The Ember of the Soul

[member="Lassiter"]

The blood shed that appeared in the visions only continued, the brutal violence that was this woman's past did not stop. Within the fear, and hatred, pleasure arose from the depths of the emotions. The voices echoed over and over in his own head, causing him some form of confusion. Romeo could not make out who, or what these voices were...her own? The little heritage she had received with her existence? The man opted it was probably a little of both the temptation and desire for revenge of the acts done to her.

But among this darkness, there was a light, something this woman clung to with a death grip. Love. Something Romeo could have related to at one point. Now his emotions expanded to minor acts of compassion filled with the major desires of passion, something that he saw deep within this woman. Like him, she was far to gone to feel true love ever again, though he clung to the hope that maybe, just maybe one day that could change.

With this now in his mind, the light began to fade, along with the darkness, the visions withdrawing from his mind. What was...a impact to his chest pushed him back away from Lassiter. She was awake, and she was very upset, just as he assumed she would have been.

For a moment, Romeo simply continued to sit there in his chair as he fled from her mind. It was best to obey the woman's wishes now that she was again a awake. Then he stood up slowly and spoke: "You have a concussion, so be still, else you will worsen your condition. You are safe here, relax to the best of your ability."

Romeo walked over to his personal refrigerator, and pulled out a bottle of water to which he handed to her.

"I gave you two choices, and you chose. Now...you have lost that chance and so now you will listen, and you will talk to me."

His back then turned to the redhead as he moved over to his caf maker, turning it on to make himself a cup.

"Also...no matter what happens after this...whether you leave, stay or whatever...."

Now he was looking back at her.

"Everything I have saw will never leave my lips. I promise you this...unless of course you manage to kill me, then...I really do promise."

Now he was chuckling at both at the concept that she could kill him, and at the notion that he was...oddly okay with that.

There was a brief moment in which Sena kept her hands raised in stance. She wasn’t a very strong individual, at least not physically, but she could still throw a punch. Kind of. She had certainly landed a hit on the heretic’s chest who seemed almost unmoved by it. She patted her hip for her saber, but it was gone. Figures. She let the guard down but let her hands remain curled up into balls by her sides. She wasn’t going to drop it entirely, but she was going to trust him just a little. He deserved that much.

Or rather, she had no other choice. She was on his ship.

So, she took a seat atop the bed she had been placed on and watched as Romeo made his coffee.

“I am not leaving the Ember.” Sena muttered. “They’re the first family I’ve had that hasn’t betrayed me yet.”

He had already seen most of her memories already. What was the point of keeping the facade up? She scooched on up until her back hit the wall for a greater feeling of security while she hugged her knees like the little girl she had never been.

“That’s what everyone else have ever done to me. Betrayal and false promises is all I’ve ever been met with whenever someone gets close to me.” She frowned. “The woman you saw is different. We fell overnight, but… She is the only one who has been interested in me. Wanted to know me and help me. No motives, other than to care for me and that…”

“It scares me.” The little girl tightened her grip around her knees. Squeezed to keep herself quiet. “I know what I am, and I know what that means.”

“I am going to die young and have deserved it.”

“... Might as well make that mean something to whoever ends it.”

Taking a sip of the finished coffee, Romeo's ears perked as he listened to the woman's words. First family to never betray her? That was putting it mildly oblivious. Still he watched the woman search for a sense of security in his room, to which was funny to him, and made him chuckle again. One more sip into his coffee, and he sat down beside the bed.

"I'll start from the end of your sentence to the beginning. You don't have to die young, trust me, there are many options still very open for you. This woman...the one you cling so dearly...we'll get back to that some more later. What I want to clarify firstly is that you're "family" has already betrayed you. Way before I was declared a heretic."

He leaned back as his red eyes scanned her over, and over. It was amazing how much she had changed within just a few hours, maybe minutes, Romeo could not pin point the time at the moment.

"We still have no home miss Sena, it is still lost to us. I believe...if we had that back...we could be whole again...and I would work with the Ember to just see it back in our hands again...I would love that so."

There was another sip of his coffee as he leaned back, crossing his legs.

"I would also like you to tell me how I'm the heretic...what have I done to prove myself such?"

Now he leaned forward, skipping the heretic part. It mattered very little if she viewed him as something of an abomination, or an ally of their people. It mattered little to him whether she killed him or not, he had very little left to accomplish these days.

"Lastly...tell me about your love for this woman, and herself. I am interested to hear this story that is your last light in the darkness you have weaved out of fear and hate."

“Our home?” Sena looked almost insulted. “This isn’t about home, it’s about loyalty. For me.”

“We wander because it’s part of our heritage by now. Much like you ask me why I support those that haven’t found home I must ask you what makes you think you have the right to determine what our kind should call home or not. Vahlra isn’t home, yet you want us to treat it as such? The goddess will find us the way back.” She looked over at Romeo. Sure, she didn’t lunge at him and actively try to choke the life out of him, but that was merely because of the circumstances she was under.

Being a captive didn’t offer much in the way of alternatives in how to act and what to do.

And she hadn’t told him anything vital to the Ember either. All that mattered to her was surviving until her concussion was gone. Then whatever happened was up in the air.

“You call our goddess a mortal saint and you try to create a new home instead of finding our real home.” Sena glared. “Why don’t you tell me why we branded you as such.”

“And Am- the woman is none of your business.” She hissed now. “She is special to me.”
