The Cleansing of Corbos
rafal-banasiak-mining-facility.jpg

Basic Information: Corbos
Our Enemies (Objectives I, II): Leviathans.

As the Empire moves to rebuild, reorganize, and rearm for their war against the Tingle Arm Coalition in the aftermath of the battles of Lothal and Mon Calamari, there has been an increased need for critical strategic resources, particularly high-grade ore for use in military vehicles and starships. Corbos, a planet on the edge of the Imperial space, is rumored to have ample quantities of this, albeit with the significant drawback of the planet seeing the return of the Leviathans who have chased off all settlers and attempted prospectors from the world, and pirate activity, rumored to be originating from a nearby asteroid base. In addition, it is said that the Grand Inquisitor herself has discovered records on Ossus indicating a potential trove of artifacts and information from the Hundred Year Darkness, which could prove crucial in giving the Empire's force wielders an upper hand against its foes. Claim Corbos for the glory of the Empire and in the name of the Empress!

Objective I: Recover the Artifacts.
iu

Deep in an abandoned mineshaft it is rumored that there is still a secure vault guarded by ancient battledroids which holds an as-yet-to-be-determined amount of artifacts, books, and even weapons left over from the Hundred Year Darkness. This must be recovered and returned to Ossus for further study and investigation. Secure the vault and find a way to bring its contents to the surface for extraction. Careful, it is rumored that it lies adjacent to a Leviathan nest-it would be best not to disturb them.

Objective II: Cleanse it with Fire.
iu

The mines are the principal reason for taking control of the planet, but have been rendered unusable by the planet's large Leviathan infestation. It is absolutely crucial that they be reclaimed and secured so that the flow of ore to the Empire can begin. Seize control of the mines, cleanse the abominations in and surrounding them, and then set up shield generators to keep them out so that our miners can work in peace. It has been noted by several Imperial scientists that fire is a particularly effective way to handle them, so bringing incendiary grenades or flamethrowers would be a good idea.
Objective III: Remove the Pirates.

iu

Since the Empire is putting in a significant amount of time and effort into securing Corbos, it needs to ensure that its ore reaches Lianna and the core worlds to be further refined into various metals and composites without harassment. There appears to be a significant pirate problem in the area as it has been devoid of any ruling polity for far too long, set up in an asteroid base not too far from the planet. It is rumored that they have grown quite strong, with several cruisers and other capital ships and an array of strikecraft. Strike a deal with them to move on or eliminate them for the glory of the Empire.

Gen checked over her weapons, carry two blaster pistols and a slug thrower machine gun. She felt a bit naked without out her rifle but they were going to be exploring mine shafts so that meant closer quarters and there was no need for such a hefty weapon taking up space. She also had some knives on her in case there was any fighting that got to close. She would be around people so she had to remind herself she couldn't use any of her special abilities on this trip.

With her weapons checked, her armor and green coat secured she pulled out a datapad and looked over the mission details once more. They were on the hunt for artifacts, specifically force ones. God her mother and uncle would love this kind of adventure, granted both would plan it, talk about the loot they would get, and be passed out drunk on a cantina floor before doing anything. It would just bore Gen and her twin sister to death, plus they were always the ones dragging their mother and uncle back to the ship after their benders.

Actually, a drink would be nice right about now, maybe then she would be a little more excited. Artifacts only led to disaster and misfortune she knew that too from experience. The one force artifact in her possession was well hidden for the trouble it could cause. Even though she found the thought of artifact hunting boring, she hoped they would find nothing and luckily the odds were usually in favor of finding nothing. Most artifact claims where just that rumors or old legends with no real substance behind them.

Tella had to admit that she was not a fan of the current mission. She was far from enthusiastic about going into mines and feeling trapped underground in general, much less when those mines contained nightmarish abominations of Sith Alchemy that could suck the life force right out of you if you were not careful, the Force knows whatever sick defenses the Dark Jedi of the Hundred Year Darkness had put in place to protect their store of knowledge, and the general hazards of going into a mine that had been abandoned for decades if not centuries. It was a bad assignment that could easily go wrong in a myriad of ways and she felt like her mother was getting back at her for her antics over in Bestine, which she had been chewed out for because Inquisitors were not supposed to involve themselves in adventures far out in the middle of nowhere much less get into major fights.

