Invasion The Rim War: Revenge of the Empire | EotL Invasion of TAC-held Garn and Maldra IV | Chapter 3

853DQ0p.png
Location: Citadel of Rur
Objective: Capture the Computer Core
Tag: Braze Braze

Evelina gave a low growl as her sonic chakram was simply bounced away from the Echani’s gauntlet shield, failing to release the impact-triggered shockwave which might have potentially knocked her opponent off-balance, broken the bones in his arms, or even just stunned him. Instead, the shockwave’s failure to discharge allowed her target to quite easily counter the energy chakram which arrived in the sonic chakram’s wake by catching and spinning the circular blade before swiftly hurling it back, causing the weapon to slice a deep, fiery furrow the nearby wall.

And it was just her luck that her second chakram’s trapped grip failed to activate in the process.

"Woah, hey now—that's dangerous!" Braze scolded, grinning. But he wasn't staying on the defensive; extending his hand, he focused, attempting to wrap her in the Force and lift her off the ground.

Evelina didn’t stop. The mission—the computer core—remained near the forefront of her mind, with all of its implications, secrets, possibilities, and promises.

Among them being promises for revenge.

Thus, Evelina immediately moved to bring up her right arm, only to find it held in place by an invisible, preternatural force. At the same time, she felt her body drawn up from the ground by the same means, coaxing a frustrated growl from her throat. Nevertheless, the assassin gritted her teeth, her enhanced musculature straining against the telekinetic binds which sought to hold her place as the one who had imposed them mocked her efforts in the process.

“This...is for...the Emperor!” Evelina grunted, her voice strained, yet defiant. It was only then that a loud, piercing howl tore free from her lips as she summoned every bit of her augmented strength to will her arm upward, before pointing it straight at the chest of the insolent, arrogant, and frustratingly lucky white-haired brat who had drawn her up into the telekinetic trap.

The Butterfly did not hesitate then in laying on the neural link-activated trigger of her repulsor projector. A powerful shockwave exploded out from the emitter in a cascading pulse fired 16 meters away from its intended target, dialed at the maximum power setting. In doing so, Evelina hoped to sending the Echani flying back via a wave of overpressure, disrupt his focus, or even smash bones via sheer kinetic pummeling.

”I am Drenn Calegemerr," he continued, his voice steady. "I offer you my name as a sign of respect" His head tilted, attempting to lock gazes with the Jedi. "And what name do you carry?”

"Jasper Kai'el," the Master stated.

He turned back a little, offering a grin.

"Ideologies are fickle things," he continued. "They change as suddenly as the seasons, or linger with the persistence of the tides of the ocean. It's rather amusing, then, that these things are so often the driving force of conflict."

This wasn't a battle of ideology. Maybe that had been the backdrop, but all of those things had faded away now. He could sense Drenn's drive as clear as day, ambition burning far brighter than any rhetoric. He was here to fight to prove themselves a victor. Both of them were. That only made Jasper shiver with anticipation. He couldn't say he felt this way about any Sith Lord in the entire galaxy.

"You're better off without the helmet," Jasper noted. "Armor slows you down... gives you a false sense of security. Your senses are heightened when you can feel the sear of plasma inches away from your skin. Nothing makes you feel more alive than being close to death..."

Jasper raised his lightsaber above his head, assuming a Soresu opening.

"Let's begin."

B/U-800 "Evelina" B/U-800 "Evelina" would find no resistance on her limbs; Braze hadn't pinned her arms or legs. After all, he didn't want to hurt her. Bullying a little girl who relied only on her toys? He thought it was rude to pick on the weak—no honor in that. Still, he'd effortlessly held her in place, his telekinesis centered on her core to keep her from darting off or hiding again.

In response to her attack, the Echani extended a hand in a fluid, practiced motion, summoning a shimmering Force barrier just as the shockwave careened toward him. The air itself seemed to bend and distort as the repulsor's overpressure wave collided with the invisible barrier, releasing a brief, thunderous crack. Despite the full force of the blast, the Echani held his stance, his focus deepening to absorb and redirect the kinetic energy assaulting the barrier.

For a moment, it seemed the shockwave might break through—small fractures rippled along the barrier's surface like cracks in glass. Yet he poured his energy into it, reinforcing it with a calm, resilient strength, and the cascading pulse of energy split around him, flowing harmlessly past on either side. Dust and debris were swept up in the wave, but the Echani remained unmoved, his somber jade green eyes locked onto Evelina with the cool resolve of one undeterred by her tactics.

"Oh, so you do talk!" he exclaimed, finally hearing her voice. "I was beginning to think you were mute," he added nonchalantly.

