- War Forge: The Fortressa is a foundry and warship bundled into one massive hull. Having been fitted with molecular furnaces, self-regulating makers, dedicated repair crews, and large staging areas, it is more than capable of producing a wide variety of weapons, droids, and vehicles. Furthermore, the Fortressa possesses all the trappings of a battleship - from capital firepower to extraordinary defenses.
- Swarm Warfare: To fulfill its role as Flagship, the Fortressa emphasizes extreme hangar capacity over all other combat areas. The strategem of the Confederacy, revolving around Swarm warfare, has led to the most featured vessel aboard the Fortressa being the Taera.
- Behemoth: A combination of two factors has rendered the Fortressa painfully slow: its sheer size and the presence of only three, dedicated engines. For this reason, speed and maneuverability are among its more glaring weaknesses.
- Offense: While the Fortressa excels in the areas of defense and hangar capacity, its own capital armament is glaringly average.
- Blindspot: Most of the Fortressa's defensive strength lies in its shields and countermeasures. As such, its emplacements cannot "see" the rear of the vessel effectively, thereby leading to a complete reliance on escorts to protect its engines.
- Labor Intensity: While the Fortressa is more than capable of producing the materials required to restore damage incurred on the battlefield, the act of installing said materials takes an exceptional amount of time.
- Build Capacity: While the Fortressa is theoretically capable of creating anything, in practice the vessel can only accommodate creations no larger than ten meters.
Long ago, when the battle between Clones and Droids yet tore the Galaxy, the Confederacy elevated its forces. In the beginning, it relied upon what corporate assets it could spare - hastily fitting transports and freighters with arms. Yet, as the War grew ever fierce, the Separatists began to devote time and true thought to their assets. Thus, one of the most iconic designs in the whole of their Navy came to be: The Lucrehulk-class Battleship. Born from the frame of a transport, it soon became synonymous with their command structure and a symbol of their might.
Now, centuries later, the Confederacy uplifted it forces once more.
The Fortressa was born by taking the spirit of the Lucrehulk's wartime design and expanding it to a massive degree. The ancient vessel's strengths were such that it was the primary engine of planetary blockades. Its sheer size and capacity for armies or vessels made it the perfect means to starve out an enemy. With these strengths in mind, the Fortressa was built as a champion of blockades. As a Super Star Destroyer, every effort was made to make room for an exceptional number of starfighters, vehicles, equipment, and personnel; so much so that it can arguably field an invasionary force alone. In addition, the design teams wanted to make absolutely certain that its presence on the battlefield would be lasting. To this end, a plethora of countermeasures and top-of-the-line defenses were incorporated into the finished product.
But...fielding the forces inside requires resources. What happens when the enemy cuts down the swarm? What happens when reinforcements arrive? What happens when time moves on and the siege has not ended?
The Fortressa had an answer: Self-Sufficiency.
In addition to committing the overwhelming majority of its emphasis on complement and defense, a total of fifty percent of the ship's ring carrier is actually dedicated to manufacturing. Molecular furnaces, self-regulating makers, and a plethora of droid personnel enable the vessel to keep the war effort alive for extensive periods of time. The Fortressa can cannibalize retrieved craft and convert them into the means to repair itself - or to replenish what it has lost. And, while the process of either task takes an extraordinary sum of time, it is significantly better than ending a siege due to lack of supplies or support.
In all, the Fortressa is a symbol of the Confederacy's natural evolution. As its battles rage on, so too does its innovations.
