That Part Is Upside Down

She wondered for a moment. Could she do this? Could she pull it off and find out something new about herself? Discover a talent that was apparently both rare, and genuinely useful to the Jedi Order?

Or would she simply turn out to be another disappointed.

Sheepishly, Lira reached out and touched the starfighter. At first, nothing happened. The metal of the fighter felt cold, the durasteel plating sucking the warmth from her hand almost instantly. The feeling from her palm quickly vanished, and suddenly she found herself losing feeling in her hand, then her arm, then her entire body.

A dark feeling overtook her, numbness that she had never felt before.

Her head began to spin, her legs shaking, her spine tingling. An overwhelming feeling of unwariness crossed over her entire body and she felt as though she were about to fall down onto the ground. She held onto the side of the ship, but her legs gave way like broken wood.

Daeryd caught her. The lumbering Mechanic moved surprisingly swiftly and with his big bulky arms her managed to keep Lira on her feet. He shot her an odd look, and Knight Elspeth rushed over to her side almost immediately, the same look of concern on her face that Daeryd was showing. Both their eyes searched Lira up and down for scars or wounds, signs of anything that might have effected her and caused her to fall.

The Padawan simply lay in Daeryds arms for a moment, her hands sliding off the ship and her composure slowly recovering. She managed to push herself to her feet, steadying herself in place and letting out a deep breath.

“It's...it's the landing struts isn't it?” She said the words tired and staggered, as if she was worn out. “There's something wrong with the landing struts of the ship. They won't retract while in flight.”

That was a big problem for a ship that was meant to break atmospheres and space. It would produce quite a bit of drag when flying through the air and when breaching the atmosphere it would likely hurtle the ship into thousands of tiny individual pieces, not exactly what you wanted when you were a pilot.

Daeryd and Bethany grinned about as wide as they possible could, both adults looked like foolish children for a moment.

“Aye lass. Its the struts.

So she had done it.

Though she had no idea how.

The only thing she had done was touch the ship, then tap into a little bit of the force. The next moment she had felt as though the ship and herself were whole. Everything that ailed the vessel had been taken on to herself. The scratches in its hull, the slight warp in its left laser cannon, the threatening crack in its canopy, and its broken landing strut. She had felt each individual problem with the vessel.

Yet she had also felt its personality. Lira had sensed what the ship was good at, where it excelled, how it should be properly controlled and tamed to get the best result.

What she did not get was a blueprint. She had not seen how the ship was made up, nor had she seen all of its individual parts. The Padawan thought to herself that perhaps with practice, she could do all that, and perhaps even more. When she shared that thought with Daeryd he only grinned and said.

“Aye Lass, practice.”