Braze seemed able to focus on many tasks at once, but here, he only had a few to manage—each flowing naturally as his mind shifted between them. Compared to his usual training, which was akin to juggling broken bottle whilst, blindfolded atop a trapeze wire, while deflecting attacks from all angles, this felt like child's play. The meditation crystals his gear was practically teeming with, pulsed with calming energy, sharpening his focus and centering him. For Braze, every movement and decision felt like second nature, his attention seamlessly darting across objectives with effortless precision.

Then, with a subtle flick of his fingers, he turned her mid-air, flipping her upside down and giving her a gentle shake. Using the Force, he carefully attempted to unfasten and dislodge her gear and weapons, hoping to make her a bit less dangerous without causing harm. He tsked at her as he did this.

Braze's expression shifted to a mix of disappointment and mild annoyance as he echoed, "Now then... 'For the Emperor'? You're throwing yourself into battle for someone who'd forget you in an instant?" His tone was stern, but there was a hint of disbelief woven in.

"Running around with all these 'dangerous toys' and making such a fuss," he continued, shaking his head as he held her suspended mid-air. "Do you really think that's how you win a fight? Blind loyalty to someone who sees you as expendable isn't strength; It's foolishness."

He gave her another gentle shake, attempting to further loosen her weapons. "If you're going to fight, do it for yourself, for something worth defending—not for someone who wouldn't even blink if you were gone. I thought you'd have more sense than to pick fights without a plan. Next time, come at me with purpose—not just noise."

Teckla instinctively ducked her head as the owl familiars of the Cathar Jedi flew by. She hardly lost any focus, as she instantly sent warning through the bond she’d established with Mechu Deru and the two knights. With little effort she was back in her beginning defensive stance as the retort from the Jedi came. A rather stale attempt at throwing the question back at Teckla. It seemed that the verbal portion of this battle was done with.

Makashi was designed as the duelist’s form. Even though it was not her strongest form, Teckla knew that she would be able to defend capably against the initial attacks of the Jonyna. The first move was aggressive and telegraphed. Though it couldn’t be ignored, Teckla was a talented combatant used to fanning her focus on an entire battlefield. She would make sure to negate this attack, but she was already actively looking for the next one to come. She guessed whatever the Cathar was planning would show much more skill than a power move at Teckla’s upper body.

As Teckla’s blade moved to intercept the downward slash, she saw a blur of motion from the hilt of the Cathar’s lightsaber. The trick! Teckla used the Force to push away the Jonyna’s remaining hand on the blade used in the initial attack, took a subtle step backwards and shifted her own blade into a more defensive position all in one motion. Teckla was shocked by the speed with which Jonyna shifted tactics and was even more shocked to find her blade extinguished by contact with a second, metal blade.

Already moving backwards Teckla used that slight momentum to launch herself into a Force Jump creating a bit of space between the combatants. When her feet touched ground again, her blaster was in her hand and released a defensive volley to buy time for the blade of her lightsaber to reset. Even in training with experienced duelists, Teckla had never had this happen. She furiously slammed her thumb on the power switch of her weapon hoping to hear the familiar sound of the blade coming to life once again.

Sella wasn’t quite as strong in sensing the others around her, to know what had caused the Grandmaster to divert her own attention and tell Sella and the knights to continue on. Nerves built inside of Sella, but this is what she was here for. The fact that she had no clue who the beings under the helmets of the two knights shouldn’t matter at all. Sella was there to find the computer core and secure it for research. When she was motioned forward Sella gave the Grandmaster a solemn nod and good thoughts of her safety, before she looked at her armored escort and continued forward. The computer systems in the station were archaic. Given the fact that it hadn’t been fully functional in milenia and the last documented use of the station was from the era of Palpatine.

”I think there is a bank of computers up ahead,” Sella said to one of the knights. There was a nod and the knight took the lead. Sella got her slicing tools ready and followed in the first knight's footsteps. Close behind Sella was the other knight. They reached the mentioned computers and Sella pushed ahead to start doing her work. Though she didn’t think that it would be of much use she started with the slicing tools. In the tenth century after Yavin the technology was far beyond these computers. So far so that modern tools probably would not even be able to communicate with the ancient computers. Even on the off chance that the Palpatine era explorers did find a way to modernize the station, it would still be far too primitive of programming for what Sella brought. At least that was the theory that the young scientist was acting upon. Futilely she looked for a place to interface her tools with the computer. Even the connections were not close to the same. With a sigh Sella shook her head and prepared for what she knew was coming.

Sella clapped her hands and then rubbed her palms together. She closed her eyes and using the Force reached out…to the computer. She was just beginning to make sense of the circuits and wires inside the machine when she heard the knights shift around behind her. Then the activation of two lightsabers. Light blue eyes slowly opened to see what was happening around her. Sella turned to see two avian creatures flew into the area. Sella turned quickly and reached for her weapon, but found the strong hand of one of the knights over hers as it reached her belt to pull her lightsaber.

