The Rains of Castameer (Ground Battle) OOC

Ugohr Poof

If only Ugohr wasn't ICly in prison over some military crimes... I would probably have brought Ugohr to this part of the battle, clearing the battlefield of land mines (if there was any in the first place)

With that much snow on the ground mines wouldn't be very effective out in the open where you want to place them. The best place for them would be in the forested areas with less snow making it to the ground, but then you run into the issue of the trees blocking a lot of the shrapnel hitting the units around whoever set it off dropping their effectiveness. This battle is more in favor of ships and high speed vehicles like assault speeders or fast tanks as they can avoid too much issue with the snow slowing them down.

Its nothing special because I'm lazy.

Hex=Infantry
Triangle=Vehicle
Circle=Air/Fast Repulsor

Red= Rogue Sith
Orange=Mando
Blue= Lightside
Green= Dark Side Because I couldn't do Red twice.

[member="Gray Raxis"] The Alliance's minesweeping vehicles (subbed by my alt; they must be used by a bunch of light-sided factions by now) are repulsorlift-based and can act as tanks (so long as you remember that you can only use the tank's secondary weapon on the forward 90-degree arc while the rotating flail is activated) Plus planting minefields in the forest would force us to engage the Sith in the open since doing so would deny us precious cover.

On top of that, as we have seen on Coruscant, the Sith tends to keep minefields for their major facilities, and the spire is important enough to warrant a minefield around it.

They have forces around the citadel. If they made a minefield around it then their own units would be the ones suffering from it before we ever made it in there. Mine fields are at their most effective in open areas where you know the enemy will be coming through to your location. You do NOT want it in the path of your forces at all, and the map just doesn't really offer that due in part to the snow and in part to just how open it is on all sides. If it had fewer points of entry then a mine field would be worth creating.

I am not saying your tank is not useful or anything like that. Just saying it is not optimal for this battlefield. Too much working against the use of mines, so your tank doesn't offer much over other tanks. Now if this was a map full of rocky terrain that caused valleys and canyons, a minefield would be great and your tank would be invaluable to reduce infantry lose to them.

I'm confused, I'm trying to post but don't understand how to calculate the range of units.

If I can't figure it out I'm just going to get as close as possible and utilize the minimum range... and promptly get my ass handed to me :p

Firing Range or Movement Range?

Each Hex is 500 meters.
the minimum attack range of any unit's ranged attacks is 1 Hex.
If using factory subbbed weapons, just look at the range of the weapon and... you know... 1,200 meters would be 2 Hex's. 1,500 meters would be 3 Hex's. exc.

Movement range for each unit type is posted in the Unit Selection thread.

[member="Olivia Dem'adas"] Alright but say I have a droid Walker that lists "Heavy Blaster Cannon". It isn't a Chaos submission, and the only thing that comes close to what I'm looking for is this? Except there is no distinction for a "Heavy" Variant.

Or how about "Missile Launcher". Same situation, and the only thing that comes close is this, which is an infantry weapon.

Or how about "Slugthrower Autocannon". I mean, I'm not using that particular armament, but I can even begin to think of how to calculate that.

If it is a tank/artillery walker then I would assume 2-3 hexs would be the likely range. 1-2 is going to be standard for infantry, with 2 being more along the lines of rockets, mortars, and long ranged rifles like a sniper. I could be wrong though, but that it how I would handle it if I was using artillery units like what you mentioned.
