The Refounding of the Corporate Alliance

550_max.jpg

A meeting room deep on Wren'goa Station was the site, of the luxurious meeting. Each CEO would be given a suite in the Tanlab Hotel and Resort and a given every luxury offered at the station. It was obvious that Tanlab Industries was pulling all the stops out. Aurna Vern smiled knowing finally she had done something that would mean progress. She never wanted a government to take corporations assets again. So they would have to stick together. That and worrying moves from the Tiion Hegemony were rumored to have a scary impact on the galaxy at large. So she had invited the heads of select companies in hope to found the Corporate Alliance again. She waited for them to arrive, hoping they enjoyed their suites and accomidations.

Ice soon walked in and gave his business partner a nod and a warm smile. "Good to see you again Aurna. Also wish to thank you for the accommodations. Top notch they are." He made his way over to a chair and sat down. "So, who all we expecting today?". He had been the first to join this Corporate Alliance, but he hasn't checked up on the confirmation lists yet.

Nevertheless, he knew things were moving around the galaxy and this was the time to strike a deal. To forge new partnerships. Together they would unite, or use they'd risk falling.

The raven-haired, blindfolded woman who arrived may have seemed an oddity, especially in her black trenchcoat. There was little regard given by her as far as greetings and tidings went, and she made little of her entrance. But she did belong here.

None of the other company representatives would know of her true identity, but she had a feeling some might be aware of her alternate enterprises--particularly of a more military bent. If [member="Ice"] did not recognize Miss 'Viola' from their little holoconference contract arrangement, all the better. If he did, then at least they knew where each other stood and could reinforce the unity that was this upstart alliance of corporations. "Hello. Representative of ECHO Esprit," was all she said before helping herself to a seat.

Someone needed to do something about the galactic bully known as the Tion Hegemony. This assembly might be the beginning of the end of their dominance, and would help Geneviève a little pocketbook revenge on the people who had issued a bounty for her.

Alexandra leaned her head into her hand and looked at the side of the room while she sat there, in truth a bit bored and also a bit hungry, her eyes glancing down to her bulge, the thing only larger now as she sighed and smiled. Eyes drifted towards the woman though that was running all this, one Aurna Vern who had been of some closeness to Alli Wren... then there was Ice, a familiar face who she smiled at and nodded to. And lastly a raven haired woman she had never met. Today was interesting.

Camellia found herself sighing heavily. She had no idea really who any of these people were she was about to meet with. It wasn't normally her custom to mix and intermingle with the heads of other companies much. She knew the head of Kuat Drive Yards from their repeated business ventures, especially on the Noblesse, but mostly she worked with government and organization represenatives since most of Rendili Stardrive's products went to the Republic or Outer Rim territories. When it really came down to it Rendili Stardrive was working under its own name and authority, but it didn't seem to be enough when the Republic was still struggling against the Sith war machine. When word started up that a new Corporate Alliance was being formed she lept at the chance almost. After careful consideration it seemed like a good idea. Historically Rendili had been a major founder of the original, though that territory, along with many of the company holdings it once held, were long dispersed.

By joining and helping to found this new Corporate Alliance Rendili would maintain its reputation and also gain new business support. Maybe even expanding its holdings once more if the organization ever held any territory of its own once again. Regardless, at the very least the support and cooperation of other corporations actually was something Camellia very much could use right now regarding several of Rendili Stardrive's ongoing projects. So upon reaching the meeting room on Wren'goa Station, Camellia gave a slight bow to those already assembled before taking her own seat at the table, a datapad tucked under her arm. She wondered if her choice of military dress would bother anyone? She wasn't sure if anyone had a problem with a Republic Planetary Defense Fleet Officer also being a CEO. "I'm sorry if I delayed anything. Am I the last to appear?"

Anastasia accompanied [member="Geneviève Lasedri"] to the meeting of the hopefully start of the Corporate Alliance. It was the first meeting that she was attending as ECHO's new CEO. It would be good to start getting her face out there.

She knew Ice as a fellow Mando but the rest of those in the room she had never met before. It didn't surprise her, this part of the galaxy was newer to her. Ana was a fan though of this idea of unification. If they could stand under one common cause it would definitely be something. She was interested in hearing the others ideas.

