Private The last memory

"Argh! hey!" the teen giggled after her foot lightly hit him in the shin, a small grimace of pain flashing over his face as he looked up to Xan with a smirk. Although, that smirk would soon fade away as she gloated about getting into CorpSec HQ and how his implemented security wouldn't be a problem "Oh, come on. I don't even have anything to hide..." he said in a rather unconvincing tone, shifting uncomfortably in his chair until he decided to ask about the training.

Xan seemed to hesitate for a few moments as the smile faded away from her lips, almost like there was something on her mind that she was hesitant in letting out. Slowly, she began to explain the importance of the mission coming up and how it was the most important they'd ever do for themselves and Darkwire. Compared to other missions, failure wasn't an option. Rather than the safety net of capture and possible escape, this was almost certain death if you didn't place your cards right. The thought of this worried Xan to the core, not for herself but for Cartri. Deep down inside something wasn't right and she didn't know why.

Both of them had trained hard and gone through many possibilities. Yet, a sense of unease was always hanging over their shoulders from the start. The plan which was set for them looked too good for any failure, and the Darkwire agents coming with them were more than capable veterans. To Cartri, he felt it was all to do with nerves rather than supersition.

The teen couldn't help but frown when Xan said he didn't want him to go and risk his life, like how he felt for her. However, it was the risk that came with the job, there was no way to tell how the missions were going to be "You're damn right I am" he said back to his mentor with a wide smile "This is what you trained me for. Now that I know how to somewhat handle myself I can't just sit back and watch the others risk their lives for a better future" he said calmly, before leaning over to shake her shoulder lightly "I'll be fine, all you need to do is think about yourself" he nodded encouragingly while leaning back in his chair to finish off the remaining scraps of his burger. Kes knew he was ready for this, Xan had been building him up for this since day one. All he needed to do was stick to his training and he'd be fine."True, you don't really want the locals seeing you suffer" Cartri laughed while getting up from his seat and walking with Xan away from the stall, beginning their short journey back to the apartment.

After a few hours, they finally made it to the front door of the apartment. On the way back Cartri struggled to keep his eyes open, and only just made it back awake in the cab. Watching Xan unlock the door he released a big yawn, his face looking exhausted from the long day of fun they had. He was thankful Xan did this for him, she didn't have to, but she made sure to make up for her mistakes. Standing behind her, Cartri let out a cheeky smirk when she opened the door, clearly waiting for the opportunity to strike when she entered the apartment. Once he closed the door behind him, he suddenly came up behind Xan and jumped on her back, playfully wrapping his arm around her throat but not applying any pressure "Well well, look who I caught with her guard down" He said in a worn out tone, his legs slowly hooking around the waist of Xan to keep him attached to the person he considered his big sister "I didn't realise the burger got rid of your senses too... I'll... I'll have to remember that..." the teen yawned before his arm went from her neck to around her chest instead "Thanks for today Xan... I mean it..." Cartri yawned again, the gingers head sluggishly falling onto her shoulder from how spent he was "Everything... everything will be...fine..." he said in a drowsy state until he couldn't keep his heavy eyes open any longer, finally giving in to the exhaustion that had been calling him for hours.

Right now, he was having the best days of his life. He didn't have much, but it was enough to make him happy and that was all that mattered.
