Artemis Lux

It was unexpected and strange, the way that Braxus spoke to her now. Artemis half-expected him to scoff, to laugh at her private indulgences, to dismiss the pursuit of art and culture as foolishness with the wave of one of his large, tanned hands. He did none of those things. Instead, he looked at her with what appeared to be interest, acceptance, and, if her eyes weren't deceiving her, subdued admiration. Even his words were affirming and supportive, where previously they had been barbed and armed for insult. Most men in his position would have scoffed, laughed, or dismissed her. But Braxus--for all his strength, power, and dominion--did not appear to be like most men. Within the privacy of their small corner of the table, the fight in their hearts that had raged for each other seemed to dwindle down to a single interested spark. It burned back and forth between them, growing stronger and warmer with every exchange.
For a moment, Artemis was silent; she merely returned his gaze, the intelligent emerald of her eyes searching his face for any sign of pretense or deception. She found none there. Underneath his gruff exterior, she found only sincerity. From deep within the trenches of her heart, a faint smile surfaced on the rosy bud of her lips. It was small, faint, but noticeably different from any smile she had offered him before; it held up no walls, no armor, no razor's edge. Artemis--fierce, proud, bellicose Artemis--would never be a meek or maudlin woman, but as she smiled softly at Braxus, it was evident that, behind closed doors, she could be a gentle one.
"Taylir ni gebi, bal Ni malyasa'yr am ca'nara at gar eso, ner Re ti'pur."
("Keep me close, and I would change the times at your side, my Lord.")
Artemis murmured, eyes flashing, confidence and strength inundating every roll and curl of her accented voice.
"Tome, mhi liser athu'neha ku'nr at rie lovik."
("Together, we can bring the galaxy to its knees.")