Matsu was interested more in why she was invited... she wasn't a corporate type she didn't make credits with her company like others it was for those in need. That helped set them apart and that they were willing to take scraps in exchange for tax write offs and giving deductions. No credits need be made just a simple exchange of goods while she walked into the room and stood for a moment taking everyone there is while the black glistaweb trench coat was over a shell spider bodyglove with her belt and equipment underneath. Her hat was on and tilted so an eye peaked out from under the black curtain of hair. She took a seat moving her hand to pull the chair out and then bring it back in.

Taeli strode into the conference room, her lilac dress a sharp contrast to the usual clothing of a Sith, but she felt it only appropriate she arrive unarmed and approachable. Spotting her host, Taeli made her way over to say a few words.

"Thank you for the invitation, I'll admit it was a surprise that you would allow a Sith company a chance to join this alliance," she said. Moving off to sit next to [member="Alexandra Lianne Feanor"], she took note of the others within the conference room. Force presences told her at least several people here were just normal CEOs, but she could tell at least one Jedi and one member of the Republic was present. If they didn't start anything about a Sith being at the table, she wouldn't say anything negative to them.

"A full house then?" she whispered to her partner, taking the seat next to her.

Aurna looked at her amulet holding it for a moment wondering if she should do anything about the gift from her aunt's friend. Any one scanning Aurna would detect her being force sensitive but every part of it unnatural, as if someone had forced it to happen. She however wasn't aware and thus just smiled at all of them. "Thank you for coming, I am glad to hear you enjoyed the accommodations. Now, I am sure you have all heard what has happened several times now, first the CIS did Operation WeedKiller, then the Omega Protectorate confiscated every Baktoid facility in their space. Then the ACA forced the sale of Baktoid when it needed a scapegoat. Then recent moves that resulted in the destruction of Subach Innes. Governments have gotten to use to doing what they wish with corporations. That is why I wish to relaunch the Corporate Alliance. A Political alliance, in which we will support each other should a government try this, in any way possible. Be it 'buying' each others facilities or any other measure we deem necessary. So as part of this Alliance I deem we start a joint security force to protect our interests, and that sign the founding consitution dictating our structure, we are all we equal, on a board. So once you all sign the document, the first thing to do is to elect the first chair of the Corporate Alliance. We will of course have other officers but the first one we need is chair, and then of course 2 others. A Security Force Chair and a Diplomatic Chair. The three Chairs will make most day to day decisions, and any of the three may call a board meeting of all member corporations at will. Now any questions before we get started?"

The document details every thing that could come up.
"The board elects a head chair out of the founding companies l every other year. To add a new member, a majority vote by the board must agree that said corporation may join and they gain member status. Should they prove themselves on a Majority vote of the founding companies, that company may gain founding status. Though no company may gain such status until they have been a member for at least 2 standard years. All companies present here are immune to this clause and join the Corporate Alliance as Founding members and thust gain every advantage that goes with that status." The document went on and on about procedures and beneifits and how to handle all sorts of matters.

It appeared as if she wasn't the last to arrive after all. The arrival of a Sith company was not something Camellia had been expecting though. At the very least Rendili Stardrive's CEO would not have thought they would have so loudly and boldly made their status as a Sith Corporation known. It made her grit her teeth though she did her best to hide it, she hadn't invited the woman here, and she had no say in the matter. Still, perhaps this meant good news if the Sith's Krayt Industries wasn't state run then maybe there was some hope for them after all. What followed after the final arrival's appearance though was perhaps more unexpected however.

For one thing, Camellia wouldn't have thought the very first meeting would start off with such a rather intense topic. Everyone just got gathered and already they were going to argue over who would be the chairman? In all honesty Cam figured they would have worked directly as a council or board and always worked through majority. Judging from what their host said, and what the documents handed out indicated, it would seem the chairman program was certainly what they were working with. "Well this is turning out to be a rather exciting and interesting first meeting. Can we get an elaboration of the duties each chair will be maintaining, along with any qualifications one must have to hold them. Then I would assume it would be best if the selection or election process would be properly explained. I do agree with the basis of this Alliance, to prevent any one of us from being overrun by government entities, whether political or military, or from other large scale organizations of similar origin as ourselves."

