Just throwing it out there now, as a generalization for future reference, that it is usually best the owner of ordinance (missiles/smartbombs/etc) determine how their things operate, and the opponent determine how they counter it or how they receive damage; but not use acts of nature or control to do the former. The difference is that unlike a laser or plasma beam, such ordinance is not simply "fire-and-forget" and thus, it is a form of god-modding to dictate the continuance of such things as their player still has some sense of IC control over what happens to it.