That, and this information trove is crucial for discovering how to build "it" which is the key to restoring our power and influence.

She sighed, waiting for the arrival of her assistants and comrades at the entrance of the mine, leaning up against the ancient, secured rusted gate. There was a little bit of silver lining though, the new Inquisitor armor had been finished, and she loved it. Comparatively lightweight, comfortable, stylish, with a variety of systems and a good level of overall protection, it felt like a snug safety blanket around her. The only downside to it was that she had to eat a lot more than she was comfortable with, but that was a small price to pay in order to not die or become crippled.

Objective III: Remove the Pirates

The Gorskin dropped out of hyperspace alongside twelve Z-95 Headhunters. The ship's Tactical Pods were, for now, still docked to its docking carousel. The small drop ships were not quite the equal of headhunters in a dogfight, but they were capable reserve craft if more bones had to be thrown into the void.

Box Mattox sat in the command chair on the bridge of the Gorskin, rubbing his temple where he'd been shot earlier in the year. Although the damage caused by the sniper's bullet had been healed, phantom pain still irked him on occasion. Usually just before an engagement.

"Issue identification to any Imperial ships present. Let them know we were hired by Moff Maldor Mecetti. I don't want our forces to be mistaken for the pirates we're hunting today."

Lieutenant Lala 'Songbird' Freydis nodded and issued a snappy "Aye, Sir. Transmitting FOF identifiers now, along with a greeting."

Box nodded, "Once that's out of the way, put our heads on a swivel. Active sensor sweeps. We're not hiding our presence, but neither do we want these pirates to hide theirs. Light 'em up. Let 'em know they're lit. As soon as they're detected, advise me and I'll offer them a chance to leave before we start carving them like some Life-Day Bantha Surprise."

"Yes, Sir. No contacts yet. Will advise."

Severon stood at the steps of his craft, flanked by two officers. The moment his boots touched the ground, he could feel the crunch of sand and mining debris beneath him. One officer immediately broke off to rally the soldiers under his command, while the other moved to a different ship to coordinate the offloading of shield generators.

The Dicentis had given clear orders, Severon was to ally with the Imperials and offer the men and factories of the Legio in support of their cause. Though Severon didn't like the decision, he would obey the witches. The eternal flame was never wrong.

As he approached the mine's entrance, he cast a glance over its darkened exterior. One of his officers returned and spoke up.

"The men are ready. We've placed the flame units at the front," the officer reported, eyes glued to the board in his hands. "We're just waiting on your signal to move into the caves."

Severon's gaze shifted to the line of soldiers, neatly assembled but murmuring amongst themselves. One soldier in the front was showing off with his flame unit, brandishing it with a grin as his comrades egged him on. Though he stopped and returned to attention as Severon approached the front.

"The Leviathans took the mines," Severon declared, his voice sharp and cold. "We will burn them out." With that, he raised a hand, signaling them to advance.

His officer immediately bellowed orders. "Flame units up front! One behind the other, when you run dry, pull behind the other to reload!" With those commands, the soldiers began their march towards the mine's entrance.

A few hours before landing.
Rorsch looked through the bridge's glasteel viewport of the Tacitus-Class onto the sight of the brown planet before him. He was excited, he had just received the newest batch of storm walkers from the imperial foundries and was taking them on a hunting mission. Leviathans. He had read the dossier on them and was aware of their vulnerability to fire and had requested his walkers be loaded 50:50 with high explosive shells and firestorm rounds. He also outfitted each squad of troopers he was bringing with incendiary grenades and at least two flamethrowers.

"Major General, the walkers have been outfitted with the artillery you requested." said the Armor Captain, "and the stormtrooper company has been equipped with incendiary measures. all we await is descending into the atmosphere and the Storks will do the rest."

Rorsch turned around and looked at the captain, "Excellent work. Have my armor ready when we reach the hangar." He looked towards the control center on the bridge, "Commander, take us down."

"Aye Sir."

Landing on the Planet.
The loud hydraulics hissed as the doors to the stork landing craft opened revealing the barren wasteland before them. As he stepped out from the craft he placed his helmet under his arm, he saw Severon Valgor Severon Valgor 's craft and troops readying to march close by. Well, he thought, I might as well introduce myself and talk tactics. He looked over his shoulder to the captain following him.