”No Mechu Deru, your job is to work the computers and find what the Grandmaster wants. Our job is to keep you safe.”

Sella gave another sigh before nodding and pulling her hand away from the knight’s comforting touch. ”I know they say that I’m a natural at this sort of thing, but it does take focus. Can you do your best to keep the war cries to a minimum?” Sella smiled and went through the initial hand clapping ritual once more before diving in the meats of the machine.

The knights for their part took up defensive positions between the owls and Sella. They moved and twirled their weapons to create a steady barrier of defense, but not knowing what exactly the owls were they made no attempts to attack.

"Pathetic." Jonyna said with a calm tone, as she brought down her saber to once more reflect the blaster bolts sent at her. While the Force push had prevented her feint to strike true, it didn't prevent her from bringing the saber around to send the bolts fired in an attempt to stall her right back at her. Jonyna walked slowly towards the self-claimed Grandmaster. Calling yourself that, and yet falling for a simple Cortosis blade. Jonyna almost felt pity for the Imperial.

Every step, the Jedi Master walked was a careful one. In a blind of an eye, she once more sheathed Sally, and brought that hand up, Firing off a sizable chain of golden electricity at the Imperial before flicking her saber forward, switching stances from Shii-Cho, to that of Ataru, slicing at the air ahead of her with her ruby blade to launch a wave of white hot flame across the distance between them. Jonyna wasn't going to toy with someone using the title of Grandmaster. Even if they made a mockery of it, Jonyna was smart enough not to underestimate that title alone.

"You call yourself a master. All I see is a coward, hiding behind lies to inflate their own ego. Stand down, or end up like your imperial ancestors. Defeated, and begging for pardons. I am Jonyna Si. I've fought your kind before, so next time, I suggest you do more research." Jonyna didn't seem to open her mouth, and her Teckla could hear her voice from every direction. It was as if she was speaking through the air itself.

RDeoZpV.png
What appeared at first to be two owls, quickly dove down and engaged the two knights with a storm of their own making. The owls seemed to trail billowing clouds that sparked with energy, before unleashing a twin strike of lightning, firing at the Knights in a crack of thunder. The twin owls seemed to keep just out of reach, using Jonyna's own will to their advantage. While it would drain the Cathar of stamina faster, Jonyna was well enough off to take such a risk.

She wouldn't allow the Imperials to achieve their objective.

Teckla gave a mischievous grin at being called pathetic. The Cathar Jedi thought that she had seen the best of Teckla in that first exchange? It might have been true that Teckla had not as much experience in true to the death type duels, but she knew quite well that you don’t show your best with your first move, unless you are confident that the first move will end the confrontation. Though Jonyna seemed to be taking Teckla a bit lightly, demeaning her title and position as false, Teckla knew that this bout would not be ended in a single maneuver.

As Teckla steadied herself and continued to press the power button on her lightsaber, two of her blaster bolts were sent back at her. The lightsaber still sputtered and there was little time to dodge. Teckla raised her hand, turned it so the back was facing her opponent and focused through the Force. The first bolt shot away from Teckla harmlessly, but the second was merely nudged off course slightly and was ultimately absorbed by the pauldron of her armor. This caused Teckla to roll her shoulder just a bit, but caused no serious damage. With her blade now activated, Teckla returned her blaster to her hip.

Jonyna sheathed the cortosis blade and started to move forward. Lightning stringing from the hand that had held the weapon that had rendered Teckla’s lightsaber temporarily useless. This was an assault that Teckla didn’t necessarily expect from a Jedi, but she had prepared for often over the years. Her Master had leaned on Lightning as his offensive weapon. Above even the use of a lightsaber. In her training Teckla had faced this skill quite often. That said, if her lightsaber stayed dormant, Teckla was going to have to hope that her armor would be able to absorb the entire barrage. And that would leave her quite open for a follow up attack.

Teckla raised her blade pointed across her body with faith that it would come to life and take some of the impact of the lightning. And her faith was rewarded, though not all of the bolts of lightning were captured by the revived red blade. Some passed through and hit the Grandmaster square in the chest. Her armor dissipated some of the energy, but Teckla growled in pain. Her connection to the rest of the activity aboard the station was severed. Even with her high level of Battle Meditation, the pain and focus on her own battle made the rest of the mission a haze.

With all the distractions, Teckla knew that Jonyna was coming forward for another attack, but Teckla had not noticed the shift in form. It really didn’t matter, Teckla for the next few moments would be in survival mode. Expert retorts to the Cathar Jedi’s attacks were not going to be happening until Teckla could recover. The flames from Jonyna’s blade took Teckla with no resistance. Inside her armor the temperature became quite uncomfortable, but the armor itself was able to remain intact and prevented her skin from burning.

