Ayden Cater
Grumpy Goat
Ayden grunted, the knuckles of his hands white from tension, as the ship shuddered violently. When the report came in that a planet had been discovered, rich with minerals and new technology, naturally Ayden's curiosity was peaked. However, before a calm, diplomatic solution could be reached, reports came in from Sith fleets making a break for the system. Likewise, reports came in that several other factions, including the Black Suns and the Atrisian Empire had set their sights on the planet. If they had their way, Valen would be destroyed and looted. Unwilling to let that happen, Ayden put out the alert and mobilized the Protectorate military. Every indication said that the people of Valen were peaceful and did not know war. Unfortunate for them.
War was coming to Valen.
It was a testament to the violence of the storms in Valen's high atmosphere that even on the bridge of a Herald-class cruiser, he could feel the ship buffeted by fierce winds. Others on the bridge were equally shaken. Some were understandably nervous, since conventional wisdom said being on a capital ship as it descended into atmosphere was a bad idea. But the Corellian had faith. He knew that the ship could easily set down gently on the surface. Another jolt nearly knocked him on his ass, causing him to scowl. Provided the storm didn't knock them out of the air first.
"One of our landing cruisers is going down." The tension on bridge doubled as Ayden made his way over to the com officer reporting. "What happened?" The man tried to get ahold of his nerves, but was clearly shaken by addressing the Lord Protector. "I-I'm not sure, sir. They issued a general S.O.S, but their com array must have been damaged or something, cause I couldn't make much of it out. I think a fire near the reactor knocked out their main power." For one ship, it would seem conventional wisdom would continue to hold. "Alright. Helm, as soon as we're clear, I want you to find us an open space to land. I want recon and rescue birds in the air as soon as we're clear of the turbulence."
A scattering of "Aye sir."s came from around the bridge as Ayden mused the near future. The Republic would be on the planet too, no doubt about that. His top priority was linking up with the Republic and Mandalorian forces and coordinating their defense of the planet. After a few moments in thought, Ayden realized that all was quiet on the bridge. A look outside the glasteel viewport confirmed that they had broken through the storms. What he saw was breathtaking.
"Alright. Start deployment of our initial forces. I want a FOB set up and running inside a standard hour. Coordinate with our forces as they make it to the surfaces. I want damage and casualty reports every hour, and I want recon updates every half. We have a lot of ground to cover and not a lot of time. The Sith are probably already on the planet and doing the same things we are. We have no time to lose, as every minute they're entrenching themselves and culling the local populace for their dark whims. We've got a planet to save. Let's get to it."