"Captain, ready the troops. Have the combat IFVs and troopers take up defensive positions."

There was a hardy Yes Sir followed by the echoing of orders being yelled back into the craft. He approached Valgor's troops and asked who their commanding officer was and pointed him in the direction of the Captain. He approached, "Greetings, I am Major General Rosch of the 327th. What tactics have you devised to deal with the leviathan threat?"

Alasdair, for his part, arrived soon after the other two commanders, arriving with three full companies of Storm Commandos and their associated equipment, who immediately began to file out to fulfill their preplanned objective-securing a defensive perimeter around the mines, so that any Leviathans which attacked from the forests or the plains could not trap the Imperial forces seeking to burn them out of their underground lairs. Trenches began to be dug, electrified wire and shields began to be laid down, fire positions for heavy weapons such as rocket launchers, repeating blasters, and numerous other prefabricated defensive fortifications such as bunkers, all in a timely and organized manner. If he had it his way, those monsters would have a hell of a time flanking them.

The Commodore, who also held the equivalent land rank Brigadier General, moved swiftly to meet Major General Rorsch and the other captain, flanked by his personal squad of Death Troopers who were there to ensure no matter what happened, the son of Aculia Voland Aculia Voland would get out of there alive. While doing so, he confirmed that his air assets were available, with numerous squadrons of TIE Bombers on standby in the event they needed serious air support, a perk of his connections with the Imperial Navy. When he finally arrived, he waited patiently for the Captain the Major General was addressing to respond, not daring to interrupt a superior's questions merely to introduce himself.

Severon's eyes locked onto the approaching figure, and as the man neared, Severon raised a finger, directing one of his officers with a gesture towards his feet before stepping forward to meet the stranger. The officer took the cue, immediately assuming control and barking orders to the soldiers, "Keep moving!" The march continued toward the cave entrance, where the men halted under the officer's further instruction.

The man spoke, and Severon returned the greeting with a deep nod as a salute to the superior rank. "Greetings General, our plan is to beat the beasts to the surface. We'll box them out of the mines with our generators and challenge them on open ground." His voice was cold and strategic. Severon expected that the creatures would be brutes, would likely fall prey to their whims of superior size, making them predictable. This advantage was lost in the mines, it was their domain, their size would be unbeatable in the more limited spaces. The beasts knew the darkness far better than any outsider. Drawing them out would give the Empire's war machines a clear advantage.

Severon's gaze shifted, scanning the General's equipment and positions. Deep trenches would have been his choice if he were commanding here, though he assumed the General would not condemn the men who returned to the surface to facing the beasts like Severon would. "Shall you be cutting them down as they emerge?" Severon asked, glancing at the newcomer, who also wore the insignia of a higher rank. He offered the same respectful nod as a salute.

"If you wish to descend into the caves with us, I would advise against it. Someone of your standing need not be unnecessarily lost. We are expecting loses." Severon said, his voice without a hint of emotion. He had already studied the cave system, identifying dangerous points, loose walls, narrow passages to be ambushed, and areas vulnerable to collapse. The true danger of the beasts was unknown to both Severon and his men, as they had never faced creatures like these before.

Rorsch listened to the captain's words. It was a sound strategy that gave the Imperials here a clear advantage. He slightly turned his head to catch Alasdair's eye as he approached behind him, he would acknowledge his presence in a moment.

"You're correct, Captain." He said in his smooth monotonous voice, "I'll have my force split to watch the mines and our backs against the forest." He pressed a few buttons on his bracers sending orders to his units. Eight of his sixteen walkers, followed by an additional two platoons of stormtroopers and four IFVs began moving alongside Captain Valgo's troopers.

"Fire. The beasts are weak to it. My armored units have been equipped with firestorm rounds and high explosive shells. The first and second platoons will assist your strategy. Waiting."

Rorsch turned to Alasdair, his glasses-covered eyes looking him over, "General Voland, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance." Rorsch had heard that Alasdair was to join him during this mission. "We were just discussing strategy as you arrived. Have you anything to add?"

In the middle of Alasdair speaking, the General's wrist-mounted commlink began to blink. "Excuse me, please continue." He would walk a few steps away before answering.