Inside her helmet Teckla’s eyes rolled at having her station challenged once again. She had kept her power over the Force a secret for some time. She had not taken a student for fear that it would dampen her own drive being forced to mold someone else to her uses and image. Teckla was no Jedi, but neither was she a Sith. There was no rule of Master and Apprentice that she needed to follow. The fact that Jonyna continued to call her title into question was becoming quite irritating. <<I am one of a kind Jonyna Si. The foundation of the Quasesitorum, which I’m sure you have no idea what it is. As that is how I wish it to be,>> began her retort also not moving her lips or creating any sound that would be heard by anyone other than Jonyna.

Teckla with her blade renewed and recovering from the barrage of lightning and steadying herself within the heat of the flames, the Grandmaster focused on her own next moves as the distance between them shrunk. <<You don’t seem to be overflowing with humility Jedi…I may very well leave this duel defeated. I will never beg. And in the big picture I will be victorious.>> Teckla also switched forms at this point. She was tired of being on the defensive. She took her desperateness, pain and irritation and focused them as she moved forward as well. These emotions along with Jonyna’s taunting would fuel her use of Form VII. A series of strikes were taken by Teckla as soon as she was close enough. Two handed strikes, flat to Jonyna’s left flank, downward towards the right shoulder, a three-sixty twirl to strike at the left flank again and then an overhead strike aiming straight through the center of the Cathar Jedi.

Sella’s consciousness was weaving through the insides of the computer they had found. It was connected to the station’s mainframe, so there was a good deal that could be gleaned from this device. The trouble was that it didn’t seem to be stored where Sella thought it should be. Luckily her connection to the machine increased the more she explored. In a way it was guiding her to what she wanted. The trouble was Sella would need to lock away the information she desired in her own memory as there was no portable storage device that she could interface with the source information. She found a station layout only to become instantly frustrated at its complexity. The hissing sigh that was expressed by her ethereal self was even carried out by her physical body.

In the “real world”, the two knights stood their ground not knowing what to think about the cloud cover that trailed behind the swirling flight of the owls. The blades of the knights did their best to intercept lightning strikes. Several avoided the active defenses and struck the knights. Pain was nothing new for these Crusaders and they managed it well. None of the attacks made it through the knights to even so much as distract the young woman furiously searching for the needle in the haystack.

Ultimately it was the severing of Teckla’s battle bond that brought Sella out of her concentration. She blinked back into the physical world with the information provided by the computer still buzzing through her brain trying to find a semi-permanent home. Feeling somewhat alone now without the constant confidence of the Grandmaster echoing inside her head, Sella turned, blinking at the tactic displayed by the avian attackers. ”Do I want to know where those clouds are coming from?” Sella questioned not having a filter for her words as she was still unconsciously processing the last of the information.

”You have what we need?” the knight who had instructed her to do her job and let them worry about the owls asked.

”All that this computer has to offer,” Sella sighed. It may or may not have been true. She had gotten enough to know that their goal was not accessible from this console. And if they were able to somehow put space or obstacles between them and the owls that would not be a bad thing. ”I know where we need to go. Any idea if those things are being guided to follow us? What sorta range they have?”

”You’re thinking above our level, PA,” the knight responded in a wry teasing tone. ”If we need to be on the move take the lead. We’ll keep you covered.

Sella nodded even though she knew the focus of the knights was on the owls and keeping her lightning free. ”Alright try to keep up. I’ll see if we can’t find a blast door or something to put between us and them. At least for a bit. After a grunt of determination, Sella turned and accessed the map that she had memorized from the computer. With another unseen nod she was off to her left knowing that the knights would keep up.

The soft smile lingered upon Drenn's face a while longer. "Well met," he said, his voice warm, the words carrying a hint of sincerity. He felt a serene calm settle over him, having finally tamed the storm of negative emotions brewing within. As he offered a nonchalant shrug, he added. “Then perhaps it’s this very fickleness that reminds us of our humanity. In the end, we’re all just searching for meaning in this ever changing galaxy.”

With a slight nod, he spoke once more. "You may be right, about that," he admitted, glancing back at Jasper. "I have caught myself retreating behind this.. shell on several occasions, just as I’ve been caught between respecting death and..the yearn to flirt it. And I certainly wouldn’t wish to numb my senses for this encounter.”

