The Pretty Lady and the Master (Kat or Sky!)

"Master Yoda..."

Like many little ones, she'd heard the old stories of war and the like. Oh such wonderful tales, and the little green Jedi Master had always been of interest to her. She'd always liked the story of how he'd fought the Emperor before he was the Emperor. Even though he'd lost, she'd found the little Master to be incredibly brave. That story had stuck with her for years. Even now she wished to be like him.

Then Kat was standing up and walking away and then she jumped. She didn't just jump, she basically flew. It was wonderful to see. Immediately Mairra stood and Threepeat whistled. Yes, it was certainly something to see and she wanted to do it too! Jedi could fly! She'd never heard of such a wonderful thing in her life.

She stepped away and reached for the Force, and went to jump, but she only went up the same height as she always did. She tried again and again. She kept on trying because she had to keep on trying. If she wanted to be a Jedi she needed to do this, right? She was getting a little frustrated though, because it wasn't working. In fact, she tried everything she could to make it work, but nothing happened.

"It's not working..."

Kat watched closely and felt the Force around her padawan. "Let's stop for a moment." She could feel her padawans frustration and didn't want to stress her out. Stress was something a Jedi had to learn to control.

"Each Jedi has different talents Mairra. Take a deep breath. We will find yours." As Kat had been watching her she was reminded of the Shapers of Kro Var, who she had studied with for a long while. They didn't like the talents in the Force they couldn't see and many couldn't even perform those. What they could do however was something Katarine wondered if her new padawan had talents in.

"I want to change tactics." As she spoke the dew drops from the grass started to rise into the air and float all around them. "Some Jedi find it easier to manipulate things they can see. It's a more off brand practice but some Force traditions practice only this. Elemental manipulation is a very handy tool." As she spoke the water turned into shards of ice like little knives floating and ready to attack. They flew forward, froze before they hit Katarine, and then fell down like rain drops.

"Is it easier for you to manipulate the physical around us rather than your own body?"

She was frustrated. Why couldn't she do what her Master had done? Did that mean she wouldn't be a good Jedi? She didn't know but it bothered her that she couldn't do it. Before she could get really frustrated, though, the woman had stepped in and assured her that many Jedi had differing talents and they would find hers before all was said and done. She nodded her head in response.

Then Kat was raising water from the grass. She blinked in surprise as the drops turned to ice shards and shot towards her master, only to stop and then drop down to the ground in a pool of water again.

"It might be..."

She reached for the Force again and concentrated. The pool of water drew back in on itself and then flew into the air towards her hand where it coalesced into the shape of a ball. She held it in her hand, focusing on it, then reached a finger forward and drew a tendril out from the water before dropping it gently onto a flower near where she was standing. She smiled and then looked at Kat.

"I think it is much easier. This seems natural to me."

Threepeat, meanwhile, was now chasing a squirrel with his taser. Silly droid was going to cause trouble again.

Katarine smiled and nodded. "I had a feeling. See some Jedi are more fundamental, others are more what the Sith would call magical. It's all about finding your balance. I for example much prefer to use the Force in a battle than my lightsaber. It is good to be well rounded but it is important to know where your true strengths and weaknesses lie. Only in accepting both can you grow as a Jedi."

She closed her eyes and was still for a moment. "The Force surrounds and connects everything. A wise Jedi Master once told a friend of mine to extend her senses as far as she could. What she felt was her field of responsibility, meaning it was her duty to protect anything she was gifted enough to feel through the Force. As you grow you will learn your own philosophies and your own way of thinking. It is always important to realize though that the Force isn't something to cause destruction. It is a powerful help in battle but it is also important to connect with the life you are wielding. Even the water you feel has energy and life to it. You will be using living things a lot with your talents. Always remember to respect them."

"Yes," she said. "I don't like to hurt people, but I realize that sometimes I must in order to protect others."

She continued to play with the ball and then thought about what she'd seen Kat do moments ago. She'd turned the water droplets into ice. Could she do that? She thought about it, and focused on the ball in her hand. Ice, she knew, was lighter than water. It floated in water. So that meant that the molecules were more spread apart, allowing pockets of air to form within it.

Focusing the Force, she began to insert pockets of air into the ball, while pulling the molecules apart. Sure enough, the ball began to expand, and turned into an ice ball. She smiled and looked back to Kat.

"This is fun."

"I think we have found your talent." Katarine picked up her own water ball and started to mold the ice into different shapes.
"Half the fun is just playing around with it to find out what all you can do. Testing your limits so to speak."

She started manipulating the ball and it turned into what looked like a spiky sea urchin. Then she molded it into the shape of Threepeat and giggled. The droid turned back to them and beeped his disapproval, which only made her giggle more. But then she focused the molecules into a hair's thin blade of ice and threw it, with the Force, at a fruit that was hanging from a nearby tree. It sliced through it smoothly.

"Wow. What else is there? I wonder if I can make plants grow or something? Or maybe I can make it rain!"

She was kind of excited and looked at Kat, bouncing with energy.

"All things for you to play with and experiment to figure out exactly where your strengths are. I encourage you to test your abilities often. For now though we should talk about combat. Tell me what do you know about lightsaber?"

She blinked at Kat.

"Lightsabers? I know that they're dangerous... I've only ever seen one of them before."

Nervously, she shifted back and forth on her feet. Lightsabers made her nervous because they were incredibly deadly and she had a tendency to hurt herself. The one good thing was that they cauterized wounds, so she wouldn't bleed out, but it would be easy to rupture a cauterized vein, which would leave her in some serious trouble.

"Barely saw that one."

"A lightsaber is the iconic weapon of a Jedi. Not all Jedi choose to use one of course, but traditionally most do. It is my weapon of choice though there are a lot of other masters here who could teach you to use other weapons."

She pulled a lightsaber out of her jacket pocket and held it up to her padwan. "This is a training lightsaber. It can not kill or maim but if you get hit with the blade it will burn your flesh. A lot of padawans feel more comfortable starting with these." She handed the hilt to her so she could examine it.

She was apprehensive, even about the training saber. Gingerly, she reached out to take the saber and held it in her hands, staring down at it. Though she said it would only burn, even a burn could be potentially dangerous. She didn't care for the weapon, but perhaps she would need to know how to use it. There might be a time where she was forced to utilize it against a Sith, because she wasn't able to do anything else. She didn't want that, but it might happen.

"Master... I should tell you that I'm a hemophiliac. Any kind of cut can threaten my life. Even a burn, if it bleeds, can kill me."

Continuing to hold the training saber, she looked up at Kat with worry in her eyes.