[member="Camellia Swift"]

"I am sorry for being rather sudden. I just want to ensure that someone is responsible for any joint resources or programs incase our board can't make, and then can take responsibility for some decisions. The Chair, of the board, can be any of us, that we trust enough to make Corporate Alliance decisions should the board not be able to meet or if something happens to any joint programs or assets in case of emergency. The chair of our Security Force should at least be proficient in administration of a military force. The Chair of Diplomacy is to be charismatic and accomplished at negotiating. They are the one who we will send out to make any deals or talks with outside groups on behalf of the board. Ultimately the Board has final say and all chairs are answerable to the entire board. But in emergency's we need a clear short term decision maker, thus the chairs. "

Matsu looked at the document and others at the table mostly because of them... she didn't have large facilities, she didn't have millions of employee's or stocks just her teams and the equipment they produced. "I do not know what you are hoping for from me? Sasori takes scraps and junk in dontations for companies to have tax deductions then produces whatever equipment they can for others. We have no soldiers, no fleets and no defense force since most equipment is hand crafted. The best I can offer is taking from the table several companies junk and scrap to our warehouse on Raxus and reworking it."

Taeli read over every word of the document, noting benefits and such that would no doubt help Krayt Industries grow.

"I would recommend we pick a neutral party as chairs, not someone that has any direct ties to one of the major powers," she said slowly, expecting some surprise from a Sith saying they didn't want all the power or control. "I think I speak for Alex when I say Krayt would be perfectly happy to design and field ships for a combined defense force, on par with any contributions from Rendili."

Nodding her head [member="Camellia Swift"], she was trying to show good faith in any dealings. She might be Sith, but she understood there was a time and place for such rivalries to affect things. This wasn't one such area, she was hoping to put Krayt on a new direction, one that would both increase the power of the Sith, but also increase the company's standing amongst the other galactic corporations.

"Sith..." Gen muttered under her breath, just loud enough for her CEO to hear. This assembly had just gotten a little less appealing.

She hated Sith. A Sith had almost killed her, and there was no way she was going to be complacent with one of them among this Alliance's numbers. But she could not afford to show her hand, and this was one of those moments when deliberation might be necessary. Leaning a little towards Anastasia, the blindfolded owner of ECHO Esprit sought to consult in her executive. "The less we speak out, the better. But we need to flex our arm when it counts," she whispered, then took a moment to concentrate on each form in the room through her 'eyes' in the Force. Who did she trust most?

Retaining her hushed tone, she continued with her personal assessment of the strategy going on. "It may suit us best to let the Sith argue for her fleet, but we may want to establish a little friendly mention for Ice to form a little unity." The meeting had barely started and there were already some politics going on. "What are your thoughts?"

She smiled but did not speak out in agreement with Taeli, her eyes even focusing in on the girl and waving her hand for her to quiet for a moment before breathing in and rolling her neck back. "I think it would be better if we drop the entire Sith/Republic/Whatever you belong to thing... its going to serve none of us positively and will only cause fighting. We are here to unite and as such the ships should be a mixture of Rendili, Krayt, and Tenlab Designs... all have their strengths and weaknesses and if we combine our efforts we will be much more effective... no?" She looked around though her eyes lingered on Taeli and a small shake of her head signaled her to think about what alex had said.

"That's what I was trying to get at," Taeli muttered to Alex so no one else heard her. "I don't want any bias in the leadership or an unfair level of contribution to mutual defense."

She knew her words wouldn't be taken at face value, being a Sith, but she was genuinely here to help establish this alliance to further business aims. Krayt was still small compared to other companies here, and she only wanted what was best for the company right now.

"Thank you clarifying what I was trying to say, Alex," Taeli said aloud. "My apologies to everyone if I was not clear."

Watching everyone and listening as well as she could, but she was still caught up in the words of Aurna Vern. It sounded like they wanted a scapegoat if anything went wrong just as much as they wanted someone who could have the authority to make the final say on tough choices. Whoever took the positions would be at most fault, but also have the most power on the board itself. A double edged sword of a position to say the least. Although getting the position would be difficult for several members present, especially after the Sith company's representative made the proclamation she did. That was truly problematic. it eliminated companies because of their preferred market pool, but it was at least understandable. Listening to everyone else's remarks on the matter left little more for her to add. "I think so long as there are limits in check that would prevent anyone from selling to their main markets would be sufficient. We can. . . understand why some people prefer to sell to some more than others. And because this is a board, the majority can always prevent total direction preferring any one group with special services unless we gain consensus through rational and logical reasoning for the preference. When it comes to the defense fleet though. . . "

This would likely be where she would be most scrutinized for speaking out. "I understand not wishing to show bias for any of us here. However, collectively our organized Corporate Alliance can only field a few ships in its own right, and our individual companies can also only field a certain number as well if I recall that most sectors under government operation nowadays has strict limitations on non-faction groups. While mixing the fleets would eliminate bias between us, maintaining the best ships to fill our limited pool is how we should approach this as businesses. That said, I'm not saying any of Rendili's ships will be better than any from elsewhere. That is up to the evaluation and decision of the board to decide what seems best. Although since it was mentioned, Rendili is willing to offer to provide several designs towards the group, specifically the Dreadnought and Muren Class Cruisers."