Clenching his fingers tighter around the hilt of his lightsaber, he stood tall. As the yellow blade ignited, a fierce glow washed over his being, transforming his calm features into one of lethal intent. He observed with his keen eyes as Jasper shifted into the Soresu form, a stance that spoke of patience and defense. But to him, it was also a challenge, a dare to strike first and adapt his more preferred Makashi form-- one that specialized in exploiting the most minor weaknesses.

With grace, the Crusader began to slowly pace forward, twirling his weapon, an extension of his arm now, with ease that suggested years of discipline and training. The blade whirred and sliced through the air, leaving trails of light. Drenn's muscles quickly warmed and flexed as he channeled the energy coursing through his veins. The very air around him felt electric now. The anticipation in the room became palpable, seeming to grow with each passing second.

"This moment, Jasper, has consumed my mind each night since we first crossed paths," he uttered with delight. He then transitioned effortlessly into the Djem So form, exuding his raw power. A heartbeat later he followed up with a ferocious overhead strike, unleashing the full extent of his strength, the yellow blade arching downwards to initiate their clash. The force of the blow wasn't aimed to just to connect, but also to overpower, to breakthrough his defenses. From the beginning Drenn was determined to force the Jedi on his back foot, and assert his dominance.

"I don't need to know who you are. I don't care. Soon you'll be None of a Kind, Imp." Jonyna said with a snarl in her voice, the words still echoing on the wind rather than from her mouth. "I've seen your Empires fall. I've seen heroes rise, every single time. I've done my research. I know my history, how 'bout you accept yours, as the villain of this story. Villains die, villains are defeated and humbled. Humble yourself, Teckla. That's the big picture."

The first strike was met by a sudden twirl, as Jonyna brought her saber suddenly behind her to meet the strike, before Jonyna suddenly deactivated the blade, and rocketed herself a good 20 feet into the air to avoid the rest.

She knew the Force better than most of her generation. Most who had fled for their life. She was done running. She was done hiding.

As she came down, she threw a hand forward, exerting as much pressure into a Force Push as she could to throw the Imperial off balance, before once more grabbing at her katanas. Sally would only trick Teckla once, and she needed to crack that armor. So, in another show of blinding speed, she drew her other katana, the je'daii blade that had become feared by even the sith. In a blinding show of speed, she first launched a sonic blast from the edge of the blade towards her opponent, before unleashing another series of bolts of golden lightning at her opponent's back.

She was done running. Now she was the hunter.

RDeoZpV.png
The two owls seemed to have almost no problem keeping up, flying through obstacles rather than around them. Beings of the Force need not follow the rules of matter, after all. Any terminals the three seemed to approach, suddenly sparked and exploded from electronic overload.

As the three approached a blast door, the two flew down to eye level, and suddenly all three were assaulted with a massive sonic attack that seemed to come from...everywhere, all at once. The wind twirled around them, as the owls began flying in a circle around the two, creating a whirlwind that followed them. Winds increased to that of a hurricane, slowly creating a vortex as the owls continued their sonic assault.

Jonyna knew she was stretching herself thin. She couldn't let the three get away. She wouldn't let the Imps get a victory. Perhaps it was her saving grace that the ability she had honed her fighting style around, Alter Environment, required so little concentration to begin with.

More talking down from the Cathar Jedi, received more irritation from the head of the new Quasesitorum order. Teckla knew that said irritation would continue to fuel her aggression and use of Form VII, but at large part of her wanted to stick her blade down the Cathar’s throat even knowing that wouldn’t stop the Force voice of Jonyna. Teckla was much more than a simple “Imp”. Enough so that she knew that many combatants used their opponent’s anger and frustration to goad the opponent into making mistakes. There were many dueling tricks that Teckla might be caught in their web not being experienced enough in the subtle movements at full speed and with everything on the line. But she would not allow herself to be baited into the anger trap.

As irritated as Teckla was becoming with the “words” of Jonyna, she was quickly focused by the skill with which the Cathar Jedi Master. Though this time it was Jonyna who was creating space, Teckla had little doubt that she would counter attack quickly. And from behind if Teckla didn’t hurry. Paws had hardly touched the floor when Teckla felt the wave of Force energy pushing into her back. Teckla had little choice but to allow the push to create more ground between her and Jonyna, needing to instead focus on maintaining her balance. This also prevented Teckla from turning to face her opponent until the push halted. As boots ground against the floor Teckla’s enhanced senses heard Jonyna produce another blade. <<How many weapons does one Jedi need?>> Teckla asked through the Force, accompanied by a laugh that was quickly cut off by the sonic attack.

Teckla cursed herself for assuming that the blade meant a physical attack was coming and that she had time to turn. A moment of confusion paused her response, but the Grandmaster did manage to turn just in time to catch the full brunt of the lightning attack in the chest. Her armor was the best that the Provision Division of the Crusaders could manufacture, but there still was only so much that could be absorbed.

