Mandalorian Sack of Dromund Kaas - TSE Dom of Dromund Kaas
SETTING INFORMATION
- Nexus Name: The Lost City of Kaas
- Nexus Alignment: Dark
- Location: Dromund Kaas, Beneath Kaas City
- Affiliation: The Sith Empire
- Size: Medium
- Accessibility: The Lost City's existence is only known to the Sith Emperor and a handful of his most trusted advisors, all of whom had pledged to uphold the secrecy of its location as they would any confidential state secret.
- Description: A winding labyrinthine network of caves and dead-end caverns worm deep beneath the glittering splendor of Kaas City, the remnants of the magnificence that had come before. Much of the tunnel network is littered with the fragments of the old Kaas City, primarily broken buildings that had become submerged under incalculable tonnes of rubble and then fused to the rock by unbearable and searing heat. Some of the buildings had even become part of the cave system, with some stairwells intact enough to be traversable.
But beneath those tunnels and those small caverns is a massive chasm dominated by a single gargantuan lake. Around the lake are the desiccated remains of the old Kaas City, spires and square structures that have piled on top one another as they fell, reinforced turadium supports jutting out at awkward angles like broken bones.
A graveyard to the failings of the Old Empire.
The lake itself is pitch black, no light breaking through the thick miasma that sits unnaturally still atop the lake's surface. Nothing living disturbs it for nothing living dares venture near it, save for those graced with a fierce constitution and deep connection to the Dark Side of the Force.
- Those within the immediate vicinity of the Nexus will experience a frigid sensation across their body as if the temperature of the environment had dropped several dozen degrees from the typical temperature of their body.
- Jedi, or any one of the Light Side, will find their power diminished while the temptation to indulge in acts of the Dark Side will increase in an attempt to subconsciously turn them to the Dark.
- Sith, or any one of the Dark Side, will find their power bolstered in proximity to the Nexus' epicenter.
- If one drinks from the Dark Side lake's waters, they will experience a surge of Dark Side energy coursing through their body. The lake water's viscosity is higher than that of typical water and is pitch black in color.
- Alternatively, if one is submerged within the waters of the Dark Side lake they will be completely and instantly turned to the Dark Side of the Force as the energies bound within the water suffuse their body with energies of the millions who died during the Mandalorian Sack of Dromund Kaas.
Such conversion is subject to the OOC will of the writer involved, and cannot be forced without their consent.
POINTS OF INTEREST
- The Dark Side Lake: A body of water roughly five hundred meters wide and seven hundred meters long dominates the center of the largest subterranean cavern beneath Kaas City. Its water, placid and black, is suffused with the energies of millions of dead souls who perished during the Mandalorian attack on Dromund Kaas over a decade ago. Anyone who drinks of the water, or bathes their bodies in it, will experience powerful Dark Side corruption.
- The Lost City: Bordering the Dark Side Lake's shoreline are hundreds of broken and ruined structures, the former skyline of the old Kaas City laid low after the asteroid impact that had decimated it. These desiccated skeletons of a ravaged civilization cling desperately to the blackened waters of the lake, a grim reminder of the savage woes inflicted upon those who once occupied their halls.
- The Catacombs: Branching off from the Lake Chamber are innumerable tunnels that twist and writhe deep beneath the earth, snaking down into the dark for miles on end. Without advanced mapping equipment, one would surely get lost and become prey to the Zmir, the mutated inhabitants of the catacombs who had survived for years on insects and raw flesh.
- Rating: Low
The Zmir thrive within the darkened depths of the caves, serving as an unnatural deterrent against anyone looking to explore the caves on their own.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
For thousands of years, an insignificant cave system existed deep beneath the earth under Kaas City, capital of Dromund Kaas. It was home to a minor ecosystem of cave-dwelling creatures, primarily insects, nocturnal mammals, and blind cave fish that swam through various underground waterways and springs.
Then the Mandalorians came to Dromund Kaas, eager on destruction. Their ruinous attack on Kaas City sent several districts of the city's layout crashing down into the cave system beneath it. Entire skyscrapers crumbled and collapsed to form a skeletal crown of broken civilization around a natural subterranean lake located at the heart of the cave complex.
As the surface of Dromund Kaas was buffeted by the horrors of nuclear winter, the energy of the millions of people slaughtered wholesale by the Mandalorians seeped into the earth at the site of their death. It pooled into the waters of the underground lake, suffusing it with dark transformative energies and blanketing the entire area with the power of the Dark Side.
This would inevitably come to affect the lost Humans who had fled to the cave system for shelter against the Mandalorians, for once they had drunken of the lake's black waters they metamorphosized into ravenous monsters with an insatiable lust for flesh. They proliferated throughout the cave, devouring anything and everything they could get their hands on.
When the Sith returned to Dromund Kaas, intent on rebuilding Kaas City, the knowledge of the cave was unknown. A new Kaas City was built over the pulverized bones of the old, and life began to return to the ruined world.
Then came Darth Carnifex, Dark Lord of the Sith.
His Empire reclaimed Dromund Kaas and integrated the Sith colonists who had returned before him and began to expand the frontiers of Kaas City into a far grander metropolis. In doing so he uncovered several hidden passageways into the lost caves, and after venturing into those darkened depths he discovered the underground lake, still tainted by the Dark Side; though no longer possessing the same transformative properties that had created the Zmir.
He vowed to keep the lake's existence a secret from all but his most trusted advisors and built a massive lift shaft connecting part of the cave to the lowest levels of his new Citadel in Kaas City.