Ice had been listening carefully to all facets of the discussion. When everyone had spoken their piece he cleared his throat to get their attention. "Like Alex said our fleets should be a mixture of each groups ships. However, I don't think this goes far enough. We have to eliminate completely this mindset that we are from different groups if we want this to work." He paused as he calmly stood up. "In this room." He started again, but then rethought his words. "You know what no. Not in this room. No matter where we are, from now on we are Corporate Alliance. We may be from different portions of the galaxy. But we are all still the same in that we are heads of corporations. And that is how we need to think. It doesn't matter where we are from. We are all in this together. If we wish to keep governments from taking what is ours, we must think that way."

Ice took a deep breath as he pondered the roles of fleets and where they come from. "Each corporation providing their owned in house designed ships for protection of our assets will work for now. But I believe if we are to truly get into the mind set of cooperation, we need to build a new fleet that will represent us as the Corporate Alliance. A fleet built on the technologies of all groups. In essence we won't have a Rendelli Cruiser fighting beside a Sith Frigate, or vice versa. We will have only Corporate Alliance vessels with ship components from all the corporations included into each and every design. I think we should still keep our individual corporation designed vessels as it shows to the nations our corporations are headquartered in that we are still providing them with what they need. This should alleviate suspicions that we might be a possible threat. By doing this though, it will lesson the chance that we will look at a ship and think ill of it based on nothing more than what portion of the galaxy it is from. Because it will have been built by all of us."

"So in short. Each company will have their own company ships built by whomever they wish. But the ships specifically for the Corporate Alliance must be built on the technologies of everyone. If a founding member is in need of assistance, the CA fleet will arrive to support that companies own fleet. [SIZE=14.4444446563721px] I would also suggest that CA ships cannot be made available for sale since they incorporate our highest technologies. And as Camellia pointed out earlier, we can only field so many. So we'll need every advantage we can muster. This would also alleviate any tech copyrights each company might have."[/SIZE]

He then turned toward [member="Matsu Ike"] and said, "Matsu, this is a perfectly fine contribution. Tax breaks help us as corporations all the time. Not only that, but since you seem to indicate how inconspicuous your company is. You might be a perfect candidate to make us specialty items perhaps. Big corporations tend be under a lot of scrutiny. But you give us the opportunity to get equipment from a place where there aren't many eyes. Not only that, but you also provide us with a valuable PR tool. You give us the chance to look good by donating, and you look good by taking these donations and possibly making things that help the common people. So overall, you give the Corporate Alliance a good name and image."

"As for the previously mentions chairs." He stopped that as he brought a hand up to his chin in thought. "For the 'Security Chair' I would recommend [member="Camellia Swift"] . I know she has experience in military matters. [member="Taeli Rae"] might be another possible candidate, but I am less familiar with her experience. So I can't rightly say there. For the 'Diplomatic Chair', I would recommend [member="Alexandra Lianne Feanor"] as I have personally worked with her on some diplomatic matters and know her quality. [member="Matsu Ike"] however, might also be another good option. Though like Taeli, I am less familiar with her qualifications in the area. And for the 'Chairman Role', I would like to nominate either [member="Aurna Vern"] or myself. We are both politically neutral on the major galactic scene. Now I won't speak for her experience, but I know for myself. I have been involved in a couple high political positions within smaller nations and have quite a bit of experience in this role. But obviously, I will leave that vote to you all."

He then took his seat once more, curious to see how things would go now. He had actually thought of [member="Geneviève Lasedri"] for a couple of the chair positions. But figured due to her current position would rather maintain a low profile. Such was his reason for not mentioning her.

