The Diner Blues (complete)

What’s happening here?
Something is going on
That’s not quite clear
Somebody turn on the light
We’re gonna have aparty tonight!!!
OHHHH what a feeling!
Dancing on the ceiling!!!!
The room is hot!

It was Rekha’s night off the Diner was closed and she was downstairs playing with headphones, listening to music and dancing around the counter . The wayward brunette was starting to feeling like herself again the little bit of spirit that she had was surfacing upwards, wearing her freshly cleaned Ewok slippers, shorts to her knees, and long T-Shirt the girl had it going on tonight.

There were people stopping by the Diner standing back watching her bob her head and sing. Now the singing was not as melodious as what she heard, it was almost sending anything nearby into a frenzy. A hunting party was heard to be gathering to put the poor thing that was suffering out of its misery.

But the Keladian had never thought about what she sounded like or looked like she just wanted to express herself tonight. If [member="Dekkan Fray"] heard any of it, he either put on ear muffs, or was also hunting a blaster to kill whatever creature had broken into the diner and was dieing loudly.

Sebastion woke up from underneath one of the corner table, he hadn't remembered what had happened last night, all he knew was something sounded horribly in pain. Sebastion got up off his feet and grabbed a bottle off the counter, leaving money for it. Then he readied his blaster and slowly crept downstairs to find out what the source of that noise was. He also noticed some other men waiting at the top of the stairs expecting Sebastion to go take care of whatever it was, but Sebastion was still a bit hungover and fell down the stairs, knocking him unconscious. He lay there on the ground with his beer spilling, blaster still in hand. Yeah, he thought before he blacked out , I might have a bit of a problem.

Rekha saw the fallen...and stopped...quickly she keyed the doors, went over and picked up the drunk for that is what he clearly had to be, how the hell had he gotten in here without them seeing him. She pushed him out the front door, which then closed...

Leaving her on the outside with the one she just peeled off the floor oh oh...well...there was something she could do..something she had been longing to try, a feature in her slippers that would let her walk up the side of the diner....she giggled like a school girl

smiled at [member="Sebastion Wulfsorrow"], "sup cookie?" She began bobbing her head again, "watch this" She could hear the music going this time and she grabbed the railing and planted both feet on the side of the diner. Ohhhh it stuck. She laughed harder.. this would be hard to do with gravity pulling her down, but she moved to where she could grab the edge of the windows and slowly inched her way upwards, she had not thought about what happens when she runs out of window.

She was not drunk, nor was she on any kind of drug Rekha just needed something more tonight than sleep, and work. She had been a good girl anyone who knew her would know, but sometimes the little devil in her wanted out to play.

"shake your grove thing shake your grove thing yea yeah, show how to do it now" she started the slow climb.

Sebastion woke up to the sound of a woman's voice, but he was positive that he was either in a dream or still drunk. He looked down his bottle and drank what was left of it, then got up off the ground onto his feet. He thought this was a dream because this woman was walking up the side of this diner. Sebastion realized that he could one up her and he activated his boots and flew up to beside her, close enough to hear her music. He enjoyed it, and he couldn't help himself but to gently sway to it's rhythm and say every fourth or fifth word. "So am I still drunk or are you really walking up the side of this building honey?" Sebastion said as his watched this peculiar girl climb up the wall.

[member="Rekha Kaarde"]

Rekha looked over, and removed one ear bud, since she could read lips she knew what he had said and to be polite she would remove the earbud, "You're drunk, I'm actually walking on the side walk" She tilted her head.

"Was your intent to be drunk today? or is it yesterday?" She smiled that one grin that said chew on that. As she waited for him to respond.

[member="Sebastion Wulfsorrow"]

He finally realized that he was indeed very drunk as he was in fact the one flying sideways, and with this told to him he subsequently fell face first onto the pavement. Sebastion then quickly regained his composure, and she then asked if he was drunk. "Well one does not intend to be drunk it just happens, I was out with friends whom I do not remember, at a party which I do not remember, then I woke up on the floor to hear this terrible wailing of a hurt Bantha if I guessed."

