Intent: To provide a great weapon platform for law enforcement and anyone else in the Republic military or law fields who want one.
Development Thread: no
Hero Unit: No
Manufacturer: Kylos Arms
Model: All Purpose Rifles Series
Affiliation: Republic Law Enforcement
Modularity: Yes
Production: Minor
Material: Durasteel, duraplast
Description: The top line in Kylos rifles, the APR-5 or better known by its sales designation “The 5th patriot”. While the factory designation of the APR-5 was completely coincidental, the sales name was adopted as a cleaver use of the coincidence. During the weapons preliminary stages it was made out to be the ultimate in firearms, making all other blaster rifles look like garbage. Right before the initial release, a sales representative came up with an idea to make the weapon system sound even more powerful and appealing. He proposed the rifle be called “The 5th Patriot”, a reference to the 5th article, sometimes called the 5th patriotic act during teachings of history at the latter part of the darkness, of the New Republic Charter (now the old Republic by today’s standards) that allowed the Chief of Staff to declare war on any known enemy. The weapon was to be released for public sales, but the military and police forces quickly signed a contract with Kylos to limit the weapon to their use. However, some have still managed to slip past these restrictions.

The weapon utilizes a unique bulpup design where the cartridge feed is in the back of the weapon. This is not all; however, the weapon features a system that allows the use of two separate ammunitions at the same time, not at once of course. Gas cartridges are fed into the bottom of the rifle for your standard ionized gas rounds that pack massive punch as a pose to snipe accuracy and range. These ionized gas bolts are fired from a built in under barrel that takes training to use with accuracy. The stock of the weapon holds a secondary feed system for energy bolts that, while are much less powerful than the gas rounds, are much more accurate which makes up for the lack of massive power. These energy bolts are fired through the top barrel of the weapon which is slightly longer than its brother below it. Also in the back is an emergency venting system located right in front of the battery pack storage. This vent is wired to an array of sensors that will open the valve if signs of overheating or malfunction become apparent; this is why the stock of the rifle is slightly higher than the vent as to protect the user from burn injuries. The rest of the stock is made from a light duraplast and insulation to protect the user from any heat that may radiate of the battery pack, as well as shock absorbers to take some of the recoil out of the weapon.

Other innovations include a grip that is interchangeable to accommodate a hide variety of under barrels, such as grenade launchers or slug throwers, or handles for increased accuracy. There is also a small, round lever in the back that notifies the user of the batteries charge and below that is a small digital counter for the amount of gas rounds remaining. Perhaps the most important technique used in the creation of this weapon is its very stringent use of durasteel. The entire frame is made up of a reinforced durplast with only essential working made of durasteel. This major design impacts the weight greatly, making it much lighter than the all durasteel alternative that would make the weapon impractically heavy due to its design.

Classification: Blaster
Size: Handheld
Status: Limited (Law Enforcement & Military)
Length: 9.6 centimeters (I think my math is right, I’m going for about 29 inches)
Weight: 6 kilograms
Ammunition Type: Power Cell & Gas Canister
Ammunition Capacity: Gas Canister = 50 rounds & Energy Cell = 400 rounds
Range: Gas Barrel = 400meters & Energy Cell = 1,000meters

Would you mind framing this in Star Wars terms? Which is a blaster bolt? Both? Is one, perhaps, a disruptor?

I'd say the gas barrel is more of a traditional blaster bolt, the top barrel is slightly a cross between disruptor and blaster bolt. It can still have massive power against shields and droids but still packs an punch equivalent to 308. sniper, for organics, in today's terms.