[member="Ice"]

Honestly while the speech was quite riveting and what not, Camellia couldn't really invest herself in it. So far she hadn't felt taken very advantage of by the Republic, and she seemed fine when doing business with the Silver Jedi and private investors. In truth she was really supporting it to expand her shipwright's market. Rendili Stardrive was very much restricted in the Core Worlds as of late. She very much wanted to build some smaller shipyard stations out in the Mid and Outer Rim territories. However, it was hard to gauge what Mid Rim worlds were worth building over and the Outer Rim was outside Republic protection, although several worlds of the Silver Jedi might likely accept a Rendili Space Dock being built over them. In truth Ice's speech he was giving would actually be beneficial if she really felt bullied, but at the same time this would only make them bigger targets unless they could throw weight back.

It did leave Rendili Stardrive's CEO wondering though, if Krayt Industries was here because the Sith were keeping them under reign then. That would certainly be interesting. What was less interesting though, and more alarming, was the sudden statement of their technology rights being alleviated. Sadly she was going to have to disagree, but she was going to be polite enough to let the man have his peace first. It wasn't a surprise when he nominated her for the security chair, or himself for chair of the board, but it was interesting to note who he supported for the diplomatic seat. Camellia had her feelings about the two, but knew little about them other than maybe recalling word about matsu and believing that it looked like Alexandra was Echani, but then that was perhaps bias from the white hair. . . .

"I don't think it will work quite so delicately." Hopefully she wasn't just going to seem like a. . . .well ungenerous word for speaking up, but at the same time she knew that to some degree the others would feel the same. "It is understandable we want to make our own ships the very best we can, and I'm sorry to further delay talk about the chair positions, but there are going to be some components each company will wish to keep regulated and secret as a part of their trade that gives them an edge in their market. Rather than presenting our technologies to each other. I think it is better that if you insist upon the contribution of multiple bits of our components, that each company produce the technology themselves and transport them to where our ships will be constructed. Then if anyone does suddenly start producing copies or imitations of our special technologies we would see a betrayal of trust. I find that better than any company losing their special components by providing everyone with the data and schematics for them. As to the construction of the ships then though. . . . .if I recall correctly Rendili Stardrive and Krayt Industries focus the most on their development, and Ice, your own company is closely following I think. If anyone cannot produce ships themselves, or manage the size of some of the larger ones we would develop. They should mention so now and we can clear up contracts to provide for them. It shouldn't be too much of a problem since we won't be able to field many as it is, but all the same I believe we can at least equip each board member with a Corporate Alliance vessel each under the current Galactic Laws correct?"

That should settle the issue of the Corporate Alliance's fleets. Everyone could still technically make a joint ship with the best tech, but no one would divulge secrets on their special technology, and anyone skimming off other's work and profits would be an untrustworthy member liable to be dealt with. The second part about the others was mostly because she was already assuming from what Matsu said that the woman's company could not produce a ship for themselves, and perhaps the remaining members couldn't either, so if they might as well know now so they could plan how to get them those ships. Which only left the chairs issue. "I won't say that I'm not biased. I am a dedicated member of the Republic and Rendili Stardrive prides itself on providing many of their military vessels. However, if you meant what you said in the grand speech before then if everyone were to follow that philosophy of putting the Alliance first then anyone is eligible for the board chair. I still do not nominate myself for it though. I have close ties to the Republic, the Silver Jedi, several core worlds, and a few private investors. I'm taking a risk as it is considering Republic policy, but I believe my position can also be of use to them by increasing Rendili Stardrive's market base. Thus I eliminate myself to avoid conflicts of interest, issues with the rest of you concerning my loyalties, and because it would be too much work with my other dedications. I would like to offer my services as either the Security or Diplomatic seat if needed. I would also support nominations for Matsu or Alexandra for the Diplomatic Seat, and either Aurna Vern or Alexandra as Chairwoman. I have a good feeling for the both of them, and I feel their positions make them ideal considering from the outside they would not worry any government or faction who saw them take power here."

She also left out rumors she heard about Ice's attachment to some, but then it was only word of mouth and hearsay to her in the Core, plus it would just seem. . . . .weird from the outside if the only man of the group was suddenly in charge of so many women surrounding him. They might think he was up to no good. The thought made it difficult to restrain a smirk.

[member="Camellia Swift"]

When Camellia finished, he spoke up once more. "Just to clarify, I never meant we need to hand over the specs and research of all our work to each other. I agree, and it's what I meant about the ships being built by all of us that we all provide equipment. Not the data and research on how they were designed and built. My apologies for the confusion."