She laughed, "Yes the poor bantha it comes out to wail upon occasion when its spirit is riding high, but it has never been found under a table with no memory" She grinned again, and then made to turn her slippers so she could maybe crabwalk up the side of the diner, this put her butt against the windows.

"So what were you celebrating, with these friends?"

Greg left the Lost Loves Casino with a bit of a weave and wobble in his step. He’d spent much more of his time at the bar than the tables gambling. In fact, he didn’t remember placing any bets tonight.

Greg was having a difficult time with memories tonight. He’d met one person he cared for in his life and it turned out she was in love with someone else – frekking Jon Burke no less. Not that he had anything against Burke, especially after the last two or three years he’d had, but, he was a hard man to compete with. What was worse, when he understood the futility of caring for Rekka romantically he then failed to help her find and keep Jon. Maybe that was worse than not winning Rekka’s affection – failing her when he should have been able to help her. Seeing her crash emotionally, then disappear.

After blowing off CORSEC to stay on Lianna to help them recover from the plague; then helping Rekka during her return from the hospital, they unceremoniously discharged him leaving him unemployed. So, he had been bouncing around from world to world doing small time PI jobs to make a living; finally ending up on Abregado-Rae. Finishing up his case and ending up with a pocketful of credits, the casinos seemed like a logical place to solve that problem.

Walking down the main drag, he began passing the shops and store-fronts that were closed for the night. Passing an apparently closed diner, he heard a voice that rocked him. He grabbed a lamppost to steady himself and listened.

That voice was so familiar. He slipped up to a window and, keeping out of site, surreptitiously looked inside. It was her. What in the Maw was Rekka doing on Abregado-Rae?

Suddenly she came out, pushing a drunk out ahead of her.

Greg ducked back out of sight. He found a bench nearby and sat down, holding his head in his hands. Did he have the courage to go in and face her? Did he have the courage not to?

"I am headed no where really, it is my night off and I'm trying to have some fun of my own" What was she going to say, I live in the diner. I work there, live there, and now I am having a party there.

She picked up her head from where she was against the diner and then she caught movement across the way but then there was nothing, it was unusual considering the location of the diner. She was attracting attention it seemed, not that she wasn't use to that, but she didn't usually pay mind to it.

Then she thought of something,

"OH SOLO MIO WHEN THE NIGHT COMES AND THE SUN HAS GONE DOWN I START FEELING BLUE I'D STAY BELOW YOUR WINDOW WHEN NIGHT COMES, AND THE SUN GOES DOWN" The bantha speaks again. A howl was heard.

"well" and then she laughed.

Gregory Gray hadn’t gotten where he’d been in CORSEC by being indecisive. He rose and walked over to where Rekka and her companion were chatting and Rekka was still singing. He provided the next stanza…

But another sun that’s brighter still
It’s my own sun that’s in your face!
The sun, my own sun
It’s in your face!
It’s in your face!

He grinned somewhat abashed by his imposition and simply said, “Hello, Rekka.”

[member="Rekha Kaarde"]

She stopped completely, without thinking she let go and fell onto the ground, her ewok slippers immediately felt the change and released, Rekha rolled over and then got up dusting herself off, and then stealing a glance over to Greg.

The pain then seared through her every reminder of it all burned her she closed her eyes it was not closing in on her it wasn't she opened them back up, nope he's still there it wasn't a dream.

"Hi Greg, you lost?"

[member="Gregory Gray"]

[member="Rekha Kaarde"]

“Yeah, Rekka… I think so,” Gregory admitted feeling quite lost at the moment. “And probably drunker than I should be,” he also confessed.

He walked closer and nodded to [member="Sebastion Wulfsorrow"] introducing himself, “I’m Greg Gray. Pleased to meet you.”

Looking back at Rekka, he shook his head, sighed, and said, “We have some catching up to do lady… if you are interested.”

Rekha looked to the the other guy [member="Sebastion Wulfsorrow"] "forgive me for this" She looked at Greg, "Sure what's the worst thing you can tell me this week, I've got nothing left to lose unless you want my slippers"

She motioned for him to follow her, she'd take him back into the diner and brew some coffee, and would lock the doors so that no one could come in she needed to talk to Greg.

