The job hunt

Nar shaddaa. A world full of dirt on the worst kind of scumb. Even ones who aren't lowlifes turn bad eventually here. "So going to get my self in the grid here. Such a fortune to be made." She said quietly to herself as she walked the busy streets. Homeless sat on almost every corner, gangs roamed about like they owned this area. Even blaster scorches painted walls. She had been keeping tabs in companies with high positions available. One caught her eye and it's head quarters was here. She didn't get it. Of all places Nar karking Shaddaa.

she entered the building with a smile and a bounce to her work. "Hiya. Urm I wonder if it would be possible at all to speak to the maagerrr?" The lady looked at Celty with a blank expression before sighing. "May I ask what it's about?" Celty nodded giving off an energetic vibe. "Sure. I'm here about the job. That's been advertised." Her attitude and personality made people think she was an innocent civilian. No one knew who she was. Dedata's reach was about to extend. This company was about to help her if she could get an in.

There was a recent issue with a local gang getting cocky and feeling they owned the area around John's company headquarters. This had happened while he was away on business. It was going to be corrected soon. John tended to keep his nose out of the gangs and their petty affairs, but they had roughed up a couple of his workers when they were coming to work. Ashhearth Industries was one of the few companies on Nar Shaddaa that remained mostly legal in what they did and could get workers clean jobs. John intended to keep it that way and part of that was having a safe environment for his workers to work in, the dangers of the salvage job not included. So while those street rats scurried around looking for a piece of blue milk cheese to gnaw on, he was in his office getting ready to remind them that the area was off limits to their kind.

John was checking out the condition of his rifle and pistols when a call came in from his secretary. He set the rifle down next to the rows of slug round filled clips for both it and the pair of pistols nearby. Thermals gathered up into a small stockpile that looked to be enough to wreck the office several times over. He pressed the com and listened as the situation was explained to him. A young woman came in looking to be hired for an opening that had been advertised. What job was that for exactly? They didn't have a current need for more on the salvage crews. The factories were comfortably employed right now as well with the sudden demand for his company products. Pilots were all ready to go and they had enough to not be in a real need that they would advertise for. What exactly could this woman be on about? Information division. That was what it was about. He had forgotten about it since it was a job that needed some lower end employees for but was getting by right now without them.

John said over the com, " Send her in. I will interview her." He heard the confirmation and then went back to checking his weapons over again. The rifle was good to go as were the pistols. Now to check the clips and thermals. He just needed to wait for her to arrive so he could get the sudden work over with and get to the main task of the day, Pest control.

The woman buzzed her in and gave her directions. With the same bounce in her walk she romed the hallways. As she turned the last corner there was a terminal without a camera overlooking it. A smirk struck across her face as she placed a small device on the underneath. Long as she was in the building she had access to some files. After all the position was for information and what best way could she be informed than files from the company. Of course she had to selective what information to use. Celty continued to walk before coming to the door. She'd knock twice before entering. "Hiya. I'm here about the job." Going further in she stood by the desk with a smile on her face.

"Ohh where's my manners." She held out her hand reaching over the desk to give the man a handshake. "My name is Celty Ree." She pulled out the chair and sat down. "I've seen that your advertisement has been up for some time and I found it interesting. My last job never utilized my skills well and didn't offer much of a challenge. I needed a change of pace ad I think this company could offer me just that." She said enthusiastically. If only she was in the comfort of her makeshift home. She didn't have to pretend. But if she got this job she'd have to keep it up for three whole months.

As John was finishing up his inspection of goods while waiting for this sudden applicant for a job, an alert went up on his screen. He set down the thermal he had in hand and looked at it. Someone was trying to hack into his systems and download information. He raised a brow at this. The timing was too good for him. This was clearly the work of the new recruit on their way to his office. There was a few terminal panels that could be accessed without being seen scattered around after all. He worked the firewall so that it would allow them to see only the public records if they worked on it a bit but completely crush it if it attempted to hit up any records that were more private. He didn't know if this person was a corporate spy from another company or not after all, although he did highly doubt that to be the case. He went back to his desk and looked over the weapons on it. Seemed he was going to have to give this interview more attention than he had originally planned.

