Character
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
The War Mynock is the personal creation and pet project of Thova 'Mdanam, Shipmaster within the Bryn'adul military. After dealing with the problem of Mynock's on one of his return trips to Caerdar, he had the idea of weaponizing the rather common and, most of the time, harmless creatures. He set himself to the task of understanding the diminutive beasts, and in time, with the help of Clan 'Mdanam biologists and scientists, was able to create the War Mynock.
Engineered as a weapon of attritional and terror warfare, the War Mynock is intended to be deployed deep inside enemy held territory. Once there, the colonies will quickly breed and expand, before beginning the process the Mynocks are best known for, but with a much more violent twist. When feasting on a ships energy supply, the Mynock will inadvertently activate a helium bomb placed within them, and when the protective coating is burned away by the electrical currents flowing through its body, the bomb will detonate in a sudden and violent chemical reaction. The War Mynocks are designed to weaken enemy supply lines by attacking civilian vessels, forcing increased patrols of military vessels, and spreading a sense of fear over a threat they cannot fully understand.
The tactic serves two primary purposes. Firstly, it sows chaos and confusion among an enemies populace, who will hear reports of ships suddenly vanishing far away from the front lines in territory once thought safe. At the same time, it will force enemy military vessels to be diverted from the front line for routine patrol duties, hunting for a threat that is killing its ships and people. This allows the Bryn'adul to weaken their foe in military, logistical, and moral without risking a single Bryn'adul ship or soldier.
- Intent: To create a new creature for use by the Bryn'adul
- Canon: Mynock
- Permissions: N/A
- Links: N/A
- Name: War Mynock
- Designation: Non-Sentient
- Origins: Galaxy-Wide
- Average Lifespan: 4 years theoretically, One Month in reality
- Estimated Population: Scattered
- Description: The War Mynock is a relatively new creation of the Bryn'adul war effort to sow further destruction across the galaxy. War Mynocks are genetically altered variants of the species, with the only noticeable difference between the War Mynock and standard Mynocks being their size. A War Mynock tends to be about half the size of a regular Mynock, and with a slightly darker skin coloration, though few people ever get that close to find out.
- Breathes: Type IV
- Average Height of Adults: .4 Meters
- Average Length of Adults: .7 Meters
- Skin color: Brown, Grey, Tan
- Hair color: N/A
- Distinctions: There is almost no difference between male and female War Mynock's, with the only tangible difference being the slightly larger size of females. In terms of skin tones, they vary wildly across the species due to extensive cross breeding by the Bryn'adul gene masters.
- Races:
- Tor-Mynock: The Tor-Mynock is the "tamed" version of the War Mynock, and the least common variant. These War Mynocks are bred in captivity to serve as guided projectile weapons by the Bryn'adul in battle. In these battles, they are fired in a pod towards empty space before ejecting the creatures. There, they are guided by a low band radio signal towards their designated targets. They will latch on to the target ship and begin to feast. After a certain time, the electrical currents flowing through their bodies will melt the protective coating around the helium organ they contain in their bodies, leading to a highly explosive detonation on enemy hulls.
- Vor-Mynock: The Vor-Mynock is the wild variant of the War Mynock. Unlike the Tor-Mynock, the Vor-Mynock's are deployed out in space to create their own colonies. They are placed at key shipping lanes of enemy fleets, noted staging grounds or anchorages, and let loose to reproduce and feast at their own pace. Vor-Mynock colonies can spread rapidly, quickly becoming an infestation if not properly addressed, and their explosive hunger cycle can lead to wide spread devastation among civilian and military vessels far from Bryn'adul territory.
- Force Sensitivity: Force Dead
- Explosive: The War Mynock have been genetically engineered to become far more dangerous when they consume their natural energy based food source. Helium reserves have been created inside the War Mynock's body, carefully developed to have a protective coating around them to prevent the War Mynock from premature detonations. The electrical currents that flow through their bodies will slowly melt this protective coating, and after a certain point, the highly concentrated helium within will detonate inside the War Mynocks body, creating an explosion capable of crippling starfighters, and severely damaging capital ships if deployed in a swarm.
- Hard Target: The small size of the War Mynock makes them difficult targets for ship born defenses to properly target and eliminate, and their swarm tactics against prey vessels allow them to overwhelm craft not well suited to point defense.
- Thin Skinned: The War Mynock has nothing in the way of defenses for it other than its small size and swarm tactics. Even a low level grazing shot has the potential to kill the small creatures. Shrapnel explosions could potentially eliminate entire swarms.
- Planetary Atmospheres: Like their standard Mynock cousins, the War Mynock is incapable of entering a planets atmosphere with any degree of success. Their hyper allergic reaction to helium brought on by their genetic tampering means they are unable to enter even the upper most levels of a planets atmosphere, and going through it with War Mynocks intact with score them off without causing their natural detonations.
- Diet: Electrical Energy
- The War Mynock is capable of surviving for a standard month without needing to feed, a time usually spent growing to full maturity after birth.
- Communication: The War Mynock have no discernable language
- Technology level: No Technology
- Religion/Beliefs: No Religion/Beliefs
- General behavior: War Mynocks live in colonies of several hundred individuals, based around a matriarch War Mynock. The matriarch is capable of producing hundreds of live offspring every month, a necessary trait given the extremely shot life span of the War Mynock. Each female that is born has the potential to become a matriarch, and when a colony grows too large they will often leave to create a new colony with a few attendant males.