"Captain?"

"Sir, as the storks were heading back they spotted a pod heading to our position, three of the beasts. Staggered, the first one will reach us in ten minutes. Then twelve, then fourteen."

"Have third and fourth platoons move into position guarding the forest. I'll be there shortly."

"Aye, Sir."

He turned back around, to Severon and Alasdair. "Beasts are approaching staggered from the forest. ETA ten minutes. Captain Valgor proceed with your plan, I will slaughter them." He began to walk away before turning back after placing his helmet on his head, "General Voland. I trust that I do not need to order you. I have heard great things, and expect them." He continued to walk before he was met by one of his Storm Walkers, it turned around and lowered a line to the General. He put his foot in the hoop at the end of it and grasped it as he rose to the rear door of the vehicle. He spoke over comms,

Krix Folla did not like the fleet that the Psi Star’s sensor operators had sighted within the electrotelescopes one bit.

“Thisss isss it?” The Trandoshan pirate captain hissed as he stood up from his chair and adjusted his ill-fitting tricorne-style hat, which was nearly falling off of his horned skull. “Thisss is all that thessse Imperialsss could mussster?” He questioned, his beady gaze falling over the scrambling bridge crew, who couldn’t believe what they were seeing as well. And indeed, not one soul aboard the Psi Star or any of its escort corvettes had anticipated a showing as paltry as this. From what Krix had heard, the Empire had taken a beating at Mon Cala and Lothal, but they had still ended up winning the battles.

Surely then, the Imperials had something more up their sleeve. What were they hiding?

“Sensorsss, give it to me again. How many shipsss are we ssseeing?”

“Uhhh…sir, umm…one corvette-sized troop transport and a squadron of fighters!" The sensor officer, a diminutive blue-furred Chadra-Fan answered. “Uhh…they’re also appear to be scanning in our direction…sir!” The rodent-like pirate added.

“Are they in torpedo range?” Krix questioned, his features twitching with equal parts annoyance and consternation as he did.

“Uhh…not yet sir! But they will be soon! I think that—”

“Then let’sss get them in range!” Krix roared. “Helm, bring usss ahead, ssslowly. Commsss, get on the line and tell our essscortsss to set a screen againssst those starfightersss! Have one on our aft to cover our enginesss, another under our keel, and the other two holding at port and starboard. And engineersss…” Krix paused then, contemplating his next course of action. He could not believe that the Imperials had brought just this tiny mercenary fleet to engage him. And yet, all material indications pointed to them being alone.

But his instincts told him otherwise.

“Shunt all excessss power to sensorsss and ssset them to maximum output, rapid pulssse. Evacuate all non-critical areasss and turn off life support in them, if necessary.

The Imperialsss think they are clever. Playing a game. But their tacticsss are too obviousss. They have ssstealth shipsss active. We will draw them from the void and hunt them down.”

Objective 2: Cleanse in Fire

Damn, did he miss this.

Flying into the unknown inside one of these bad boys, huddled together with his brothers, awaiting the drop-off to start the engagement,

After so long, he had nearly forgotten the feeling.

Course, couldn't forget why there here, he was to get in contact with some associates, Commodore Alasdair Voland and Major General Rorsch, in clearing out some mines with some precious ores filled with what could be only described as abominations with a recommendation to bring plenty of Flame-Throwers.

Luckily, The empire provided plenty, With Each Company consisting of 10 troops trained and wielding a Flame-Thrower.

Still, probably wanted to check-in

"We in communication range?"

He asked the pilot with a casual tone

"Yes sir, we are in range of ally communication."

He nodded before patching in the frequency with the comm on his helmet, speaking with a bit more of a serious tone.

"This is CT-9219, Codename "Hawk", approaching the back entrance to the mines, preparing for operation manuevers, see you on the ground."

As the LAATs prepared to land in a clear space, he turned his comm to the frequency of his soldier's comms as he turned to face them, his tone a mixed between relaxed and confident

"Alright, so just in case you all forgot why were here in the last 20 seconds, I'll make it brief, We're here to clear out some mines filled with what I could only describe as freaks of nature, now just in case you don't know how to deal with them, I want to use to point that flamethrower and hold the trigger down until it looks like a pile of smoldering ash than an actual thing, as for the rest of you, same deal, shoot till it stops moving, then shoot it again just in case. and if you still feel like that thing is moving, put a grenade in it's head."