The force of the blow sent Teckla’s armored form crashing to the floor. A minute crack had formed in her armor in the center of her chest. A spot that would be easily defended during the rest of the duel, but more than that Teckla’s breath was not coming easily. The Grandmaster was quite physically resilient, especially with aid of the Force. But Teckla was quite certain that she would not be ready for whatever strike came next. She needed a moment. Again she reached out to the Force, creating a strange feeling in Jonyna’s senses. It would not be enough to keep the Cathar at bay for long, but maybe long enough for Teckla to catch her breath and establish a defensive position.

Jasper grinned as he brought his lightsaber up to meet the overhead blow one-handed. His mechanical arm, his present dueling arm, billowed steam from the joints as it adjusted to the great strength of his opponent's attack. The Master's feet shifted back a little as the energy dispersed across his body. Djem So. It was one of the two that Jasper favored, though Makashi was his most adept form. He knew how to use it, but even more importantly how to deconstruct it.

"Then the Force wills this to be," he responded. "I won't hold back."

He reared back his organic arm, taking advantage of the saber lock above his, and let energy flow into his fist to make it as rigid as steel. Training from the Matukai that he so often put to good use, soft to solid would surround his hand in the form of a gentle aura. Then, without warning, he threw the fist forwards towards Drenn's armored gut, aiming to make an impactful first blow.

The repulsor shockwave was only the initial component of Evelina’s attack, the second part of which manifested only a split-second after the first. As the Echani projected a Force Barrier to absorb the incoming shockwave (and before he could turn her mid-air), the assassin’s form lit up in an veritable explosion of ever-shifting lattices and distortions that appeared to shatter the space between dimensions. In effect, a carefully-crafted holographic illusion was suddenly manifested, its qualities constructed in such a way so as to simulate the extraplanar distortions of a hypergem, with the potential to cause anyone witnessing it to go insane, be rendered into a senseless trance, or possibly at the very least, lose their focus.

At the same time, Evelina drew her blaster pistol and laid on the trigger, her fuchsia-hued gaze gleaming with equal parts bloodlust and contempt beneath her helmet’s tinted visor as she did. On cue, a full-auto barrage of six bolts blasted out from its barrel within the span of a second, each aimed to strike the Echani in his upper chest from 16 meters away!

They were Evelina’s answer to any insults, mockings, or jeers the youth might have thought to verbalize.

The normally graceful Jonyna was suddenly sent crashing to the floor, at least for the moment. The Cathar's normally highly attuned sense of balance seemed to be thrown off, and she fell from the sky, landing luckily on her feet, as her tail did it's job in catching her balance enough to keep her upright.

She wouldn't let that happen again.

Nor would she let up her assault.

First came another slash from Liz, firing yet another sonic boom at Teckla, before her tail, once more disappeared into her coat. A moment later, it came back out, revealing a blaster that seemed to suddenly unleash a river of near a hundred bolts in less than a second, and while they sprayed wildly, each of them crackled with the same golden voltage that the blade in her right hand did.

"If you had done your research, you'd know that before I was a jedi, I was a rebel. The Tiger of the Rebellion. I spent years scrounging around looking for anything to hit back against the Empire. Now I have an entire company at my back, as well as the Alliance. No more scrap, no more stolen goods, the best the galaxy can buy. Your war machines no longer loom over me, Imp."

She could feel it, every time she said that. The annoyance of the Imperial building. Jonyna didn't need the imperial to make mistakes. No. She was doing it because it was her own form of justice. Years of living under Imperial rule, now she got the chance to hit back.

Was it petty? Was it beneath her?

Maybe. But she wasn't doing it out of vengeance. She wasn't doing it out of any sense of anger. No, this was targeted. She wanted to bruise their ego and remind them that the jedi were not weak.

This was a concept Ko Vuto Ko Vuto had introduced her to.

This was Dun Möch.

As per usual, his words had slipped past her like mist—lost to the fervor of her intentions. Little girl or not, she was aiming to kill him, and Braze could sense every calculated movement, each slight shift in her stance, like a glimmer on the edge of vision. His mind, already tethered to that peculiar realm between instinct and the madness of obsession, wasn't fazed by the illusion that burst forth around her, dazzling with shifting hues and fractured space. It might have unsettled another, but Braze barely registered it. His mind was locked into a flowing, meditative rhythm, hyper-focused and unfazed, settled in a place where the borders of sanity blurred, and nothing visual external could truly rattle him. The illusion was no more than a ripple on the surface—pretty, but insignificant.

Then, she fired.