As [member="Celty Ree"] walked into his office, John studied her over quickly as he looked up. A young woman with a cheerful attitude it seemed. Swindler likely. Nar Shaddaa had plenty of those after all so it made sense. As she went on introducing herself after she extended her hand, John just looked at it without ever taking it. Instead he picked up one of his pistols and began to inspect it. He knew it was working perfectly, but he wanted her to see that too if she knew firearms any. Slugthrowers were uncommon in the galaxy but some still understood them. Even if she didn't though he was keeping it in the center of her vision as much as possible. Time to see how she reacted to things.

" How did you find our job advertisement?" John asked as he picked up one of the pistol clips off of the fully covered desk. He said as he pushed the clip into place, " What qualifications do you have that makes you think you are worth the hire?" The click of the clip snapping into place sounded as he finished talking. He pulled back on the top of the gun causing it to load a round into place. As he let go of it, the sound of metal striking metal echoed from the weapon as he pointed it at the wall behind the woman. His aim was missing her head...barely.

The man obviously wasn't the traditional type with the hand shake and his various weapons across the table made him look a bit of a slob. She watched him fiddle with one of the guns. A small one. Make and model she had no idea. After all she had no use for weapons, code was her ammunition and information was her bullet's. Her back was straight and hands on top of her data pad . She remained still looking at the man in his eyes. Celty was glad he started off with basic information. Stuff she didn't need her data pad for that she was waiting to vibrate. "I found the advertisement on the holo net. I was curious when something from nar shaddaa showed up on jelucejobs. After reading it I was really interested." She wasn't lying and was something that could be checked. "I have a masters in software and a straight student in one of the leading privet schools on jelucan. Basic, math, history, art, music. All top marks." She took the folder from under the data pad and put it on his desk opening the cover so he could see for himself. It held all her qualifications and all of the certificates were legitimate. "I hope you don't mind but I've taken some notes on my data pad to help me with the interview. I like to be prepared and organized so I like keeping what I can in the same place." Of course the device was working. Now to see what obstacles waited in her way. Throughout it all she didn't seem nervous, distracted or anything. She was composed, relaxed and still enthusiastic.

The firewalls were still blocking the device out of the public files. John knew this was happening because he had not been informed yet by a little beep that it had been taken down. So the only thing that was an issue was how this [member="Celty Ree"] was seemingly not bothered by his pistol nor it being pointed at her. Interesting thing to note. She went on about her qualifications by an institute of higher learning, which would be impressive if it actually told John about her actual skill level. Learning from books never prepared someone for the trials of the real galaxy. Her attitude and experience didn't completely match up for John, which was not exactly a good thing.

" Is that suppose to impress me? I could print off a piece of paper that can claim anything I want it to. That doesn't tell me anything." John said as he slide his pistol into his holster and reached to pick up the next pistol off of the top of his desk. He added as he picked up a clip to go with the pistol, " Is there any way to prove your skills? If not then you can take your little papers and leave."

John just looked at her after he finished speaking. He pushed the clip into his pistol to emphasis his point. He wanted her to show him what she could do and if she really wanted this job then she was going to have to work for it. Other company owners might bend her over the desk and made her work for it that way, but not John. He was interested in knowing how well she could do the job. He also had no interest in her. If he wanted to deal with some stress he could just go visit a certain someone. So he was just waiting for her to earn the job she had come to him to get.

She tried to contain her smirk as she noticed a primitive type of firewall. She'd cracked better jokes than the one the company was using right now with this fire wall. She split her screen into a duel tab. One side code the other side a list of worlds that offered good scavenging spots that still remained in good tact.

Her thumbs would silently tap on the screen as she was looking for the back door and make herself a key to get in. As she did that Celty would look at areas that had off the record battles. "Well as a scaviging company I presume you'd look for rich bounties. If you don't mind for forking out for security then I hear athiss just had a very large battle. War does offer you profit wouldn't you agree. Also from what little I know about your company your techniques are sloppy if you re smelt it. You could filter out other materials getting the pure metals once more. Cleaning and reusing us all good but that will only take your company so far." Finally she had gotten past the firewall and into the files. She had access to low down employee records as well as a very limiting product list.

"To be honest from what products I've found in my research of your company the medical speeders and civilian Corvettes seem to be making more than your other products although that was all I could find in the time I haaaad." She soon was met by another firewall making her raise a brow. It raised her suspicion that someone had figured out the system had been compromised. If they where even a novice hacker she saw this as a slight challenge. Now she wanted to play the game. Her thumbs would once more tap away braking the code down before braking it again. It was fun to run rings around other hackers but many didn't possess the years of work she had put in. It was a dedicated career for her not just that but it was her passion. "Besides if you think my certificate are fakes you can simply see some of my work if you access my old colleges holosite. If I'm correct they still use the system. Since then I've become better. A lot better at gathering data."

