Braze nodded silently at Jasper's critique, absorbing the wisdom but also noting the slight diversion of his Master's gaze toward the ground. His senses tingled just a fraction too late. The small pebble, propelled with precision, struck him square on the nose.
A sharp, surprising pain radiated outward, eyes watering instantaneously. For a split second, his focus shattered, leaving just enough of an opening for Jasper's palm-strike to connect with his chest. The force of the hit pushed him back a to stumble one step, momentarily knocking the wind out of him. The force of the blow was strong enough to send him skidding backwards, Braze planted his boots firmly into the dusty ground, he arrested his momentum with an act of will and control. Dust particles kicked up around his heels, swirling in the air before settling back to the ground.
His hand shot up to his still-twinging nose, wiping away the remnants of shock and pain. His eyes blinking rapidly to clear the watery blur. It was a cheap shot, but a lesson learned: in real combat, anything could happen. Drawing a shallow breath, he re-assumed his stance. His eyes, red but now clear, locked onto Jasper's with renewed focus. There would be no words this time; his silence speaking volumes.
Having lost the advantageous close-quarters position he had initially secured, Braze felt the urgency to regain that intimate space. His hands rose to a defensive position, high and ready to protect his face from any oncoming strikes. He was cautious yet determined, his eyes trained keenly on Jasper.
With nimble footwork, Braze once again circled toward Jasper's weaker right side. His steps were light and purposeful. Suddenly, he feinted a move that suggested he would launch an arched attack towards Jasper's left. His hope was to elicit a defensive arm extension from his Master, thus providing an opening for his real intention--a shoulder throw.
However, executing this technique would be a challenge due to Jasper's shirtless state, which deprived Braze of a convenient grip. He'd have to rely solely on his body mechanics and the execution of the move. As Braze approached, he swiftly took a couple of steps away to make his feint more convincing.
