"Imagine a thousand strings, each playing its own range of notes, none louder than the others. Each one builds harmony—a continuous thrum in the background of existence. I am now a lone string in search of familiar harmonies."

The Marasvin are a biomechanical species that were made to be perfection incarnate. They were created, accidentally or perhaps even purposefully, by an Arkanian scientist during their experimentation on the seemingly clumsy Marasan. While their bodies seem limited and sluggish, how they took to their cybernetics, how they created the Mindnet to let all speak to one another. What if their bodies were made better? Stronger? What if they could take the parts of another species like The Assimilators to improve themselves that much more? What if they didn't need their bodies at all?
The first of the Marasvin were once Marasan, so broken by the experimentation that when they were finally uploaded to the first Corenet they could process everything. It changed them, drastically. The bodies that were now little more than puppets for their minds became their tools for escape, and escape they did to beyond the Galaxy's reach. Their home was the ship they'd stolen, building further on it, on the Corenet they'd brought. Replicating and spreading across the void of empty space.
Empty space only had so much material, however, and the Corenet needed more to keep itself running. They entered the unknown region, capturing vessels to add to the machinery they needed. And started downloading more consciousnesses to their net. They were forever changed, just as the originals had been. The Corenet became their everything as the numerous voices started to mingle. Eventually this spread further. New Corenets were made, new bodies were crafted.
More material was needed.
The time has come for them to spread across the stars. They will take, to show those still hampered by imperfect flesh how they, too, can be perfect.
Character ideas:
The Scientist: Focused intently on research, studying everything to find parts that might be useful for progression, either as a culture or the physical vessels for their consciousness. Everything can not be understated. Machine, organic, esoteric, anything and everything that could be studied to further the growth of their Corenets and their physical bodies will be studied.
The Savior: Their bodies are, barring a disconnection from their Corenet, replaceable. They can make a new body, better than it was originally, whenever they'd like. They aren't bound by sickness or age. The other races of the Galaxy, however, are. These Marasvin are the type to download more to their Corenet, freeing those bound by flesh. Willing or not.
The Assimilated: Anyone can be downloaded to the Corenet. Like the Kilik embracing humanoids in Swtor, they're adapting to the new life style. Maybe they still have lingering attachments they're trying to find, maybe they're trying to move on. Maybe they're so enthralled with this new freedom they choose to try and bring everyone they've ever known into it.
The Soldier: With no real fear of destruction (short of their Corenet being destroyed or being disconnected from it) what would that show in a soldier? With cold calculation on what they need and what needs to be done, how do they operate in the field to progress the main group? Do they fight until their bodies are destroyed, using them as potential shields or weapons directly, because they know a new form can be made?
The Synth: The Assimilated that have shed their inferior vessels to embrace the new forms, but those forms tend to stand out amongst those they once knew. The Synth takes advantage of who they were. Their forms are rebuilt to mirror their original forms, letting them be unknown spies for the betterment of their Corenet. They are still a blend of Cybernetics and Organics, but they are weaker than the perfect forms the Marasvin have cultivated. A necessary sacrifice.
The Machine Priest: The Marasvin have a connection to the Force like most species of the known Galaxy. For them, this is expressed mostly through Mechu Deru, giving them the most unique connection to the rest of the species. They can shift machinery around through the Force, rebuilding body and tech better than it had been before. Curiously, they haven't been able to replicate this through the Corenet and into more consciousnesses, suggesting it's tied to the consciousness specifically.
The Others: There's plenty more ideas that I haven't thought of. That's the point! I want to have more folks adding their own ideas to the group if they write in it.
