Intent: A Prize item for the Raxis Expeditions Thread #1
Development Thread: If needed.
Manufacturer: Unknown Jal'shey
Affiliation: Prize Item: Raxis Expeditions Participants
Modularity: No
Production: Semi-Unique
Material: Durasteel, Unknown elements.
Description:

The Compass of Yearning is a strange compass. Some say its broken, but those that truly know the ancient arts know it's certainly not. when the wearer holds the compass the keeper, a Jal'Shey spirit entombed within will commune with the mind and spirit of the owner.

The spirit in the likeness of Ben Kenobi and multiple others can communicate through the force to the user. It has travelled far in its lifetime, visiting numerous worlds and retaining many secrets. Many Jal'shey were interconnected, as a very small tight order of Jedi and the like, they have a working knowledge of where a lot secrets may be kept.

They also retain the knowledge of where the Jal'Shey had put down their roots, making it a great resource for finding Temples and Enclaves long forgotten.

There are limits to the Jal'Shey spirits knowledge however, It cannot find places it does not know about, which means it is not omniscient. A user may be able to find many Jedi ruins and temples, but not anything they want.

Sources Canon- Talisman of Finding- Wookiepedia
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Talisman_of_Finding
The Talisman of Finding was of similar nature to a nightsister blood trail, only that it tracked Darth Maul by having his blood imbued within it rather than having Talzin's blood used to place a blood trail on Maul. Without Maul's blood placed on the talisman it would not have pointed towards him, or anything else. It is designed to locate specific people by imbuing their blood into the amulet, not point towards a wanted object.

Alchemy and Jal Shey techniques do not have a canonical method of creating the sort of compass seen in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, and if you cannot provide site-canon submissions or some canonical evidence of such taking place this will either require edits or will face denial on concept.

Vassara's lightsaber crystal has a Jal'shey spirit in it whom acts as the guardian of it. Given that the spirit inside the crystal can influence it so no other but Vassara can manipulate the saber, I'd say this isn't far of a stretch honestly.

When we look at examples of force ghosts like say Ben Kenobi in the Empire Strikes back, he directs luke to go to Dagobah. Hell they even have conversations. So if the spirit is one with the force it would make sense to me that the spirit would be rather omniscient in that regard. If a force ghost can direct luke to go to Dagobah, it only makes to me that it could simply move the needle of the compass and point the user in the right direction.

This is not meant to be major item, just a prize item of limited use.

I can add a caveat in there about not being used to find secret bases and such if you like.

A force ghost is not omniscient, it only retains the knowledge of what it had in life and what it has learned post-mortem. If the weilder were looking for something that the spirit knows the location of it can theoretically point towards it, but it cannot locate what it does not know.

I will need explicit language barring this from locating things that exist outside of its knowledge.

Ok that’s acceptable. Can we assume the spirit is a well travelled master before it ascended? It would likely know the location of many temples and a lot of worlds. Possibly be able to point the adventurers towards hidden artefacts or whatever secrets it retained in real life.

Edited to reflect requests.

How many of these can I have? I'd like to give one to each participant in the thread. This will be a one time issued item. I believe there are about five or six RPers currently working in it.

Set it to semi-unique and everyone you feel should have one can have one. Change the affiliation either to your character or something ambiguous that would coincide with your thread.
