The beast approached, its guttural roars shaking the cave walls with each heavy step. The flamethrowers unleashed streams of fire, cloaking its form in waves of searing heat. The light reflected off Severon's gleaming armor as he extended a hand, reaching out with the force. His power latched onto one of the creature's massive legs. Though he couldn't fully stop it due to its immense size, he channeled much of his strength to drive its foot into the ground, slowing its relentless advance.
Realizing its movement was being hindered, the Leviathan attempted to retreat, its massive body twisting to flee the onslaught of flames. It was too slow. The fire engulfed it entirely, consuming its hide as it unleashed a deafening, echoing cry of agony. The beast collapsed, its tremendous weight shaking the ground as the flamethrowers continued their barrage. Severon released his hold, as he approached the charred, writhing body.
Standing before its scorched head, Severon raised his axe high, the purple energy blade crackling ominously. He paused, locking eyes with the creature's fading gaze, before bringing the axe down in a decisive strike. The Leviathan stilled, its cries silenced, leaving only the crackling flames and the faint echoes of dying embers in the cavern.
"
Alright, men! This is just the beginning, push forward!" an officer bellowed from the ranks, rallying the troops as they resumed their march. Severon lingered for a moment, gazing at the fallen beast, his figure motionless amidst the passing stream of soldiers.
The officer approached, his voice calm, with a hint of excitement . "
A fine kill, sir."
Severon turned to him, his tone firm. "
The men brought it down with their might. I was merely the executioner." Without another word, he strode back to his position at the head of the pack. The officer let out an exasperated sigh before returning to his position.
The march resumed, flashlights cutting through the cavern's darkness, illuminating jagged rock faces and hidden crevices. Before long, they encountered another fork in the tunnel system. A shield generator was brought forward to block one of the pathways. But the while the device was activating, the thumping of footsteps approached.
A second Leviathan burst from a concealed corner of the sealed route, its sheer force obliterating the generator and crushing several soldiers in its wake. It roared triumphantly, then charged, too close for the flamethrowers to bring it down in time.
From the opposite path, another roar reverberated through the cavern, accompanied by the unmistakable thunder of a second charge. The men braced for impact, their formation tightening as they awaited the unseen threat.
As chaos broke out, an urgent call for reinforcements was sent to the rear guard.
