- Like a Bolt of Lightning: While the WolfX and Blackwolf the XN2-S was built on both carry very respectable weapon complements in their own right, the Nightshrike's new chassis adds an advanced EMPC, capable of unleashing an extremely powerful and destructive plasma projectile, providing a strong anti-capital and air-support capability.
- Out of a Clear Blue Sky: Like the Blackwolf, the Nightshrike is outfitted with advanced stealth technology, allowing them to very capably avoid detection by enemy sensors, sneaking through their defenses like a bolt of lightning can sneak through clear skies to strike at enemies
- Versatile Operations: Designed with a commando unit in mind and so outfitted with systems designed for ultimate modularity, the Nightshrike can be quickly reconfigured for different mission roles, ensuring adaptability in various tactical scenarios.
- Choose your battles: As with its predecessors, the pulse cannons on the Nightshrike are calibrated for engagement at precise distances—250 meters for dogfights and 1 kilometer for ground targets. Mastery in adjusting for engagements beyond these distances is a skill reserved for only the most talented and experienced of X-wing pilots.
- One Ping Only: The Nightshrike's stealth is nullified by the activation of its active sensors or the initiation of broad-spectrum communications. Even narrow, focused communications pose a risk of detection if intercepted by an enemy, transforming the stealth fighter into a beacon in the void, betraying its presence.
- System Complexity: The extensive modularity and advanced systems of the Nightshrike require significant maintenance and technical expertise, making it more prone to operational issues if not properly managed and supported by skilled technicians.
After leaving the GADF due to intrinsic philosophical differences with her commanders, Ari was poached by the SIA to continue development of the program that had alienated her from Starfighter Command in the first place—Project Nightshrike. Drawing inspiration from the historical archives, especially the exploits of Wedge Antilles' famous Wraith Squadron, Ari set forth to put together a team capable of building on and perhaps even one day surpassing those tales. This team would eventually come to be known as Spectre Squadron.
This squadron, however, needed fighters with capabilities beyond what the SIA already had for the sort of operations Ari was envisioning. It was for this reason she set out building and customizing the next evolution of her WolfX concept—the Nightshrikes.
As a seasoned veteran in fighter design, Ari knew she needed versatile, stealthy fighters capable of seamlessly transitioning from conventional and unconventional dogfighting to deep space reconnaissance, electronic warfare, stealth insertions, and a variety of other operations. It was for this reason she made two massive improvements over her previous designs—the inclusion of an Electromagnetic Plasma Cannon and the Adaptive Systems Interface.
The inclusion of the Electromagnetic Plasma Cannon, based on a powerful Umbaran weapon, enhances the Nightshrike's combat capabilities with devastating plasma projectiles. The Adaptive Systems Interface (ASI) was another key improvement, allowing rapid integration of mission-specific systems. This modularity ensures the Nightshrike can be reconfigured swiftly for various roles, including reconnaissance, electronic warfare, stealth insertions, and more, providing unparalleled versatility for Spectre Squadron's diverse operations.
With these advanced features, the Nightshrike stands as a testament to Ari's innovative vision and expertise. Spectre Squadron, equipped with these cutting-edge fighters, is now prepared to undertake the most challenging and diverse operations, ensuring they remain a step ahead in the ever-evolving theater of war.