The LAAT shuttered and the doors opened, revealing the mine entrance which had surprisingly been surrounded by trees, guess years of non-use allowed nature to heal. he turned to his assistant and troops in the operation, addressing them with his usual casual tone

"Alright Kids, stick close to one another, make sure not to wander off, and leave nothing standing."

he prepared one platoon to enter the cave, making sure to switch his DC-17M to blaster mode. He ordered the others would act as rear guards, in case any freaks attempted to sneak up on them, but not before contacting his associates.

"This is Hawk, entering back up mine entrance now, gonna see what we're dealing with here, see you when I see you."

He and his troops started to enter the cave, mentally preparing for the horrors within.

The signals officer spoke up from her station, "We're getting hits on sensors, and we're getting lit up in return. I'm reading... four patrol boats, one proper corvette. Phalanx classes and one Hellstorm class, unless I miss my guess. They're pouring on the sensors. If you thought you were being loud, that's nothing on what they're doing now."

Box's second, Commander Chardon, chuckled, "They probably can't believe this is all that was sent against them."

Box considered that. Chardon might have been joking, but he was probably right. Box himself had expected more Imperial presence here. But when you were a hired gun, you were often given too few resources to get a job done. It was the nature of the business. You had to improvise.

But if the enemy thought the situation was too good to be true...

"Dump our trash," Box ordered.

There was a momentary hesitation. "Sir?" Chardon asked.

"Dump our trash, now," Box repeated, and then added, "Dump a handful of remote-detonable charges, too."]

His orders were carried out. Soon, an assortment of detritus and debris was flushed from the rear of the ship. Metal bits and bobs, defunct components, assorted garbage. It tumbled into the void, creating many dozens of irregular signal returns on sensors. In the midst of it all, a dozen explosives with remote detonators floated, inserted among the junk.

Anyone who wasn't particularly suspicious would recognize that Box had just dumped his non-recyclables.

But someone paranoid about hidden ships might see their worst fears teased at...

"Open a channel," he ordered, then, "this is Captain Maddox of the registered mercenary ship Gorskin, on contract with the Imperial Navy. You have one minute to evacuate your positions. Otherwise, you will be reduced to your constituent components."

After the channel was cut, he turned to the signals officer, "Are they targeting the trash?"

If they were, it would divide their attention between his real forces and a bunch of sensor ghosts.

And that would be just the sort of break he needed against these odds.

Alasdair waited patiently as the other two officers talked briefly, taking the time to remove a small holoprojector from his pocket and hold it in his hands. When Rorsch addressed him, he nodded and flicked it on, a holographic projection of the immediate area, and began to show where his three companies of Storm Commandos would be set up.

"We did the best we could with the limited deployment time we had, and since time is short, I will just provide a brief overview. My men and I will assist in holding the outside of the mines as we anticipate that quite a few, perhaps the majority of the Leviathans, are actually out hunting during the day as they need a significant amount of biomass to sustain themselves and that is not often found underground. We have set up three trench networks in a perimeter around the central mines where our men will move into the cave, with anti-tank mines laid down outside since these monsters are too large for anti-personnel ones. Behind those will be electrified wires, which while we are under no delusion will stop the creatures it will likely stun or enrage them enough that they fall into the hidden stake trench we have set up."

Alasdair paused, removing a small flask of water from his coat, drinking it, and then continuing.

"That will hopefully give time for our boys in the main trenches to light them up with flamethrowers, incendiary grenades, and more. If the situation in the trenches becomes untenable we have set up a fallback trench next to our heavy weapon bunkers being set up here, which will surround this command tent. For the bunkers we have gone with a mixture of incendiary missiles, heavy flamethrowers, and anti-tank autocannons to provide support at long, medium, and close ranges."

Gesturing to a small tech station being set up to the left of the commanders, he nodded.

"We can call close air support in from this terminal. While a little long in the tooth these days with the evolving threats on the battlefield, the
War Hawks still serve well in a ground attack role, and should be more than enough to provide heavy firepower against the Leviathans should we need it."

