CHRONICLE INFORMATION
Ession, an otherwise lesser-known industrial world on the edge of Corporate Space, gained notoriety in modern times as the former capital of the now defunct intergalactic government, the Dominion. The homeworld of the Grayson dynasty and a hotbed of Republican idealism, anti-Imperial sentiment flourished in the absence of a ruling Sith Empire in the Tingel Arm. This brazen defiance against the ideology of its neighbors drew in political revolutionaries from all over the galaxy, eventually culminating in the creation of a government that was staunchly opposed to any resurgent Sith activity in the nearby Esstran Sector.
The Dominion quickly earned the ire of the Sith Ascendancy and the Resurgent Empire by their attempts to stifle expansion efforts and repeated attacks on Sith territory in concert with the ever-present interventionism of the Silver Jedi Order. However, the Dominion expanded too far too quickly and began to lose its grasp on the worlds it had conquered across the Tingel Arm, allowing the Ascendancy and Resurgent Empire to roam free.
Eventually, the Ascendancy would evolve into the New Sith Empire and begin a lightning fast expanse across the Tingel Arm, delivering several concerted blows at Mirial, Serenno, Eol Sha, and Telos before the final blow was struck at Krayiss II.
While the Dominion had been fundamentally broken after the Battle of Krayiss II, several elements of the government and military sought refuge on Ession in preparation for a retaliatory strike by the Empire. However, as days turned to weeks, and weeks into months, it appeared that the Empire would overlook Ession as it plowed further into the Tion Cluster, gobbling up more and more systems with each passing rotation.
This was a false belief, as the Empire had never forgotten that Ession and its people were complicit in high treason against the Emperor and his government. It wasn't until the terrorist attacks on Jaminere that the Empire finally turned its gaze on Ession.
In concert five Sith-Imperial War Fleets emerged out of hyperspace around Ession, encircling the planet in a noose-like formation and delivering serious damage to the orbiting defense fleet. Smaller attack craft and heavy bombers were dispatched to the surface before the planetary shield was raised, which was swiftly dismantled shortly after by a combined attack on the shield generator and a concentrated ion cannon barrage from the Sith-Imperial fleets.
As the shield collapsed a large group of troop transports was dispatched to all residential zones across the planet, disgorging hundreds of thousands of Legionnaires who had been ordered to dispatch the population of Ession through any means necessary. Entire city blocks were atomized by roaming squadrons of Ajunta StarFortresses while the streets ran red with the blood of executed civilians, civil workers, and military personnel alike.
The Emperor knew that if the Empire simply occupied Ession the populace would rise up against the Imperial garrison the moment their attention was diverted elsewhere and that any attempts of successfully imposing their Imperial ideology on the people would either be futile or would cost far more than it was worth.
Extermination was the only option.
It would also serve as a warning to neighboring systems that the Empire while having shown mercy in the past, was not above destroying entire civilizations in order to impose order on the galaxy. Any attempts at surrender or parlay by the planetary government were rejected or outright ignored by the Empire as it cut a bloody swath of devastation across Ession.
The massacre only took several rotations, but by the end of the blood campaign, the entire population of Ession had been reduced to carrion. Shortly after, the Empire would occupy the ruins of Ession and take control of its vast industrial yards. Most of the ruins would be dismantled and replaced with defensive structures and more industrial complexes with the aspiration to one day terraform all of Ession into a forgeworld much like Kol Huro.
