The Eyrie
Ruus’ika Habitation Sphere
Between the mountain and the sea
I've made a happy landing;
And here a peace has come to me
That passeth understanding;
A shining faith and purity
Beyond demanding.

STANDARD FEATURES
ADVANCED SYSTEMS

Strengths:

  • Home to a substantial amount of people and wildlife

  • Outstanding shields, and the ability to donate them to properly equipped defenders in extremis.

  • Though climate is set upon manufacture, it can be adjusted if necessary.

  • Has a much shallower gravity well than a planet, massively reducing surface-to-orbit transit costs.

  • It’s tough to sneak up on a Ruus’ika.
Weaknesses:
  • Slower than mud.
  • Though the interior is well armoured, the exterior surface is much like that of a planet. If shields go down, that’s serious vulnerability and a lot of casulties. For all it's armaments, this isn't for taking into combat, it's a home for a nomad Clan associated with a major faction.
Description:

Nicknamed 'The Eyrie', the Ruus'ika Habitation Sphere commissioned for Clan Kryze maintains an Temperate Mountain climate; complete with crags, forests, trickling streams and stunning views from the surface at day or night. Comprised of 50.27 square KM of terrain ranging from thick pine forests, sheer cliffs,mountain tops, deep crags, and numerous imported creatures, the Eyrie was built to replicate the conditions of the now-devestated (and volcanic) mountain homelands of Clan Kryze and to act as a long term lifeboat for those species endangered on Mandalore's surface. Or, to provide that lifeboat if Mandalore should be devestated again. Mandalore and the Mando'ade will survive.

The primary imported species that gives it it's nickname are the gigantic Night Owls, the mountain-dwelling pre-sentient mega-fauna that shared their old home - and now their new home - with Clan Kryze, each of these normally has a massive range, but a small family grouping has been convinced to settled in the provided surface area of the Habitation Sphere.

The two poles provide the two highest 'mountain' peaks - with the northern pole concealing significant armament and the shield generator beneath it, and the southern pole concealing the shield generator and a 500 meter wide, sealable entrance into the space dock which the Clan use for the majority of their manufacturing.

The Clan members inhabit the surface itself - which is dotted with small settlements and homes as well as two small high-rise city complexes.

The sphere is lit by a artifical fusion 'sun' that rotates with a cycle of one standard Mandalorian day - the shields are polarized so that during the 'night' external sunlight is blocked from the surface, in an emergency, additional artifical lighting can be used or the sphere can be put in an appropriate orbit to provide lifegiving light.

The outermost portion of the sphere is made up of thirty-five decks, with gravity oriented inward, feet facing the core. Each of these decks is roughly 50 square kilometres. Of these decks, 25 have been combined into multi-deck arrangements of varying high (minimum two decks) and used to save samples and varities of as much of Mandalore's biosphere as possible, essentially forming the galaxies largest lifeboat / zoo. There are no examples of Mandalore's megafauna, as keeping them in decks of this size would be inhumane and potentially quite destructive.

The remaining decks are interspersed between the other decks and provide housing, storage and support for the sphere surface and the lifeboat decks. It is quite possible to wander these decks for months or more and see a myriad of species and environments, without doubling back on yourself.

A similar amount of space is contained in the inner decks, which are stacked, feet facing the south pole. Half of these decks have been hollowed out to create a moderately large shipyard space (capable of constructing a Star Destroyer at most - larger vessels or multiple vessels must be constructed outside of the sphere) and the remaining half form the command, construction, engineering and workshop decks for the shipyard as well as the armoury for the Clan mercenaries and emergency deployment positions for Mandalorian Empire troops should the sphere be called to war - which is not it's intent at all, but it's best to be prepared.

I'm looking at the affiliation and size, and then I'm looking at Table 1.0 in the Starship Template:

I'm not sure if we can really use Clan Kryze or Kryze Industries for a ship this large. My guess is that this will probably have to be affiliated with a major faction, like the Mandalorian Empire.

We're a little high in terms of overall ratings as well. The unique nature of this craft along with its very low sublight speed and maneuverability pretty much balances out the extreme ratings for its defenses and armament. The Hangar though currently isn't being balanced, though I'm guessing you were trying to do that with the slow hyperdrive?

We typically don't count hyperdrives in terms of actual rating balances because it's extremely rare that this is an actual concern in a PVP environment. It's good to balance out non-rating advantages or features though, like the advanced sensors and ship construction abilities of this station.

Based on that, we need to lower around three ratings, taken from wherever you'd like.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m having a one day LOA due to my chronic pain becoming, well, chronic enough I can’t leave a horizontal position. I’ll think through what you’ve said when brainpower returns in 12 hours or so.

The short answer is that I just copied the stats from the ‘update to 4.0’ app before me, as I didn’t know how stations were built and that sub had passed (not expecting anything based on precedent, just explaining I didn’t have any particular reasoning) I am happy to alter as appropriate to bring into line with 5.0.

Affilitation discussed with the ME staff and updated to Mandalorian Empire.

Stats re-worked to balance with 1000+ capship excel sheet, which results in weapons dropping to average and hanger going to extreme, as your comment about the shipyard made me think any hanger short of extreme couldn't realistically represent the space devoted to that.

If you feel the shipyard is a strength that needs an additional weakness, I can put something in for that.