G5EsBky.png

Finishing his briefing, he saluted his superior general and the Captain as they made their separate ways while he continued to plot in his command tent. They seemed competent enough, and should be, otherwise they would have never made it to their ranks under Aculia or Velran. Say what one would about the latter, he did not seem the one to brook failures. Confident as he was in their plans and forces, he was still alert as he surveyed the preparations and conferred with his subordinate officers-no plan ever survived contact with the enemy, and he would be ready to adjust it as necessary.

Darth Rasnuhl knew that he was going to not be the first to arrive on the scene to deal with the pirates. Usually there were a few of the fleet commanders in any given engagement... but this time getting the three new ships took long than anticipated.

Standing on the bridge of the bridge of the RDF Shadow the ships mostly black hull with two burgundy stripes, along with numerous not solid white stripes ever present. Looking closer one would see the white as runes written in both ancient Sith & in Zabrak. Darth Rasnuhl paced in full military attire as the stars still streaked by as white streaks upon the bluishness come to an end.

The seven ships dropped out with the RDF Shadow at the lead in a wedge with the raiders interspersed. The bridge goes into a flurry of activity as the crew take in all the data being processed. The female Zabrak Comms officer yells out "Lord Rasnuhl, the IFF says Box Mattox Box Mattox is here on our side. Along with five small enemy corvettes and a station near the astroid field. Orders?"

Darth Rasnuhl thinks a moment before opening the comm line to Box Mattox "Hello Mr Mattox, nice to be on the same side this go around. I have brought More than sufficient power. Bring me up to speed on what has transpired please." Mattox was a professional and Darth Rasnuhl respected his reputation.

The mines were as expected for some long-abandoned mines infested by some force-forsaken creatures

Dank, dark, and practically empty (for now anyway)

He figured most leviathans were deeper in the cave or dealing with Roland's little defense outside the mines, but there could always be some stragglers in this part.

From what he read about these things, he had to say, they weren't fun to deal with.

I mean, he knew the Sith were missing a couple of screws, but yeesh

And that's where he and his squad came in.

you see, you can kill the parents, but all that does is make sure the kids are pissed. Then those vengeful kids raise vengeful babies and the cycle repeats.

So he's here to ensure that cycle comes to a ... heated finish.

but then again, maybe command would want one to continue its original.

it's funny in a way, they were both created for conflict. it's just...

He's a better soldier

But first.

"Now, since I figure most of you don't wanna walk around in the dark, activate night vision."

The troops nodded and hit a button on their helmets that made their black visitors suddenly glow green, then he activated his night vision.

He made sure to keep the flame trooper both in the front and in the back, while the regulars stayed in the middle to provide support to either side.

once he reached a certain part of the cave, he activated his built-in comm link.

"This is Hawk, just starting to enter the deeper parts of the cave, looks clear so far, how are things on your end, Commodore?"

“Sensorsss, what do you have?” Krix questioned as he brought a cigarra up to his fanged maw. The paranoia was doing him little good. Still, the Trandoshan had doubts as to the veracity of the force set before him.

“Sir umm...we are reading a lot of contacts, but I don't know how many represent...ships, sir.” The sensor officer, a diminutive blue-furred Chadra-Fan answered in an unsteady tone.

“Weaponsss! Arm plasma torpedoes and get me firing solutionsss, now!” Krix roared, the cigarra suddenly extinguishing in his mouth, which he quickly tossed aside and stamped under his boot.

“But sir, the...heading and course don’t match any known—”

“Torpedo solutions ready, captain! I have marks reflecting strongly on sensors. You were right, sir.” A Rodian spoke up from the weapons station, to which Krix gave a quick nod of approval. He liked the Rodian’s swift, decisive action, and it also helped that he had told him what he wanted to hear, as well.

“Fire!” Krix called out in triumphant tone. And suddenly, four blue-hued plasma torpedoes exploded out from the tubes, before quickly committing on a trajectory to strike the sensor returns in the readout. The crew eagerly looked through the electrotelescopes as the torpedoes rushed towards their targets, anticipating explosions, flaring shields, and perhaps even bodies venting into the void of space.

But instead, they saw flashes. Hyperspace jumps.

“N-new signatures arriving in system!” The Chadra-Fan called out, panic rising in his tone as his furry fingers darted across the console. “Four Raider class corvettes and three cruisers! T-they’re heavily-armed sir!” The sensor operator finished.

