Following Darth Strosius death at the Kaggath, Lina procured a portion of his ashes from the arena along with his mask. Though she held no deep connection to the self-proclaimed Emperor, the power she had witnessed in the Kaggath warranted further investigation.
As well as this, she had become fond of his apprentice in the short time she'd been able to spend with her and intended on making the vial as a keepsake for the girl to remember him by.
Her study of the ashes revealed that even in death, his ashes were potent in the dark side of the force, remnants of his signature clinging to them. Several experiments unveiled that the ashes themselves could be used to amplify her sorcery but also that the mere presence of them seemed to draw a deeper connection to the dark side.
Lina theorised, that it would probably be possible to use the ashes themselves to connect with the dead Sith Lord, but her deepening connection with the nether meant she was unwilling to try so soon and bring the ire of a Force Ghost into her own life. Especially one with so much unfinished business.