She had waited to see her program to brake his encryption. "I can prove that part right now." She said. "Several years ago I wrote up a holo site for my college. It wasn't just for them but for me. You see I spent quite a lot of my life been treat like garbage. Much like the dumb karks who live out there. Anyway the websites true purpose was to gather data on the others who attended. People who was good to me I sold data to to encite their revenge while remained protected. Those who crossed me had all their dirty laundry open. Anything personal they had connected to the new system I had access into. Personal accounts, medical records, there was a lot. That was child's play. Now I hook up to everywhere I can. I make my business in brokering information. That's kinda where this job hopeful comes in. You hire me you have access to any data you need. All I need is your help getting connected. More data, more credits. Buissness. Your one of the very few who I've said this to Mr ash. Don't miss use it, saying this is no easy task and not something I advertise."

She lent back further into her seat getting comfortable. Her fingers tapped more closing cercuits to the cameras in the room. "You may call me dedata in privet Mr ash. It's what I go by the most these days."

A data broker using hacked data? Using him to further her connections? This girl was insulting John and his company saying all of that. His hires were here for his company and not out for advancing their own personal agenda. Every hire was good at what the did and dedicated to their job. They had to be for the kind of work he often threw their way and was a part of with them. This girl though was different than that. For her this job was just a tool for her, and he wasn't going to allow someone like that into his company. His company deserved better than that.

John frowned slightly as he listened to [member="Celty Ree"] speak. When she was finished he said, " You can go by whatever you want but you won't be going by it here. You can leave my office now and try to find another company to leech off of." He set his pistol down onto the desk top as he looked the girl in her eyes. His gaze spoke of the seriousness at which he spoke. He added after a bit, " If I hear or see any confidential information from my company out there that I didn't release, I will find you and I will put an end to it.... permanently."

A small smile reached her lips as he dissaproved of her intentions although he obviously misunderstood. She'd begin tilting the chair on two legs. "Mr Ash you miss understood my intentions. My work for your company would be for here and and only here. You'd get exclusive rights to my skills. I'm sure you have competition you'd want to get ahead of. Wouldn't you like to know their dirty little secrets?" The two front legs clashed back down as she lent forward. "My database would also be connected up to yours meaning everything I know you get access too as well. So in turn my network is yours. I already have jelucan and some hubs on that outer rim coalition. Really we'd be teaming up to better both our businesses. Your reach would be further."

She stood up with the datapad in hand and her certificates. Walking towards the door it would slide open. Looking back at the man another smile would creep to her face. "You know. Local grids means I can also tap into those big screens. Free advertisement Mr Ash, but I'm sure you wouldn't want that." With a few taps the holographic billboard just outside the window changed it's display with the company name on. She pointed out the window drawing the mans attention to it. Celty hesitated a moment lingering by the door. She wanted what she said to sink into the mans head hoping he'd change his mind and quick. Otherwise she'd have to look for another way to do what she does best. "Besides trust has to be earned wouldn't you agree. I took a leap of faith telling you who I am, and I've a lot to lose just from my name alone." By now he'd notice the change in her personality and the way she spoke.

Company espionage and sabotage was what this girl was offering as a reason to hire her on? John didn't trust that. She could be here working for a competitor to try and steal the designs to several of his products as well as steal some of their future contracts. The little trick of her's when she put his company name on a billboard to impress him did not work either. It was not difficult to hack into several systems around Nar Shaddaa after all. Why was she so focused on his company that she would go this far? It just reeked of suspicious activity to him. No, it was best to look more into this before he did anything.

" Everything is noted. You are free to leave. I will contact you with my revised decision on hiring you." John said as he stood up. " As I said before, i will end any information that gets leak permanently. Now if you will excuse me, I have rats to remove from my streets."

John finished getting ready after [member="Celty Ree"] left the office. He went out and secured the street. The alleys ran with a mixture of different types of blood as he indiscriminately slaughtered the gang members. His workers were now safe to walk the streets once again to and from work. It was several days after he had finished this task, and a couple of visits with his information broker, that a message would arrive in Celty's holopad saying: Welcome to Ashhearth Industries. You begin work in a week.