The grin which had been struck across Krix’s features slowly disappeared. He glanced at the electrotelescope feed again, hoping that his missiles might have found their marks. Instead, the warheads seemed to veer off in erratic courses, coaxing a grunt out from his lips as he slammed a fist on the chair controls.

“Commsss, order Star Home to launch all fightersss and arm long-range weapon systemsss! And weaponsss, get me firing solutions on those corvettesss!” Krix shouted.

Krix sat back down in his chair, before lighting up another cigarra. He knew that realistically, he might need to prepare to evacuate. But to do that, he first needed cover and ships to throw at the enemy, in order to keep them occupied.

He frowned then, knowing that his survival might very well depend on how quickly Star Home could launch its fighter complement.

“Torpedo solutions ready, sir!”

“What are we waiting for?! Open fire!”

Severon gave a final nod-salute as they parted ways, moving toward the officer who had been watching the soldiers patiently. With a wave of his finger in the air, followed by a point at the cave entrance, Severon signaled the next move. The officer responded with a nod and a loud, "All forward march!"

Severon took the lead, guiding his troops into the cave. As they crossed the entrance, the world outside seemed to vanish, swallowed by the deafening silence of the cavern. Only the faint, occasional sound of dripping water broke through the seemingly endless void. Flashlights flickered through the darkness as the soldiers scanned for signs of the leviathans.

At a fork in the cave, Severon raised a fist, signaling a halt. The cavern split into two passages, part of a looping system they had mapped earlier. They planned to flush the leviathans out of one side by forcing them topside through any other holes. A shield generator was brought to the front and placed at one of the entrances, sealing off an escape route for the beasts.

With a wave of his hand, Severon resumed the march, the troops silently following. As the last soldier passed the shield generator, it activated, filling the still cave with a low, mechanical hum.

Severon pointed toward the officer who had previously been barking orders, silently directing him to stay with some men behind to guard the generator, ensuring a safe retreat if needed. The officer saluted and pulled men from the back, positioning them around the generator.

Suddenly, a roar echoed through the passage, cutting through the quiet. Severon unsheathed his axe, igniting it with a crackling sound that cast a violet glow around him.

Before he could advance, a green, serpent-like creature dropped from the ceiling, lunging toward him. Severon caught it mid-air, crushing its body in his grip. It screeched, spraying green liquid before falling lifeless, Severon dropping it then crushing the lifeless body with his foot. The ground began to rumble with the approaching footsteps of a much larger beast.

As the creature flickered into view from the flashlights, the flamethrowers lit up, bathing the tunnel in fire. Severon's golden armor gleamed in the firelight as he stood tall, facing the approaching leviathan.

Enemy fire smashed into harmless space debris, just as Box had hoped. He raised a hand, about to signal that the explosives amongst the debris should be detonated to simulate cloaked ships being struck-

But then the signals officer announced, "Ships coming out of hyperspace. Imperials, Sir. We're being hailed."

Box listened to the message, a smirk spreading across his features.

"Good Morning, Darth," Box replied. It was inevitable in his trade that you'd be fighting people in one engagement, and be allied with them in the next. Some companies were exclusive to one employer- more privateers than mercenaries- but it was a rougher way to make a paycheck. Competitive hiring practices were what kept wages high.

"They're jumping at shadows," he went on, "likely couldn't believe we were all that showed up." Box had been a little concerned on that score himself, "We got them firing at our trash. Now that you're here, they'll assume my forces were merely a diversion. That means I can gut them."

He gestured to the signals officer, "I have a dozen explosives among the debris field here. I'm sending you coordinates, so you can keep your ships clear of them. If the enemy sends a fighter too close, we'll detonate one. Good for either a distraction or a kill."

He gestured for the comms to be cut, and then addressed the bridge crew.

"All ahead full, straight at their base. Tac Pods, prepare to launch. When we get within medium range, I want Headhunters to come forward and punch through the base shields with proton torpedoes- make a hole for the Tac Pods. Then we'll board and take the base deck by deck.

Chardon, you have the bridge. I'll be with the boarding teams."

The Commander chuckled, "You always take the fun stuff. Try not to get shot, Captain."