She remembered their last encounter, as she opened the diner door she found herself grinding her teeth. "Come on [member="Gregory Gray"], I can afford coffee this week" She'd pay Dekkan for the coffee.

[member="Rekha Kaarde"]

Greg followed Rekha inside wishing he’d stayed in the shadows. He felt as if she blamed him for everything that happened and her seeming hostility cut him deeply. All he ever did was try to help her – no matter how things turned out.

“I’m not here for anything, Rekha. I just finished a job and was waiting to leave, killing time in the casinos.”

He paused thinking carefully what to else to say. “I had no idea you were here until I heard you singing.” He continued softly, “I think too much of you just to walk by and not see how you are doing.”

He dropped his head, afraid of her response and stirred his caf slowly.

[member="Gregory Gray"]

"Geez Greg do you know the hell I've been living in, do you know what it cost me to get here, or even why I have to be here" She snatched up a cup for herself and hit the insta brewer again.

"Do you know" her green eyes looked at him, "how much pain I was before any of this even happened, you were there...and look.." she lifted her hands, "my heart has been shredded into small pieces, my ability to shake something off and find some good in it...shot to hell." Rekha stirred the caf then she exhaled.

"its good to see you, you know I don't deal with pain real well" She looked at the floor, "did you at least win at the tables?"

[member="Rekha Kaarde"]

Greg shook his head ruefully, “It’s been a long time since I feel like I won at anything.”

“When I returned to Corellia, CORSEC had me classified as AWOL for the time I spent on Lianna. I was unceremoniously discharged. It would have been classified as dishonorable if my family hadn’t intervened.”

“My father wanted me to return to Tyrena and run the family’s business.” He held up his cup in a mock salute indicating his response to their offer. He was, after all, on Abregado-Rae.

“I’ve been contracting private investigations since then. I just finished an inquiry here.”

“Now, Miss Kaarde. Tell me what the hell happened to you. You just disappeared… and I looked Rekha. By the time I tracked you to Coruscant, you were gone again. I know you’ve had a tough time, but, there are people that care about you… that were worried.”

Greg was sure there were others but the “people” he was sure of was himself.

Seeing Greg reminded her of Jon. And all they had gone through to get her to him the last time. She missed him to a level that left her numb left her more protective of herself. She didn't sigh Greg could read her her green eyes were a bit duller now, the most fun she had in the months since had been the dancing she'd just done.

"I'm sorry you got discharged. Maybe one day I can send them a letter that says what a good guy you are"

"Well Greg, " miss kaarde she should smack him for that. "The One Sith attacked Coruscant and my protection wasn't up to par. They bombed and burned her. All the credits I had are all laying in a Coruscant bank. Me. I've got enough to survive. Dekkan gave me food, shelter, clean water, and some clothes . Cause after a couple of months of trying to get somewhere, bartering services on freighters to cook, navigate. The last freighter by the way they wanted a gang round robin type action" She stared hard at him she wouldn't have to paint that picture for him, "so when I git here I was lucky someone had compassion for me"

Rekha was not going to cry not now. "No one cares whether I'm dead or alive, which leads me to. Where's Jon?"

[member="Rekha Kaarde"]

[SIZE=12pt]Greg sighed. Jon Burke again. He shrugged and admitted, “I don’t have any idea where Jon is. I expect that he is alive but the last I heard about him, Solomon Burke and Dallas Taylor were shipping him off Corellia after he recovered from his coma.”[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]“Some of my old friends in CORSEC that were monitoring their presence on-planet, had the distinct impression they were very relieved when he recovered however they were very concerned about his mental status. He apparently had spent a long period of time categorized as brain dead before he reached the ICU at the medical center. Rehka, at best, Jon had significant -almost total- amnesia. I never received a report of his prognosis for memory recovery. I understand that’s very unpredictable.”[/SIZE]

[SIZE=12pt]He looked at the pain in her eyes and said, “I’m really sorry I don’t know more. What can I do to help?”[/SIZE]

"Great. Memory loss. Can't win. " she sat quiet for a few moments. Thinking. "Greg. I have no funds except my tips. But. I need to know if Jon and I have a future, cause. I'm in limbo every where. I have to move forward. So. I need to find him. " she looked over, " can you help?"
