SW Fan Film

So my friend and I are making a Star Wars film running on the same timeline as the extended universe stuff. It's actually where Marks character came from here, though moved a couple hundreds of years in the future, and we need any tips you can throw at us. What can we do to make it good, and what can we do to make it Star Wars?

Most of that will be determined on three things:
  • Locations Available
  • Budget
  • People willing to work on it.
To make it a worthwhile enterprise you'll need at least two cameramen, a good suite of video editing software, and some basic talent in costume design. That however is just the visual side of things. You'll need a good script, and the ability to act as well.

Much luck though, I know Chaos will look forward to seeing it.

Back in the early 2000s there was a boom in SW fan films. Some were good, some were corny and terrible, and a special few were exceptional.
I have no knowledge of film making, but the key points are as Evad has mentioned. A good plot and good acting are the most important things. Second is, unfortunately, good effects. If your lightsabres look odd people will turn it off.

Good luck with your project!

Thanks all! Unfortunately enough, it's pretty low budget, but we have some editing software that should work for lightsabers in post production. For those who wish to know, the basic plot line is as follows so a slight spoiler warning for those who don't want it:

About 22 years after the battle of Yavin, Luke Skywalker has established a jedi academy on Yavin IV. Many people have now come to train to be jedi knights, among them, the 14 year old boy, Mark Sage. He was taken in several years ago after being found living alone with traumatic amnesia of an unknown cause and was found to be force sensitive. He was brought into the order and quickly advanced through his training with the others. He also quickly took an interest in archaeology and has studied it since in addition to his training. Now, a breakthrough discovery is in the making. Since the absence of the jedi and all their archives in the great jedi purge, the order's origins have been a mystery. Now, evidence has been found that suggests that the order was first established on the planet Tython near the core. Mark decides to go take a look for himself with his close friend and companion, Jorden Kaigan. They hope to uncover more evidence that this new evidence is true. Unknown to them, something much more sinister is looming on the horizon...

*END SPOILERS*
Anyways, keep sending in those tips and suggestions and thanks again!

That's definitely an interesting plot. I would watch it.
If I could make a suggestion, perhaps have another Jedi with them? To make it seem a bit more official than two Padawans going on an adventure, which makes a bit more sense to me.

Well, it is a fan film. Those typically don't have huge budgets.
From what I've seen, this film has a lot of promise. I wish you luck in making it.

This is pretty much it. Add in a bucket load of passionate people and you're good.

Cool! I'd be happy to take you up on that offer! Jus let me finish brining it together and I'll message you. I warn you I don't have much experience with actual script writing so I can't say it'll be the most professional thing ever. I'm used to books, not screenplays, but I'll let you know when it's pretty much done. Thanks so much for your help!

[member="Mark Sage"] - Since it's a fan production, formatting is a whatever. What matters is what'll affect the film - pacing, logic, dialogue, motivation and stuff. That's what I'd be reading for, anyway. And yeah, send it whenever.
