- Runner: When compared to other ships of similar dimensions, the Cortana boasts speed and maneuverability capabilities which far exceed the norm. This permits the vessel to perform its intended role of providing swift humanitarian aid incredibly well.
- Covert: Despite the vessel's dimensions, the Cortana is not a dedicated engine of war. To this end, a Stygium Cloaking Device has been incorporated into the design as to allow it to slip past hostile circumstances and better perform its intended role.
- Lightly Armed: As the intended role of the Cortana is to provide humanitarian assistance en masse, the vessel is scarcely equipped with military-grade armaments. In light of this, the vessel must rely upon escort formations for personal defense, as it is unable to defend itself against dedicated, military opponents.
- Hangar Bays: Due to the nature of ferrying full-sized frigates aboard, the Cortana's, releasing the vessel's escort fighters is a rather lengthy process. In the event that her medical and transport complement are still aboard, it will take several minutes for the Taera squadron to be safely launched.
In the wake of every conflict, the masses are broken.
While one side always emerges triumphant over the other, the havoc left behind is a far cry from the glories of victory. More often than not, an entire world is left as a shadow of its former self. Her people are forced to survive in squalor - and all evidence of her former beauty is caked in ash. Within the Confederacy of Independent Systems, there once resided a congregation of hearts which break at the sight of this reality. Known as the Order of the Sacred Lotus, the organization worked tirelessly to make a difference when the flames of war consume an unsuspecting world. They gladly threw themselves in harms' way in order to save as many broken lives as possible. They made the effort to provide new homes to the refugees and vital aid to the wounded.
And above all, they worked to rebuild.
In this era plagued by strife, the Confederacy took notice of the ceaseless efforts of the Sacred Lotus. As such, assets were accumulated in order to augment their ability to perform their selfless acts. Thus began the Cortana: a Super Star Defender devoted to providing a planet's worth of assistance in one, agile package. As a whole, the project centered around ensuring that doctors, rebuilders, and other humanitarian efforts could be ferried and dispensed at a moment's notice - and as a result, the Cortana is the furthest thing from a conventional "warship." In fact, the term "warship" can hardly be applied to the ship - save for the fact that there is a dedicated squadron of escort droids aboard at all times.
This aside, the Cortana is - firstly - a monumental medical facility. Its medical wing spans several hundred meters and easily rivals some of the finer care centers within Confederate space. Only the best of modern technology can be found aboard, including Kaminoan-operated cloning tubes, bacta and kolto refreshment pods, and much more. Next, the Cortana is a place of refuge. As a Super Star Defender in classification, the vessel boasts more than enough room to accommodate thousands upon thousands of displaced souls following a battle. And, in order to provide them with peace following their collective ordeals, a massive section of the ship has been devoted to communal stability. At a glance, this corner of the ship is a stark contrast to the technological advancements of the medical bay, for it is a literal grove of Force Sensitive trees. Here, wounded souls can find peace under the shade of living comforters - or engage in physical or mental rehabilitation activities.
As a whole, the Cortana is a physical representation of the Confederacy's ongoing commitment to mirroring the mission of the Sacred Lotus. The Southern Systems are exceedingly grateful for every life preserved and every home rebuilt by their efforts - and now, the Cortana will spearhead new efforts into the future.
