STRENGTHS
- Armored Transport: The Talon is outfitted with redundant shields and multi-layered hull plating strong enough to repel a great deal of oncoming energy and kinetic attacks, certainly long enough to land and disgorge its complement of walkers and soldiers.
- Walker Complement: Six AT-OTs and a single AT-SP comprise the ground complement of the Talon, providing the Empire with a swift and easy method to disengorge powerful walkers to and across the battlefield.
- Low Maneuverability: Larger vehicle storage necessitates the reduction of advanced engine systems, rendering the Talon less maneuverable than its counterparts. Miniaturized fuel injectors built into the turbines themselves allow the galleon to achieve greater forward momentum than what was anticipated from a ship of its size and purpose.
- Low Armament: The Talon, while defensively stable, lacks a great deal of offensive weaponry. What weapon systems it does possess are relegated to anti-starfighter, and will require a dedicated escort if besieged by more heavily armed vessels.
Considered to be the connective tissue between the Phi-class Heavy Dropship and Audax-class Cruiser, the Talon-class Star Galleon was a frigate-sized armored transport capable of ferrying a full company of Imperial Legionnaires plus six Rampart walkers and one Siege platform into battle. Above the ground vehicle bay was a fighter hangar that stretched from the portside section of the galleon to the starboard side, in where a full squadron of Imperial fighters could be housed and launched from both hangar entrances. Typically, each half of the squadron would launch from either side simultaneously.
Fast-tracking and fire-linked turbolasers gave the Talon some defense against ships of comparable size, while two point-defense cannons covered an overlapping field of fire directly in front of the galleon but left the rear more vulnerable to fighter attack. This was typically elevated by staggering the convoy of galleons so that the rear line would protect the line in front of it, with smaller anti-fighter corvettes strategically placed to cover the gaps and rear of the whole convoy.
Storage areas separate from the vehicle bays allowed the Talon star galleon to carry upwards of a hundred thousand metric tons of cargo, usually military munitions, food rations, and anything else considered logistically important for the galleon, its crew, and its vehicle complement.
