The Diner Blues (complete)

Greg was thoughtful before he continued.

“I’ll help you any way I can. I have a small stipend from my family. As much as I upset them, they never completely cut me off,” he admitted with some embarrassment.

“A search like this will cost more though, so, I’ll have to continue to take contracts to finance our search.”

He thought for a couple of other minutes. “I may be able to get to Coruscant. I know some people that would give me a contract for work that would allow access to the system. When I get there I could go to your bank and withdraw as much of your money as they’ll allow.”

“Alternately, or additionally, I can advance you some credits to be applied against that account when you retrieve it.”

“It wouldn’t be for the search for Jon though, Rekha. I would only do it to help you live more comfortably.”

He wished she understood how much he cared for her, but, her heart was never available to him.

"If we can get to my Coruscant funds it will change things. My. Other job left me with some funds. And then there's the money Solomon gave me to help out. But still all Coruscant money."

She looked at him part of her knew he was going above and beyond but Jon had stolen her heart long ago. And she didn't see herself with anyone but him. It made her feel bad.

"I have some other work hopefully coming up so don't you dip into your money. I" she didn't want to hurt him, "just want Jon found" it bothered her that Jon appeared to have forgotten her. Damn.

"So. Let's look to Coruscant first, ok. Can we?"

Greg nodded his agreement. “We’ll start at Coruscant.”

He stood and paced as he thought; arranging the details in his mind.

“Rekha, I’ll make contact with my associate to get paperwork we’ll need to justify a trip to Coruscant. When we are there, we’ll drop of the grid long enough to get you to a branch of your bank.”

He stopped pacing beside and caught her eyes, “If that goes off without difficulties, we need to move on to phase two… stealing a ship.”

She was with him until he said steal a ship. "Steal, Greg we don't steal remember bad things happen when we steal." She watched him pace the thought of seeing Coruscant was sad. Everything she had gone. If it weren't for memories she'd truly have nothing. As it was she hoped that one thing had survived. A small big eyed something.

"Can we also look at the lucky lady?" She asked with some hope. She hadn't let anyone in since Jon she looked at Greg, he was a good friend and she knew just from how he looked st her that he wanted more. If there had been no Jon. Would she have gone for a guy like Greg. Better yet if would he have noticed her in the same way. Jon had brought them together.

But this was all thoughts that had been inched out by boating on a river, dinner, play time in the snow, and a smart assed comment about womp rat. She missed Jon and this was the only way to find him. So be it.

"Maybe we can borrow one?"

Greg arched a brow. Both of them together couldn’t afford a hyperspace capable ship and he had no idea who they could borrow one from. He did have a plan if she had the guts.

“OK, we’ll call it borrow. I’ll explain my plan when I’ve had a chance to see if I can make the details come together,” he said rather evasively. It was his career that would be forever trashed if it didn’t work, not hers; but, that wasn’t the issue here.

“In the mean time, we need to arrange for public transportation to Coruscant. Can you check the schedule while I prepare a couple of messages to my old contacts? Have a full size terminal in here anywhere?”

He needed to keep busy or he would sink into a funk at having finally found Rekha again only to have to start helping her look for Jon again. Life truly sucks.