Each of the six blaster shots struck his chest, the impacts landing with force that pulsed through his body and caused him to stagger a step, but not falter. His Phoenix Fire Armor absorbed the brunt of the energy, the Songsteel and Phrik plating staying solid under each bolt with a contained heat that the Aerogel padding dissipated almost as quickly as it arrived. The flexible joints and reinforced weave strained under the impacts but held firm, leaving only minor bruises beneath that he would certainly feel in the morning. Smoke curled up in faint wisps where the bolts had left scorch marks.

He didn't drop her under the assault. Instead, Braze secured his blade extinguishing it and extended his focus, his hands curling subtly as he drew on the Force, reaching out with telekinesis toward the blaster in her hand. One by one, he began to exert pressure on her weapon and the other devices she clutched or held to her person, his silent intent conveyed through an implacable will. If she wouldn't surrender her toys willingly, he would make them crumble, piece by piece, under the weight of his power.

"Come to think of it... isn't it past your bedtime?" he murmured, his tone a cold taunt laced with unsettling calm. "Maybe it's time you took a nap... You seem a little cranky. "

With a subtle gesture, Braze's focus honed in, drawing on the currents of the air around her. The atmosphere seemed to tighten, thinning with each breath as he siphoned away her oxygen just enough. His intent wasn't lethal; he was precise, pulling only what was needed to dull her senses, to lead her toward the gentle pull of unconsciousness.

His strike was met with a rather effortless parry from his opponent. Still, Drenn refused to yield, and would continue to pour all of his strength and weight into it, attempting to gain any ground that he could. It felt like trying to break through a wall, and as he heard Jasper’s words, a slight twitch at the edge of his lips revealed a smirk, even as their blades were now locked. He already knew his opponent would not hold back, nor would he have expected anything less from one as skilled as Jasper.

Though a warning whispered to him through the Force, it was already too late, as he could feel the power building in the fist that was positioned before his body, and it be impossible to evade in time. Even with engaging his core muscles and pulling them slightly inward to create a wall, he would still feel a jolt of pain ripple through being, as though he had been hit by a boulder. For several heartbeats it threatened to shatter his focus, forcing himself to grit his teeth.

The force of the impact drove a breath of air from his lungs, along with spit, and his grip tightened on the lightsaber. Had it been just slightly more to the right and closer to his liver, no doubt it would have left him on his knees.

Instinct then kicked in; he drew on the Force once more to steady both his mind and body. With another inhale and a pivot of his hips, Drenn shifted his weight, now drawing back just enough to create some space between them, and finally releasing the pressure from his opponent’s blade. It slid away just as he began to now initiate a counterattack. The Crusader’s footwork was graceful as he then spun low, the yellow blade cutting through the air, aimed for the Jedi’s legs. He purposely avoided the side of the Jedi's mechanical arm.

It was a rather simple maneuver, similar to how their encounter on Mon Cala began, initiating their clash with strikes of their blades, with both sides still warming up.

Zonn already sensed the Jedi's presence the moment he stepped in. Bold of him to think that he would ambush Zonn with a simple attack. Zonn backflipped out of the way drawing his Lightsaber middair. "It seems that my prey is eager to die," Zonn said using the Force gracefully to slow his descent landing on his feet.

"I faced plenty of your kind," Zonn said matter of factly the black blade hummed from the distance. "What are you supposed to be a firefighter? How nice, It's almost amusing to see Jedi actually playing dress up."

He raised his hand pouring his hatred and disdain towards the Jedi. "Itll make killing all the more satisfying," He said unleashing a torrent of Force Lightning from his fingertips and towards the Jedi.

Anthony Gray Sun Anthony Gray Sun

Anthony's lightsaber slammed into the stone floor, as he watched the imperial flip through the air. A black blade. How typical. Men like him always wanted the fancy colors to pomp up their own egos. Anthony remembered a time when his master explained to him the different colors of kyber. The black blade was that of the Darksaber, a relic long gone, but sought after by everyone and their mom. No wonder an Imperial wanted to walk around pretending like he had it.

"You seem pretty quick to kill." He said, as he watched the man raise his hand. Anthony was quick to raise his own hand, creating a sudden barrier to block the incoming lightning, just long enough for him to use his saber like a wand, bringing the tube of water he had once used as a transport to crash down onto the imperial, nearly a Tauntaun's worth of weight coming down in a torrent. "How 'bout you chill?"

Sella took point and started to follow the path that the computer had given her to find the computer core. She did not want to move too fast, as the knights would need to split their focus between following her and keeping the owls behind them at bay. Or at least deflecting as much of the lightning striking out against them from hitting home.

As she continued forward, the pace quickened as computer banks that were no longer of importance to Sella shorted out, and exploded fantastically. Adding to Sella’s haste was the fact that no physical obstacle placed in front of the owls were of any impediment. ”They aren’t real!” Sella exclaimed. Emphasis on “real” because she knew that it was not the correct term, but in this instance even she couldn’t make the scientifically true statement.

