The Cosmos: Like this and I will end you

I made a point of liking every single post in this thread, for maximum irony.

This thread is silly. The rep system means very little. My reputation is higher than my post count, and every other post Tef makes ends up with six or seven people chain-liking it. You're reading too much into it. It's a way for people to give a "rah" to stuff they enjoy. And since schadenfreude is alive and well, we get a lot of snark-liking.

Edited for clarification, even though I didn't think it needed to be clarified.

The indication I've gotten from [member="High Goddess Dibella"] is that it's people mass-liking antagonistic, rude, or bullying comments, or something of that extent.

And? This means very little. Likes are the equivalent of someone posting "First!" in a youtube comments section, or necro-ing a thread with a post that says "I agree." It's an option for the person liking to show the person who is being liked that what they said was agreeable or amusing to that specific person. It means very little.

Getting upset over it is silly. Therefor, this thread is silly.

The problem isn't with people liking the bashing posts.
The problem is people making those posts.

A lot of people say that things on the internet shouldn't matter. That if someone is being an nerf herder, you should just 'grow thicker skin and deal with it'.
In my opinion, that's bull. We wouldn't have to have thick skin if people weren't assholes. Some things, of course, we can't stop. There are some offenses that can be written off. Sometimes the 'victim' really is the wrong one. 'Course, that doesn't mean every victim is just whining over little things.

Asshats are asshats. No matter the context.
People liking asshat posts aren't asshats themselves. Well, they can be, but it doesn't make them karkweasels.

However, someone's idea of humor can make them a bad person.
For example, I'd never want to be friends with someone who laughs at rape, suicide, racism, sexism, misogyny, abuse, or anything like that. Making fun of mental illnesses is also a big one.

Alas, there is no solution to this. People will continue to be assholes. There will always be people who will frustrate you.
I say let them like passive-aggressive (or plain old aggressive) posts. At least that'll help you know who you want to deal with, and who you just want to stay away from or distance yourself from.

^ see this stuff all the time. But there are also other, more rude posts and they need handling. My advice? Block em. After my recent inquiries about staff, its been founded that even staff hired volunteers can be snarky. Everyone is at a point in time. Report it, then block it.

Or just go with the flow, figure out which ones are rude, (ie look for it their profile info [sigs, tags, etc]) there are tags people use to point it out entirely. Kick those guys, i mean avoid em.
