nor the witches require you to walk around the beach like this." She perked a brow, sipped from her drink, and looked him up and down to make her point. Not that she was complaining, but it was fun to poke a little fun.

"Also, are you going to keep standing there? You can sit down and join me, you know."

“Looking to stay a bit? Take some classes at the Temple?”

"Oh...um...well..."

Long hair in a ponytail, Iona reached back to rub her neck. What did she stay, especially when directly questioned by Coren Starchaser Coren Starchaser himself?! Lie? Did she just sign up for a few classes then just play hooky? It was a real possibility. Just seemed very childish however. A waste of her time and everyone else's.

"No...its not for me. Staying down in one place, listening to the same boring Force theories day after day. I'd go insane. I'm sure its great for the others though. Working hard, our Jedi instructors."

“Me? They’d have to know what I’m even after to be able to spy on me.” He learned how to be a Jensaarai from one of the best Spymasters in the galaxy, Veino Garn. Mix that in with his father’s Sentinel/Shadow training in his childhood, some Witch skills, and a penchant for hot rodded gunships? Not many would get into his mind, but also, again, they’d have to see him and her around more often to know the extent of keeping an eye.

“Just figure a Master such as yourself doesn’t get to go off leash without someone watching where you’re going?”
His father tended to have at least one Jedi Shadow from the Sullust Home Guard around with him. Well, he used to. Now he was just given an honor guard when leaving Kattada or arriving at Sullust.

“Work, or learning. Take your pick. Witches have a bit of a process…”
He tipped his head and shrugged.

“And standing is fine, good view from up here.”
A roll of his eyes and a light laugh as he helped himself to a bit of sand near her. “Come for the passing of the year, or Jedi business?”

The thing with Coren and the rest of the Starchasers, was that the Force was much more in the legends mindset of Luke Skywalker’s training. A Jedi was what you were, because of how you handled yourself. More of a moral code rather than a spiritual path or religion. Sure, it was the latter, but for Coren, a man of action, the guidelines it provided were more important.

He did side with locking Sith in Magma cells once upon a time.

As Iona gave him the truth, he nodded and smiled. A warm smile, understanding in the eyes. “I get that. I was never taught in a Temple either. And I suspect that it runs in the family.” A shrug. “Getting out and doing good in the galaxy is what is important. Maybe sometimes making appearances to shake hands and bow to the right Jedi, if they need that.”

He looked from Iona to the coast that was near by. “What are you flying nowadays?”

An ever important question

Iona Starchaser Iona Starchaser

"Ummm...well....nothing?"

Blushed formed under her light green complexion. She was a Starchaser, meant to fly, born to own the spacelanes. It wasn't that she couldn't fly, she could...mostly, it was the fact of actually owning her own vessel. The thought of stealing a vessel from a criminal had crossed her mind frequently. She couldn't bring herself to do such a thing, even if a criminal underlord deserved such a thing.

"I've been hitch hiking. I don't own a vessel. Whatever odd jobs I can do to earn passage."

"Off leash?" Valery snickered and couldn't stop herself from smiling anymore, "Oh please, I can handle myself. Besides, do you really think they'd try to have a Shadow follow a former Shadow?" She had even been the leader of the Shadows, for both the NJO and the Silvers. The latter was a lesser-known fact — she had never revealed her identity during her tenure there.

But her path as Shadow was known and that meant she was difficult to spy on.

"Hmm, I pick learning with a touch of fun. You're not here to learn, are you?" She smiled hopefully. It'd be awfully boring if even a trip to the beach was about learning some strange new ability.

Even Jared Starchaser needed some time to himself.

Valery then looked up with a perked brow, "The view, hm? Should I ask?" She smirked and watched him finally sit down. The straw of her drink slipped back between her lips and for just a moment, she quietly looked at him. "Neither. I'm just here to take a break. I've been feeling... off," she admitted.

Jonyna had been stressed a lot lately.

The beach.

The beach was nice.

It wasn't something she showed often, but Jonyna was a casual guitar player, and pretty good at it. Set up under a small umbrella and a towel, the woman idly flicked at her guitar, singing to herself. Dressed only in a thin bikini, Jonyna was always one to prefer the wind on her fur.

Maybe it was unconcious, but she couldn't help the force carrying her voice through the air as she sang to herself.

Another night in any town
You can hear the thunder of their cry
Ahead of their time
They wonder why~

Shadows of a golden age
A generation waits for dawn
Brave carry on
Bold and the strong~

Only the young can say
They're free to fly away
Sharing the same desire
Burnin' like wildfire~

Could she be left off the leash? Without Coren in the picture, and even if he was in the picture, she was still the Grandmaster. Maybe Matsu could handle some of the load, but Sith and Dark Siders were probably gunning for Valery something fierce. Maybe it was his father’s teachings, and the Underground, always know where your foes reside.

“I mean, the obvious choice is that, yes they do. And I know my father always said that you have to expect what you wouldn’t expect. Its a lesson he learned from Coruscant.” That Coruscant. The End Game Coruscant.

“Learning is what I do. Dad said he wanted me and Kaia to be what he couldn’t. The One Sith War really shaped his approach to the galaxy, and changed what he could do. Jedi is not a religion but a moral compass, to a degree. The Force shouldn’t only be seen through the Jedi lens, yadda yadda…” Jared waved a hand and shrugged.

“But the beach? No. And now with the currency company.” He looked at the sand and sea, then back at her. “Off, how?”

"They can try," Valery said rather smugly, but it was obvious that all of this was purely teasing. The Temple Guard followed her everywhere when she was on Coruscant, and during most trips away, she always had other Jedi close. Not because she wasn't capable of defending herself, but because the Order did not want to take the risk.

