TFA Question

Akira Kono

Trapped in the Past or Yearning for the Future?
I would think so, however, there's the question of who the mother would be--not to mention the lack of recognition from Kylo Ren that he had a cousin. You would think that if it were Luke's daughter, and Luke trained Kylo, that there would be some kind of knowledge there.

There's also the, sort of, recognition that Han has about Rey after she handles herself when they first meet.

Other than that: no effing clue, dude.

She got dumped on a desert planet with nothing. If that's Luke's idea of parenting we are in serious trouble. :D

That said, makes sense. He was training Jedi, his nephew turned to darkness under his watch and in order to protect his child he hid her on a secluded planet shortly after he vanished from the known galaxy.

If his wife/mother of Rey was pregnant when Kylo fell to darkness or if she was an infant its possible Kylo didn't know about her. Luke might have sensed him falling and kept Rey secret, much like how he was kept secret from Vader. It worked once, it will work again you know.

Granddaughter. They mentioned it during the bar scene.
That would make his child a teen mom at the very best. Its only been 30 years since Endor and he wasn't hooking up a lot in that time period.

She's clearly a skywalker.

In her vision you can hear Obi-Wan and Yoda all stating "Rey, you have taken your first steps."
For Obi-Wan and Yoda to be involved she had to be a Skywalker, the entire series revolves around them.

Be it that she is Luke's daughter or Leia's she is a Skywalker, my bet is on Leia's, not through Han however. Put on Jakku by Luke after Ren started killing off the Jedi. The reason there is no 'I'm your mother' talk in the movie is simply that at no point does anyone mention to Leia that Rey came from Jakku. She rocks up in the falcon after being rescued from Starkiller. That is it, a knowing stare at the end perhaps but no knowledge of who she is.

They are setting up the Jacen/Jaina story plot in my opinion.

Then again I swear if they make Luke say. "They never told you what happened to your father." "Rey, I am your father." In the next movie I will completely loose it!

Just my opinions.

I highly doubt Rey is Leia's daughter, kept secret from Han. It seems entirely out of place for her character. It would make no sense. I also don't think she is Luke's daughter. Reason being her and Kylo are pretty close in age, and had they been cousins, they would have known about each other during their childhood, since it was established that Luke & Han kept in contact until Kylo betrayed the new Order and Luke vanished. Kylo would have known Rey, and certainly would have recognized her when he saw her again.

I really hope not. Is there something wrong with introducing a new family of heroes (and/or villains) or something? Are only the Skywalkers somehow capable of taking on leading roles in the freaking galaxy?

The next movie better not have her be the daughter of Luke or I will gag.

Like, please, not everyone in a new movie has to have a familial connection to the protagonists of the previous story. To me it just cheapens everything.

I could be wrong (I know...hard to believe) but when Kylo was searching in Rey's mind, he says:

"You've been so lonely. So afraid to leave. At night, desperate to sleep, you'd imagine an ocean. I can see it...I can see the island."

And she grew up on a planet without water.

And she finds Luke on...an island.

And there's still the trailer voiceover where Luke talks of the Force being strong in his family.

I thought I would just add my two cents into this, as I just watched star wars and am afraid of how bad science died. The star killer ate two suns! How is the solar system of that galaxy ever going to have elliptical orbits ever again we got rid of one sun and relocated the second one. As for the Luke daughter talk I think we already have had enough Skywalker bad parenting to last us the next four generations.

I think she's Luke's daughter - the saber calls to her. And it would make sense that after his failure of teaching Ren that he would be so distraught that he wouldn't want to influence her badly. So history repeats itself when she's left to be raised by someone else on Jakku,

Another thing to note: Leia seems to know who she is. Let's be honest, if your friends had gone to rescue this girl, and then she turns up at your base afterwards, is the first thing you'd do would be to give her a hug? Seemed a little more personal, moreso than perhaps was warranted by...certain events.
