The Princess and the crow

Owain

Lord High Grand Commander Esq.
He shot her a glare as she left before turning to his uncle, who was still grinning widely. "I'm going to my room. I have some reading to do," he stated simply. Also, he'd get a chance to check for bruises and aches. Maybe he should take it easy for another day before trying to...bond...with his uncle again. Elliot nodded and sat back down, resuming his breakfast, leaving Owain to silently stalk back to his room. Letting loose an explosive sigh, he dropped onto his bed. Damn old man. Damn the girl. Muttering under his breath, he picked up one of the books and opened it, beginning to read and forcing all thoughts of that morning from his mind.

As for Felicity, when she got back to her room, she burst out laughing. The look on his face! If it was that easy to get upset him, then she should have kissed him earlier. Besides. It was just a kiss on the cheek. It meant nothing at all. She was sure she couldn't possibly be the first girl his own age to kiss him like that. No way could anyone be that pathetic, even him.

So why was he so mad about it?

"They're both stupid," Celeste mumbled, rolling her eyes as she finished her breakfast.

"Yes. Yes they are," agreed Elliot, finishing his tea.

Whoever owned the library in this place had good taste, Owain grudgingly admitted. The book he was reading was dealing with the tactics employed by the Empire during the Battle of Endor, including a masterful rearguard action that allowed most of the Imperial forces to safely retreat and regroup. Space combat was certainly not his strong suit, but he held some kind of appreciation for it nevertheless. The ground battle of Endor however...that was a textbook example of the importance of reconnaissance and being prepared for any eventuality.

The youth continued to read, happy at the distraction from a certain infuriating princess.

"Do you think they'll ever stop?"
Celeste cocked her head to the side. She was done with breakfast, but not done with her tea yet.
"Fighting with each other, I mean."

In her room, Felicity was reading as well. Just because she was on break from the Academy, that didn't mean she had no homework. Truth was, she'd been slacking off since yesterday. She was behind. Not by much. She was a good student when she wasn't arguing with her professor.
Right now, she needed to read up on Naboo's political history. Being part of the Protectorate was only the most recent chapter in that history. There was a lot to learn here.

"Nope," Elliot replied.

His fingers traced the arrows presented in the diagrams, imagining the battlefield in his mind. Yes, he could see how that worked. But they hadn't been expecting such rough terrain, which led to their delay and the failure of that attack. Knowledge was power indeed. Owain smiled to himself. He had never been much of a reader in truth, much more preferring the outdoors, something that his training had fostered further. Except none of that could be indulged in here, with the accursed storms. Maybe he and his uncle could go on a trip sometime? Preferably as far from Naboo as possible, if Felicity was in fact going there.

DAMMIT. And he'd been doing so well too in keeping her out of his mind. Stupid cute blondes and their temper tantrums...

Well, that was that then, Celeste supposed. No chance of peace between the two. They'd fight forever. That was going to get irritating, especially because Celeste knew her sister. When she was fascinated by something, she just couldn't leave it alone. And she had her eye on Owain. Why? Probably just because he was the first boy her age that she'd spent more than a few school hours with.
Teenagers were so dumb.

Felicity snapped her book shut. She already knew about all this. They'd learned it last semester. Why was this part of the homework? Well, at least she knew she wasn't behind anymore. But what to do now? Maybe go bother Owain again? Why was she so intent on making him miserable?
...Nah. She could give him the rest of the morning off... at least until lunch.

Owain dropped the book. Dammit, now she was going to haunt his thoughts again. He grimaced as he sat up. No, that wouldn't do. He was NOT going to let her get the better of him, no matter what. Maybe...yes...that would make sense. The youth hopped off his bed and headed back to the kitchen, making sure to move as stealthily as possible. He was NOT going to let some arrogant brat lord her so called superiority over him, oh no. Luck was with him, as always, and he managed to reach the ktichen without any random encounters. Popping his head, he saw his uncle doing the washing up after breakfast.

"Uncle? Is there a training room or something around here?" he asked, eyes flickering about to make sure that damned blonde didn't ambush him. Hopefully she would put him from her mind after that whole debacle, and he wouldn't have to put up with her patronising tone any more.

There were only so many places Felicity could really go here. With the wind storm as bad as it was, she couldn't even explore the upper levels. The tower was entirely off limits too. Naboo could not come quick enough. Then she would have an entire city to explore. She would have hundreds of kids her own age to meet and moms handmaiden to learn from.
It was better than sitting around hoping for another confrontation with the completely arrogant and rude Owain Barnabus. If this was her only form of entertainment, then it was completely pathetic.

She wandered the halls. So much space. So empty. Mom did what she could to make this fortress look like a home, and she supposed she did a good job. But no amount of pretty decor and wall art could really fix this empty feeling. Without mom and dad here...

Well! She'd see them soon enough. At least, she'd see mom. Who knew when Dad was going to show up. Felicity didn't even know what it was he did when he was away. She'd have to ask sometime. When ever she wanted to brag about her Daddy, she never knew what to brag about. He was smart, and brave. But what did he do?

She stopped, looking at a painting on the wall. Sometimes she would do this. She had names for the art. Silly names. Really blunt and descriptive. They were all so serious looking.

This one she called 'Overly Dramatic Watery Sunset with a Really Unstable Looking Cliff and a Big House-looking-thing in the Background'. Mom said the building in the distance was where she was born. Lake Country. Her family had once had homes all over Naboo. Then mom went away to be a Jedi. She was really little. Uncle Zaiden owned these homes now, but Felicity doubted he'd ever actually set foot in any of them. And mom wanted nothing to do with it.

But that brought on the question- if she didn't like where she was born, then why hang a painting of it on the wall at all? Maybe something else to ask when she saw her next.