Losing leadership could cause a huge shift in the war effort.

"I'd say I agree with your father. I've studied with other groups myself. The Aing-Tii not too long ago, right before they were attacked by the Sith Order." She had fought against the Sith there and helped some of the Aing-Tii escape, but it was going to take a long time for them to overcome their losses.

But Valery had her own struggles to overcome first.

"Something happened during the Battle of Coruscant that I didn't quite expect. It's a long story, but I carry a fragment of Kyrel Ren's soul inside me. I struck him down over Exegol and he attempted to attach himself to me to control me. He was stopped but not entirely." She sighed and ran a hand up through her hair, "I met his son at Coruscant and his presence made that fragment feel so much stronger. It felt almost... alive."

She paused and looked at him with a forced smile.

"I'm trying to get some distraction from it."

Babies, Battlefields, and Murderbots. Ran decided that Lossa's life sounded much more interesting than most. "Wow! Regardless of the circumstances, Congratulations! A healthy baby is cause for celebration. Shall I fetch us a round of drinks?" Ran asked sincerely as she finished the one that sat in front of her. It was fruity, delicious, and not mind-altering at all. Ran kept herself sharp even on the beach of a resort world.

Ran listened to the pair exchange words. To Ran, they seemed familiar with one another. She thought it nice. Ran had friends but none that she was that familiar with. It wasn't something she was accustomed to. She believed she'd get there one day though.

"Yes! Let's hear the name." Ran agreed with Lily. She was obviously excited. She could count the number of babies she'd met on one hand.

The one trick with his family was the size. Coren wanted to keep them all flying. But sometimes amends had to be made. Not everyone could start off with their own shuttle or freighter. Some had to get fighters. Coren knew that. It happened to Kyra.

"Do you have the coordinates for the Dawn Chaser? We always have jobs aboard that. And some spare fighters?" The family Venator/Victory carrier. Served as a shadow port and a mobile strike platform when the Starchasers were called to do some missions.

Mostly the smuggling. Coren had old connections to a few designated war ships.

"And are you free lancing?"

The fringer Starchaser wasn't quite sure where Kattada sat in the hierarchy of New Jedi Order space. Coren was a staunch voice for not consolidating. And allowing self expression in the Jedi. For students to learn what they need to as long as kept away from certain forbidden topics that were counter to the Jedi religion. But perhaps because it was a Starchaser world, all Jedi were safe

Coren always stood with all Jedi.

"So you've made it out to the Kathol Outback. Smart move. There are also the other oddities out there." Ones Jared helped. Some he hunted.

"Have you not seen a healer? I know between the Witches and some of the former Silver Circle, we have healers on Kattada." The Mirialan took a look at his companion. Surveying her, but unsure what he was looking for.

"Oddities? What kind?" Valery asked with a curious tilt of her head. If she was going to spend time out here to relax and keep her mind off of somber things, why not explore a little further? Jared was a typical Starchaser, so he'd know exactly where to go to see more of the Galaxy and its mysterious elements.

Maybe he could even join her if time allowed it.

"I've tried Healers and experts on this stuff. Nothing has worked yet, but I'm not giving up. I just... needed a little break." She turned her gaze to him and looked over the rim of her sunglasses. Seeing him look her over again, Valery perked a brow and tapped her fingers against her abs.

"It's nothing physical you can see. Still the same old me."

"Do you have the coordinates for the Dawn Chaser? We always have jobs aboard that. And some spare fighters?"

"Yeah, I do. Just trying to do everything without Starchaser help. That seems like cheating. Using the family name and credits I didn't earn. Plus, I don't wanna have someone lord something over my head. Like using a fighter then some other Starchaser expecting a favor as repayment and....it could just get messy."

Plus, she wanted to see if this could be done on her own. If there was failure then...it was tail tucked back to the Jedi Academy tucked way in Sanctum territory. Iona couldn't see herself joining the New Jedi Order ; her ideals didn't align with their actions. She wasn't one to fight excessive battles or go off hunting Sith.

"Freelancing is how I make my way around. Taking odd jobs for passage and food really."

The Force User wasn’t always the brightest when it came to other beings. He was the type that when it was in front of him, he knew what he was getting into, plenty of one night or weekend stands on a variety of worlds. Grateful beings, or consoling widows from his various treks. None of them long term. He was a Hunter, and a member of the Underground. He didn’t spend too long on any one world, not until there was a war to be fought.

And even with that? He kept himself removed from everyone, lest they find out his lineage and use it.

Jedi would still come to defend a Starchaser.

“Seen the Aing-Tii, seen some other groups in the Kathol, ones dealing with time, and life and death. Maybe some that can help you.”
The Jedi and their healers were one approach. And while he’d heard of some darker Force techniques and Witch Magick, that could heal, they were definitely dark, even for him.

“I can see that.”
He laughed, trying to deflect his awkwardness.

There was something amusing about seeing someone like Jared turn away like that. She smirked and played around with the straw of her drink between her lips while she considered what he said prior to getting awkward. Perhaps there were some healers or unique techniques out there to help her.

But she wasn't going to find those solutions today.

"I'll look into it soon. Right now, though?" She briefly put aside her drink and reached into her bag to grab some sunscreen, "Right now, I'm going to relax and work on my tan." Valery chuckled. It felt a bit silly to say, but it was a nice thing to focus on something other than war and leading for a while.

"Do you need some, too?" Her hand slowly traced down her leg to apply the sunscreen, before she switched to the other leg and covered her arms as well.

"A tan looks nice, but sunburn not as much."