”Sorry PA. Unless somewhere in your training you’ve learned something that can help, it makes no difference if they are real or not. Just keep pushing forward,” the knight responded with a grunt at the end of his statement as he was struck by lightning.

Sella didn’t have any training that would help in combating the owl spirits. ”I guess we just keep going…But perhaps we should focus more on speed than defense. Though we’ll need to figure out how to stop these things from destroying terminals before we get to the destination.”

Just then the owls sunk to the level of the human opponents and unleashed a hellish attack of sound. The knights, wearing helmets, were not affected nearly as much as Sella. The one that had done all the talking cried out. ”Just run PA!” Sella did her best to fight through the dizzying effects of the sonic blast and do just as he said. She didn’t know if the knight intended to run with her, or to attempt to make a stand against the owls and give her some time. The latter seemed like it might not be the best choice. If the owls were destroying terminals they were trying to stop Sella from getting the computer core as much as engage in combat. There would be little stopping them from soaring straight through the knight’s attacks and then they would be between Sella and her protectors.

”You run too.” Sella’s words were met with two nods and the knights turned to exert as much effort as possible into pressing forward. Sella stumbled, nearly losing her footing. Before she ended up face first on the metal floor, each of her arms felt a tight grasp around the elbow. The knights had not only steadied her, but now held all her weight. Her feet were mere inches from the ground, but all her weight was in the knights’ hands. They accelerated at a pace that was beyond what Sella could accomplish on her own. No longer needing to focus on one foot in front of the other Sella had another thought come to her… “There’s nothing you can do to stop them. We need to do our best to beat them to the objective or outsmart them.”

The dizzying technique worked. The Cathar Jedi stumbled just enough for Teckla to right herself and prepare for the bout to continue. She was able to reconnect to Mechu Deru and the knights protecting her. It was a disappointment that they were continuing to have difficulties. Not that Teckla expected any less when the spiritual owls were unleashed upon them. Teckla needed to do something drastic. Something to pull more of Jonyna’s focus here. Something that would give the young scientist a chance to succeed in their goal. Teckla sent steadying thoughts to the panicked young woman and then returned the majority of her focus to the battle at hand.

Before any plan to draw more focus to herself could be hatched, Jonyna attacked again. The flaming blade was swung, emitting another sonic assault. Teckla’s helmet protected her ears, but the waves of sound hit her square and caused the damage to her breastplate to increase. It was merely a fissure of a couple inches. Not detectable by anyone but Teckla at this point, but it was a vulnerability that would have to be monitored going forward, if not completely protected.

Next, Teckla sensed more danger coming from Jonyna’s tail? She cursed herself for forgetting about the Cathar’s prehensile tail. Teckla somehow knew this was not going to be the same action that she performed to buy time and prove her prowess with a blaster. Teckla quickly shifted her stance to the Shien opening stance was a high guard position, with the lightsaber hilt held in a two-handed grip above the user's head and the blade angled upward and behind her. As hundreds of blaster bolts came her way, Teckla began the "Barrier of Blades" maneuver of the Shien form. The bolts were far too many for her single blade to intercept them all. Some found their marks scorching the shining veneer of Teckla’s armor. Some were sent back in the direction of Jonyna. Most were deflected harmlessly into the metal walls of the station.

Following the attack the Jedi started to flap her lips again. Well, not literally her lips, but something to the same effect. Teckla had been shown the art of Dun Möch, she was surprised to see a Jedi wield the talent, but that didn’t mean that she would totally allow herself to fall victim. Tendrils of irritation would feed the tenacity of her Form VII strikes, but now Teckla had shifted tactics. She couldn’t play into the Jedi’s games any longer.

Taunts of continued lack of study. As if the expectation of invading rebel space should have been to meet with a member of the New Jedi Order’s Council of Masters. Irrelevant revelations that Jonyna was a rebel before she was a Jedi. <<Yet here you stand a rebel once more. Best of this. Best of that. But still just a puny rebel trying to displace an Empire.>> Teckla didn’t know if turning the taunts back on her opponent would yield any favorable actions, but she felt the need to point out the irony of Jonyna’s statement. As Teckla cleared her thoughts of the taunts, she paced forward cautiously. She waved her hand towards the blaster held by Jonyna’s tail. There was no hope that the feline Jedi would lose complete control of the weapon, but perhaps shifting the aim off target or even just giving Jonyna something to think about would be a win. Calling upon the Force, Teckla suddenly rushed forward. With both hands holding the hilt of her lightsaber she brought a powerful "Falling Avalanche" attack down on Jonyna’s defenses.