"Believe me," Box said as he stood and moved to the back of the bridge, "I don't need another headache."

Rorsch sat down in his command position and buckled himself in. His helmet had already begun to connect the walker, statuses showing up on his hud. The eight walkers approached the rear of 'trench 2' stopping only meters behind it. His stormtroopers jumped into the trench to support Alasdair Voland Alasdair Voland 's storm commandos. As the last walkers and Remans arrived in place, he pressed a button on his display.

<<Commencing activation of the Unified Engagement Network. General Alasdair, you should be receiving this as well.>> As he finished there were a few confirmations throughout the comms matrices. <<All walkers, set autoloaders to 1:2 ratio, first firestorm then HE. If they reach the minefield, use only beam and laser weaponry.>>

<<Have beam weaponry set to solarized particle. If they don't like the heat we'll give it to them.>> Rorsch's second-in-command said without a beat. It's always good to have a reliable second.

Then everything went quiet; dust blowing in the wind and the sound of leaves shaking in the forest. These first ten minutes seemed to go by slower with each passing second, until... <<Sir movement bearing two-eight-seven.>> One of the walkers said over comms. Rorsch's own walker turned just in time to see the tree shake and the first disgusting mutant rushed out of the tree with surprising speed. Making it halfway to the minefield before,

<<Fire, single gun.>>

Rorsch's walker was the first to fire unloading its fatal firestorm round. Upon hitting its target, it burst into a cloud of fire roaring hot enough to completely burn all the vegetation around the point of impact within an instant. The beast roared, injured, but pressing forward. Through his display, Rorsch saw a streak of fire go past his walker hitting the leviathan and bursting into flame. The stormtroopers in the trench began unloading into it eventually felling this first beast.

It was a small victory, but the next beast would be upon them in a few...

<<Sir, another one!>>

Rorsch looked at his tactical display. No, the next one was still another minute out, but running out from the trees was another leviathan, this one smaller than the last. One, that wouldn't shake the trees if seen from above. Chit.

<<All vehicles open-fire, there are more than the three seen. Smaller ones. Conserve ammo. General Alasdair, we might need to cut down some trees.>>
He said monotonously, with little worry on his breath as his walkers and IFVs opened-up.

Coded for transmission to Senior Officer and Major Sieliel Demigore of the Imperial Immortals.

MISSION BRIEFING:

COMMAND HAD DESIGNATED THE PLANET CORBOS FOR ANNEXATION.
REPORT TO CORBOS AND MAKE CONTACT RORSCH OF THE 1st BREAKTHROUGH ARMOUR COMPANY & 1ST LINE COMPANY.
PERFORM RECONNAISSANCE OF IMPERIAL OPERATIONS.
PROVIDE SECURITY AND ASSISTANCE TO IMPERIAL FORCES.
END OF TRANSMISSION. DO YOU WISH TO REPLAY? [Y] / [N]

The planet Corbos of the Esstran sector had become the latest target for annexation by the Empire of the Lost. Located near the Sith Holy Worlds-- a congregation of star systems located within the same sector as Corbos, under the rule of the Kainite-- suggested to the higher ups within the New Imperial Security Bureau that elements of the Imperial Ruling Council had not yet learned the lesson so clearly demonstrated during the Siege of Tion: stay away from the Sith or you will provoke their wrath.

Alas, the Imperials had made their move on the planet anyway, and so the Imperial Immortals came to Corbos to follow the perimeters of their mission: to provide reconnaissance of Imperial operations on the planet, and to provide security, or assistance, to Imperial forces should they ever desire them.

Major Sieliel Dimegor was in charge of over a thousand different personnel within the Imperial Immortals, and it had been she who the NISB has sent to conduct intelligence retrieval on the operations that the Imperial military were conducting today on Corbos. Specifically, Dimegor was to make contact with Rorsch Rorsch of the 1st Breakthrough Armor and 1st Line Companies to provide cover while he conducted his operations against the native Leviathans.

Raising the radio to her lips Dimegor begun to speak through the encrypted channels: "Major Dimegor of the Immortals now planet side to conduct operations here on Corbos, over. Direct your forces to rendezvous at your position, General Rorsch. The Immortals should cover the forest while we perform our security operations here on the planet, over."
