Two-Bit Con Artist
Irajah had no words. Nothing she could say, no reaction that would be useful in this situation. She'd made a small noise in her throat, taking a single step forward when he had sliced down with the knife. But she kept her distance.
A day. She had known him for a single day. Not well enough to close the distance after that.
But she didn't flee down the corridor either, just watched him. For the first time since she had walked into the clinic room, the expression on her face was fathomless, unreadable.
"I will," she said simply. She meant it, though, in that moment, she couldn't know what situation it would be. Then she turned, and headed toward the cockpit, needing to put some distance between them for a moment. It was all too much for someone she'd just met. Casual? Hardly. And Raj wasn't always good with potential entanglements that weren't.
The rest of the trip back to Dosuun was quiet. No shared stories, no recriminations. Just both left to their own thoughts. Though it was only a few meters, it seemed like a great distance.
